Cheers Glen for yet another season of quality post match reporting, understandably not as humorous as previous seasons, but you can only comment on the turgid dross that has, more often than not, been delivered into your eyes. Thanks

According to all the look at us horse poo that use to spew out of Southampton FC, the club allegedly knew who the next 5 managers were before the present one had his name plate screwed to his office door. So whatever news comes out of your thread will probably be out of date already.

Very much doubt there was a job at the FA, especially with that grinning fool Trevor Brooking still in situ, and him being the reason Les Reed was sacked by the FA in 2004, so Brooking could be shuffled into the position by the faceless Blazers as FA Director of Football Development. A role that Les was totally nailed on, and far better qualified, to get.

It’s going to be a very long summer.......

Firstly Well done Mark Eddie and Mark for keeping the team up, also well done for pulling a bunch of talented lads into playing unit when for much of the past 2 seasons many of them have looked like complete strangers to each other at times. So the big decision is do we keep him on, one camp is of the view “nah there is better out there, he hasn’t done anything” yet can’t name anyone aside from the usual pie in the sky names. The other camp is “yeah why not” - given what he has achieved in recent weeks given the tools (and condition they were in) he had to work with. Given the last 2 appointments, that is the pedigree of Manager we are going to appoint from overseas, Pochettino was, as it turned out, was a good find. But as they say lightening never strikes twice. I think quite simply many managers do or don’t fit the club they are managing, just a weird dynamic. Pardew didn’t fit us. Adkins fitted like a glove - but elsewhere hasn’t seemingly achieved the level he did with us. Pochettino fitted with us and has fitted with Spurs. Koeman fitted with us - went to Everton, which should have been his next level and failed ultimately (he only got the Dutch gig because both him and the KNVB buried the hatchet). Puel (who) fitted in France but didn’t fit us. Pellegrino (again who) we know didn’t fit us either. What’s to say Hughes isn’t the next right fit for us, and given the tools we have beyond the playing staff actually take us back to where we were 2 seasons ago.

I’ve been going down the Saints since 1978, I have watched some piles of steaming you know what in that time, not once in that time have I ever considered making an early get away from a game to “beat the rush”, until this season. I hasten to add that despite the turd I have witnessed this season I have stuck it out.

Ok.......maybe not

Spawny bloody offside goal..........bloody useless officials. if these clowns lived in South America they would fear for their bloody lives

Nope I think the 120 containers of used Fivers would be about right, coming from Liverpool there are bound to be a few dodgy ones in there, probably a few containers bulked up with bricks and hub caps too

Be interesting to see what becomes of Spurs over the next couple of seasons. Arsene Wenger was asked in his last pre match press conference what he felt was his greatest achievement, and felt it was when Arsenal moved into the Emirates and he still managed to keep Arsenal qualifying for the champions league and up the top of the Premier League, despite the financial restrictions placed on his spending power due to the expense of building a new stadium. Spurs apparently already run a tight ship where players wages are concerned, so having spent a heap on the new WHL, will their financial wings be clipped for a couple of seasons too!

Great Escapes - past and present ... is this the best ?
John Boy Saint replied to manina-pub's topic in The Saints
Think it’s still a bit like that today, except everyone has a mobile device all automatically clamouring for a mere hint of 4G and one lucky soul wins the lottery and gets just enough for a score update to be delivered to his phone, and casually mutters it to his mate sat alongside him loud enough for folks to hear and away the rumour goes like the opening credits to Mission Impossible. That said Mrs JBS has a chap sat next to her, who turns up plugs in his earphones and listens to the Solent commentary whilst watching. Back on topic - Should we succeed this couldn’t be classsed as great escape, just getting out of a situation we should never have found ourselves in. It’s more of a great escape for the dithering board. The Great Escapes whilst confined at The Dell were achieved with the club operating at the extreme limits of its budget. -
Moss has Palace v The Baggies - Swansea v Stoke is Anthony Taylor.
-
What joy........the pair of them sponsored by Clinton’s where we are concerned! If only Sparky hadn’t made the crack about Moss probably needing to get his breath back, we could have had that nice Mr Tierney or our 12th man at Burnley Super Bobby Madley..........nope we get Mr Perma Tan Walk about the pitch and Mr Look at me in his ear. Who was saying a 10 goal swing was hogwash!!!
-
Man U v West Ham was a bit turgid, thankfully I had something else to do to keep me amused. Came back in just as it was all kicking off with Noble going at Pogba full on, hands on his face making out to gouge right in full view of Jon Moss all he got was a yellow, made Stephens shove on Glass Jack for a red look more than very harsh.

Alex for player and Maya’s goal for me (defenders ain’t supposed to score goals like that).
-
What if Swansea make up 9-point goal difference?
John Boy Saint replied to Singapore Saint's topic in The Saints
You would hope that no players personal pride wants to be relegated as the rock bottom of the table team. Alongside that if Jack Butland is in goal, seeing as he is in competition with Jordan Pickford for a starting England spot, he won’t be wanting to queer his pitch by shipping a shed load of goals in the final game of the season. -
Oops that wasn5 in the script!!

They shafted us before we even left home. Think you might find that was more of a case of taking the opportunity to post his TripAdvisor review live in person to the nations media, given their part in the underhand shenanigans. They already have bad press over it may as well heap a bit more on them. By contrast his review of The Vale was most complimentary.

You missed the point I was making Shurlock, I wasn’t questioning the decision, I was standing up and applauding it (just read Shroppies reply). After the safety first risk assessment managed football we have endured over the past two seasons, with the game obviously in the balance at 0-0 even though we were the better team, what an absolute breath of fresh air to make such a (as it turns out) match winning decision (even the sky commentators were caught off guard by it) , when under Puel and MP McQueen would have been drafted in and the shuffle you suggest possibly made to hang onto the draw. Actually I very much doubt any of the so called top team managers playing away, at 0-0, would have replaced an injured defender with a striker (especially with what is at stake).
-
Seeing him at Fulham in the cup, he looked absolutely hacked off, Saturday night when we scored he looked happier, the fact that he was trusted in last nights big roll of the dice shows how much he has been rehabilitated (for want of a better term) by Sparky and his team. Seemed a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable in the dressing room post match at his team mates bouncing round him singing "oh Gabbiadini" .
-
Said to Mrs JBS from my safe haven behind the sofa, that Mr Oliver seems to have a handle on the gravitas of the game and is refereeing it in a manner that is reflective of that, in fact you hardly noticed he was there.
-
My overriding thought from last night is having a manager who when replacing an injured defender, was metaphorically sat at the poker table and having the minerals to push all his chips into the centre of the table. That was a ballsy play, sticking a striker on who has splinters in his backside, that must have caused a moment of confusion for Swansea “hang on!? their defender is going off injured they are replacing him with a 3rd striker but they still have a defence”. Just seemed to stick an already under pressure Swansea into a position where they couldn't decide whether to stick or twist. We haven’t seen that kind of management for quite a while.............that’s confidence in the cards in your hand you have to play! Just shows what Mark, Eddie, and Mark have achieved in an unforgivably short space of time.
-
Hope he bought a lottery ticket on the same day!

Last time we went there was a place next junction down on the M4 that ran a shuttle bus to the ground, then when the game was over the return shuttle was parked in the away coaches compound and left with the away coaches accompanied by the Old Bill clearing the route to the motorway passing everyone who parked close to the ground.
-
See we have Michael Oliver on the whistle for this one, so goodness know what he will see. Oh and joy of joys running one of the lines with the flag in his hand is Mr Burt the blind numptie who flagged of Gabbis perfectly good goal in the EFL final. Just bloody win it lads
