  1. will it be on terrestrial tv?
  2. indeed, which is why they should just stick with using the pot of money in the way it was originally intended.
  3. Those are the salient points. The widening participation budget was set up to offer funding for thos who were intelligent enough to go to uni but couldn't afford it; that's the plan that helps ' anybody get to uni' and it already exists. But to cream off some of the cash just for kids of fallen servicemen seems at odds with the original idea, which was surely all about equal opportunities for everyone. I guess I believe that access to the funding should be decided upon academic merit and nothing else. I thoroughly agree with you about Tory bandwagon jumping and I think it's a little crass to be honest. It's almost as if the policy thinkers have been sat there watching the funeral parades of servicemen and wondering how to get the votes of all the people lining the streets. Nothing like cashing in on grief right?
  4. Latest Tory policy plan is to give free university places plus living cost grants of £5k per year to the children of servicemen who have died in active duty since 1990. link Sheer madness or a stroke of genius? Personally, seeing as the money will be taken from the money already set aside for widening participation (i.e. the fund that will allow brainy but poor kids have a chance at going to uni), I think it's a bad idea. I'd hate see someone who would have previously secured funding under the widening participation budget miss out to another candidate, just because the other candidate's Dad died in Afghanistan. On the other hand, you could argue that it's only going to cost a million or so, so it shouldn't make a huge impact. In that case, I think it a slightly crude attempt by the Tories to try and cash in on the wave of sympathy felt for the armed forces and gain extra votes. It could cost them relatively little, but could be a good bit of publicity for them.

  20. No, is the easy answer. Thereare crummy work arounds, but nothing to preserve the high quality of the original recordings. The firmware won't allow it. You'd have to connect a dvd recorder and record it to that, before transferring the recording to your pc.
  21. ... then they told you to tidy your room more often and that you should do more work for charity right?
  22. Not completely true. The early US phones which were used for 'hands on' features on the internet didn't have the feature enabled, despite the hardware being capable of it. There are now videos of the phone circulating the internet which show multi-touch being used whilst browsing the internet on this phone. People have specualted that these may be EU versions, with one particular video saying that it has been made in Germany. In the past, US versions of handsets (e.g. the Motorola Droid) have had multi-touch switched off, wherease the UK handset has then had the feature enabled. The rumuour is that there's some issue with US patents. UK customers who have just received their phones after ordering direct from Google have reported that there's no multi-touch by default, but I think some are saying you can use a different browser to enable it (seems a little odd to me). Expectations are that the 'official' UK version, due to appear in the Spring and available with a Vodafone service plan, should have multi-touch enabled, although there is no confirmation as yet.
  23. If the rumours are to be believed and Norwich are eying up Lambert, what would you say he has achieved to warrant Prem attention then? I thought he was a relatively new appointment (been with them this season only?) and has done little except establish them as promotion contenders. Bearing in mind they are one of the league's big boys, surely this isn't that special?
  24. With Burnley reportedly looking at Norwich's Lambert as a replacement for Coyle, how long do you think it could be before bigger clubs may come knocking for Pardew? When that time comes, how much faith do you have in Pardew bucking the trend and sticking with Saints, as opposed to seizing the opportunity to jump back in to a Premiership management position? FWIW, I think that if we can make it to the Championship sharpish, we may be able to hold onto him for a little longer with the lure of Prem football only potentially being 'a season away'. I'd be interested to see what would happen if we were still in League One next year but riding high, and an offer came in from a lower Premiership team for him. In an ideal world, perhaps the lure of our financial security and support may help him want to stay, but who knows how strong the lure of a short cut into Premiership mangement could be?
  25. The six were there to have a good look probably.
