If they can’t fulfil the fixtures behind closed door I would: 1. Hand Liverpool the title 2. Relegate Norwich 3. Give the European spots as is. 4. Promote Leeds 5. Pay the basic prize money to each PL team and instead of giving £2mill odd per place hand the rest of the cash out as compensation to teams who got a rough deal ie: West Brom, Norwich and the others who missed out on promotion or Europe. 6. Finish the cups at the start of next season

Wether something is in the news or not doesn’t change the science. For a clearer idea of what’s going on best read the science not newspapers. A single record in one place wether high or low doesn’t mean much by itself.

Do you really think if two teams tested negative on a Weds/thurs, then self isolated until Saturday and played 90 mins, there would really be a significant risk? Anyway, these are 25 year old millionaires we are talking about, they are not going to spend their month off sat around the house watching Netflix. They will be out in trendy nightclubs or up to their nuts in supermodels - giving them time off will probably result in more spreading than if they had to go to work like everyone else.
-
My nephews played a match this morning they were probably less of a risk of spreading than the girl on the checkout at Tesco’s who probably came within coughing distance of multiple hundreds of people. Everyone is a risk whatever job they do, there are thousands more at risk than a football team who play together for 90 mins a week, especially if they have tested negative and taken sensible precautions.
-
Why would that happen if they were in isolation?
-
What, imagine the fallout if some millionaire footballer has cold like symptoms for a couple of weeks?
-
That’s a worrying read. I’m more than happy for the government to follow the advice of the experts, I just hope the government are not taking a more risky approach just for the sake of the economy. Saving lives is all that matters.
-
Surely it’s not impossible to complete the season behind closed doors given the money sloshing about in the game. Run a skeleton operation with only the essential first team staff, players stay in isolation and are tested before each game. Not exactly high risk.

This. Just been into town to watch parasite and the place is deserted, it’s like a scene from walking dead. The high street, travel companies, anything related to sports, tourism etc are going to struggle. Many of my clients are Premier League clubs and all of a sudden there’s going to be no work for months. The banks are going to have to cut people a lot of slack or the whole system is going to crash.

So you think that anyone with a job that involves contact with other people should stay away from work?
-
How are they any different to the girl on the til at LIDL or a teacher, or anyone who works in an office with other people? We can all spread it, we all have family.
-
No, but a 65 year teacher is with 30+ kids all day, 5 days a week and could die from it. At worst a fit young footballer will get flu like symptoms for a bit.
-
Absolutely. Everyone else is going work as usual, if a 65 teacher is OK to look after a classroom of kids then I'm sure 22 healthy young men can kick a ball around in a field for 90 mins. Don't be such a pussy.
-
No different to any of us who go to work as normal. Wash your hands etc, if you show symptoms take a couple of weeks off and self isolate.
-
Surely it can't be that hard to arrange the games to be played behind closed doors? Not perfect but won't effect public safety and at least gets the fixtures fulfilled.
-
All FL games cancelled
-
It's been summer in Wuhan 20c+
-
I get that but football can stop tomorrow and society will still carry on pretty much as normal. It’s not like your closing schools which actually effects people’s job etc. Even if it just saves a few lives it’s worth doing.
-
It is interesting that the government’s scientific advisors think it’s a good idea that hundreds of thousands of people should travel round the country and cram into stadiums just to watch football.
-
To be fair, she also has just been saying what the experts in their fields have been saying.
-
So it means nothing then. Great post.
-
I guess it depends how bad it gets. The government think it’s fine for 60,000 people to cram into a stadium just to watch a few blokes kick a ball about this Saturday.
-
They will just be behind closed doors. If there is no crowd there is no reason the government would stop a game happening.
-
Will probably end up happening here as well thanks to the Tories cuts to the NHS. We get what we vote for.
-
Is that supposed to mean it’s correct?
