The Saints Fanzine that debuted a year or so ago....
sotonjoe replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
I had a mate who wrote a few things for them and we both joked about how poor their communication was. You wouldn't hear from them for ages and then they'd email you asking if you could knock out a few hundred words on topic x in a few days etc. I guess that's just symptomatic of doing a fanzine as a hobby whilst also trying to complete your education or get a job etc. In the circumstances, it's pretty impressive that they managed to get three (I think that's how many it was) issues printed and released. I remember thinking the editing of my stuff was odd at times ... stuff I thought was pretty good got chopped whilst bits I thought were lame or dull would get used as pull quotes etc. I guess it's all very subjective! -

hahahahahahahahahaha -
Why on earth people would want to run on city streets dodging pedestrians and heavy traffic on the roads is beyond me. From Regents Park I jump into my car and drive to the eastern edge of the New Forest and run there. It's a ten minute drive as long as I don't go at rush hour.

One of the guys who runs it seems to only tweet about finance these days so I guess he's more concerned with the day job. All in all, I felt it was a bit bland and lacked its own character. That said, I had an article printed in there for the issue that went on sale just before the Man Utd cup game recalling some of our previous games against Man Utd, and my article was bloody brilliant I reckon. -
Pleased to see we're getting value for money from that ropey video we put together for season ticket holders, and I'm glad that our wigs and face paints have impressed this chap.

Call me mental, but I don't want to pay £6m for a player with an injury that was potentially serious but apparently is not so bad after all. Not until the injury is sorted anyway, i.e. not during this window.
-
Personally I thought he would have been worth a go later on last Saturday (if he wasn't already injured by then). The game was begging out for somebody to run at Wigan with the ball at times.

if you want really easy why not just use google sites?

Source close to the club has claimed that De Ridder has been told he will only rarely feature this season and he is welcome to move on if he finds himself a club willing to meet Saints' valuation. He is keen to be playing football so it looks possible that he could move, but things have come a bit late in the window for him unfortunately. Continental destination would be the most likely. I always thought he needed more of a chance last season tbh. I wouldn't throw him into the Prem side, but I'd like to perhaps see him out on loan in the Champ which would give us time to see whether he can develop in the right way.

Hearing rumours that Ramirez got off the private jet at Southampton Airport, took one look at the weather and decided to just stay on the plane and head back to Italy.

Just seen the goals after reading all they hype and I have to say I think people are overreacting a bit with regards to Puncheon and Reeves' goals. Reading Twitter, I thought we'd just scored two of the most sensational goals ever! TBF, I think the Reeves one is probably better than Puncheon's. Hats off to Puncheon for giving it a go, but he's in acres of space and the keeper is nowhere etc. It's certainly not the goal scoring opportunity he's going to get in the Prem every week. Reeves' goal was very well taken though; very professional for such a youngster. So, two good goals, but I hope everybody kept their shirts on and didn't start swinging them above their heads etc.

This could be a ploy to make it easier for fans to buy tickets to away games... Sell SRL, watch certain fans throw toys out of prams and refuse to watch Saints ever again, tickets become much easier for everybody else to buy. SIMPLES.
-
By that logic, we should sell Rickie Lambert if Villa offer "more than he is worth". ;-)

Sounds like he's probably guilty of doing exactly what most of us have prob all done once or twice before; no more. Doesn't make it right, but the 'holier than though' brigade probably need to get back to raising money for dying kiddies etc.
-
The biggest cock up here is not the way in which they chose to allocate tickets, but the fact that the systems for purchasing proved incapable of actually working. People buying tickets online beforehand they're not entitled to is not good news for the majority. The bottom line is that the club simply don't care what happens as long as tickets sell.

Anyway, has anyone got any pics of his wife or girlfriend for us to eye-up whist we wait for something to happen?

Yeh, reports of Spurs having other high profile targets make things seem positive at the moment, but as I'm sure we're all aware there's always a chance that the press have got it wrong or that they simply change their mind etc etc. I'm just keen for Saints to push it through if they've got this close without being gazumped by the 'big boys' at the last moment, and am aware that we should be aware that Spurs have just received a big sum of cash which could change their ability to do a deal if they decide to give it another go.
-
Reading between the lines, it sounds as if the agent has been over for a few days in an attempt to broker a deal. He would have been doing his best to get Saints to increase their offer to what Bologna had deemed would be acceptable, and if the 14m euro rumours coming out this morning are true, he may have got Saints close enough. The Italian journos on Twitter this morning are expecting that Saints have managed to increase their bid to the figure quoted above by giving nothing to Penarol in terms of a fee, but leaving them with a 30% sell-on clause. Ramirez is expected in the UK soon for a medical and the deal should be announced comfortably before the deadline. My personal concern now is the £33m burning a hole in Spurs' pocket. If they want Ramirez, their ability to deal the deal has just significantly increased, and Saints should act quickly to capture Ramirez's signature if he remains our key target.

Stranger things have happened than Cortese replacing Adkins with Redknapp.

not bad in northam first half, but dead in the second. Too many teenagers more worried about playing on their phones than supporting the team.

Oh God. Another sponsorship deal designed to give the players discounts they don't need on luxury products.

Yes and no. The article isn't about "best restaurants" though, it's about budget eating. I think there are some good budget options in Southampton and have already mentioned Kara. Southampton's problem if anything is that it has too many places which think they're top restaurants, with the attitude and prices that come with that, but without the quality to back it up. Most of the restaurants on Oxford Street can be lumped into that category. If I want nice, but not pretentious, dining I like to go to Hotel Terravina near Ashurst which is Nina and Gerard Bassett's current place.

Try it and see what you think, but here's my opinion. First off, it claims to be an upmarket Indian which actively tries to distance itself from the typical curry house. This is all well and good but the fact it that the food is poor and the manager a right pretentious and overbearing idiot. I've eaten up market Indian food including Atul Kochhar so I'm not a beer swilling, vindaloo slurping meathead, but I was still subjected to a 10minute introduction to the restaurant, the menu and the owner's personal philosophy when he sat down at my table. He recommended several dishes which all ended up being generally expensive in terms of what the menu with very crude and or unpleasant and or bland flavours. I left thinking it thought it was far too good for its own good but that the food was some of the most disappointing Indian food I've ever had. Good luck trying it though ;-) For reference - my current favourite Indian in Southampton is currently Sanjha on Shirley High Street which has just opened a small restaurant. Their food is tasty, seems traditional and not at all pretentious. The owner however, does know how to run a restaurant and is the chap who originally started Poppadom Express before selling it to someone else if I remember correctly I'm sure someone will be along to tell you they love Indian Melody in a moment.
