4th September is the next England U-21 match (away to Macedonia)

Success costs... but it doesn't have too. Get a good manager and like Swansea, Peterborough, S****horpe and Doncaster spending money isn't the only option.
-
So the player can then sod off after a season to a bigger team or get's injured.

Bookies odds on next Southampton manager
Doctoroncall replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Their Chairman has put quite a bit of money into the club, not only on the playing staff but the infrastructure and I can see them doing well in the CCC. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/mar/27/peterborough-united-mclean-mackail-smith -
...but still getting caught out by the linesman!
-
Spot on, I don't think he has the aptitude or application to the talent he shown in fits and starts.
-
I'm sure they already had an idea of what qualities they are looking for in a manager (or head coach and DoF) so the time consuming aspect is finding out who is availalbe, who is currently employment that is suitable and talking to them. It wouldn't surprise me if we do go for someone not on the list, perhaps someone Stuart Baxter or Roger Spry (not necessarily them), but someone with a wide range of coaching experience, dealings with top players but most importantly are tactically sound and understand the game.

Considering the statements from ML and the current management team: "..We will assemble a strong management team at every level." "Our decision is part of a wider strategic plan being implemented to improve all aspects of the club's operations, both on and off the field. "In keeping with this plan we can confirm that the search for a new manager has already begun. "Our search will be conducted in a systematic and professional manner. We will find the right candidate, who will fulfil the criteria necessary to move the club forward." It doesn't match with an appointment of Tony Adams.

I remembered David James had an injury and wrote about: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/jun/14/david-james-football-injuries Also some interesting comments... Robmoss, AP36 and Brooking10

It's about time they learned... we may as well sack them and rely on BUPA.
-
This is were the medical staff and physios earn their money by making sure his recovery is complete and rehabilitation is correct!
-
If they really need to be told about how unsuitable Tony Adams then we are in trouble!
-
I was thinking that STs will be around the 10-12k mark but the pairing STs will push that up quite a bit. I would hope it can get to 20k, but I think I'm being a bit optimistic, unless there is a decent manager and good form!
-
That's spot on, it confirms that suitability is not the same as eligibilty which is often overlooked in a job.
-
What I wouldn't want to see if we go down the route of a DoF is the whole Martin Jol and Damien Comolli affair where the coach was not allowed to put forward selected players he wanted to buy. On the pitch it takes players to work as a team to win, it's the same off the pitch too!
-
KK as DoF? I thought he didn't like the role when he was at Newcastle or was that the person?
-
To be honest I don't know why he was speechless considering his poor record at clubs and his bad reputation at Feyenoord as Technical Director. Wotte's teams he has managed (18 teams in dutch divisions): Info listed as Year, Team, Played, Won, Drawn, Lost, (place) 1983–1988 VV Rijswijk....... Amateur club - no records found. 1992........ ADO Den Haag. 34 6 10 18 (16th, relegated), 34 15 8 11 (8th second division) not sure when started or left in '92. 1994–1996 FC Lisse.......... Amateur club - no records found only places: 2nd and 2nd 1996–1998 ADO Den Haag. 34 16 6 12 (7th second division), 34 17 7 10 (5th second div) 1998–1999 FC Utrecht...... 34 10 8 16 (12th) 1999–2000 FC Den Bosch.. 34 4 11 19 (18th relegated) 2000–2002 Netherlands U-21 2002–2004 Willem II Tilburg 34 11 9 14 (11th) 34 13 10 11 (7th) 2006........ Ismaily SC....... 26 12 3 11 (4th - but left during season) 2006–2007 RKC Waalwijk... 34 6 9 19 (relegated) 2007–2008 Al Ahli............ 22 10 7 5 (3rd of 10) 2009 Southampton.......... 18 4 7 7 relegated

Bit of a lottery that race, why Emirates Roadshow? Union Island (EW) Otherwise Bombina in the 20.15 Doncaster and Jimwil in the 16.40 Warwick

I just couldn't write it! I think people are being swayed by the emotional side of this situation. Personally I don't think he's up to it and I prefer to look elsewhere for a suitable candidate rather than an eligible one. It's not the case of anyone as long as it's not Wotte. Wotte or no Wotte, I'll be happy to carrying on supporting the club now knowing the future of the club is secure.

Surman willing to go to Wolves so the staff could be paid.
-
I think you can interpret it as 'No' - to go asap, short term - up to the end of this season and long term - beyond this season for a Saints manager.
-
I don't think it's a question of division and/or stability only a timing issue with no board to lay the foundations of ML's vision for the club and bring in the most suitable person. I'm not impressed with Wotte's career at the many clubs he's been at either as coach, technical director or his time here but it's a new season and I hope he can at least learn from his first season at Saints and get the team to put in a decent performance.
