  1. Excellent appointment, as I hope we'll all find out over the next 3 years. Welcome Nigel.
  2. Agreed. We're so close to the deadline NA himself has set that when the announcement comes is irrelevant. As long as the deal has been done and he's happy to take over, that's all that matters. Going to be interesting to see which training ground he's at tomorrow morning, if there is no news though!
  3. Er... how about O'Neill?
  4. Anyone know what reaction he got at Scunny today? Was it more 'please don't go' than 'f**k off now' or vice versa?!
  5. I know he's only the stand in (well I presume he is!) but 3 straight defeats, 6 goals against and none scored is pretty sh*t. Anyone know if any of our previous managers made a bigger hash of being appointed?
  6. And quite rightly so! This is primarily his team and they are either massively underperforming or simply not good enough. Can't believe we need another overhaul of the playing squad so it is surely the former.
  7. P*ssed off but not surprised. How bad is that? Sort it out NOW Cortese before you can write this season off too.
  8. Interesting comment after one of the most recent Adkins articles on the This Is Scvnthorpe website. How would referring the matter to the FA resolve the compo issue so quickly? It took the tribunal most of the season to sort out Colchester's compo from Norwich for Paul Lambert!
  9. We know the current caretaker manager is going for three out of three tomorrow...
  10. Adkins is now in an impossible position IMO. If he stays at Scunny, there's always going to be the suspicion now that his hearts not really in it and he's only biding his time until the next opportunity arises. If he comes here, he's got a real battle on his hands to get the fans onside because of a perceived lack of urgency in taking up the reins. Whatever he does, he's going to need to keep the results coming to keep the fans happy. Damned if he does; damned if he doesn't springs to mind.
  11. Why won't you be on the bench? Have you got an injury?
  12. Amended for accuracy...
  13. It's my belief that we'll be in the brown stuff, if we appoint Brown.
  14. Indeed. Plymouth at SMS. We lost. Might as well let Wilkins chalk up another defeat and then let Adkins take over on Monday IMO...
  15. Wasn't Adkins due to make a statement? Has this been released yet? Wasn't there also a rumour that he's been placed on gardening leave, as a result of this episode?
  16. I hope we haven't used Nigel Adkins as we did Elliott Ward, to force someone else's hand. Say MON?
  17. Cheers Nicola.
  18. Match that to comparative spend by each manager's team, in their respective league, then Adkins stats become a little more impressive...
  19. Blimey! Adkins leaving has relegated Scunny already. He must be good!
  20. Think this could turn out to be an inspired appointment. An ambitious manager who is supposedly an excellent man manager whose teams play entertaining, flowing football. Best of luck NA! Also, as a trained physio, he might also spot that Lambert is obviously carrying an injury and will hopefully bring in someone on loan to allow him to recover...!
  21. Welcome and the very best of luck Nigel! I'm sure we all hope that you're very, very successful at St Mary's. May I be one of the first to say "Nigel Adkins' red & white army!"
  22. Transcript of the interview: NC: Mr Adkins? NA: Yes. NC: Can I get someone to get you a drink? Tea? NA: Yes. NC: Sugar with that? NA: Yes. NC: To business then. Can you see yourself us taking us forward? NA: Yes. NC: Automatic promotion this year? NA: Yes. NC: Then promotion to the Prem following year? NA: Yes. NC: Can you work with Les Reed? NA: Yes. NC: Will you be keeping Dean Wilkins and the remaining staff? NA: Yes. NC: Bringing anyone from Scunny with you? NA: Yes. NC: Pressman? NA: Yes. NC: Will you need to strengthen the squad? NA: Yes. NC: A few loans and £5m to spend in January do? NA: Yes. NC: Fancy the job then? NA: Yes. NC: Good, you're hired. By the way - got yourself any cover for your mortgage in case you suddenly lose your job? NA: YES!
  23. I think it's just about identifying the right man, for the right job, at the right time, at the right team. Simple as. Think Allardyce at Bolton & Newcastle. Think Hoddle at Saints & Spurs. Think Hodgson at Fulham & Blackburn. All examples where decent managers have had comparative success at one club where they spectacularly failed at another. I think the key thing is that those who are doing the hiring bring in the right manager for our situation. If, following the interviews, they feel an up and coming manager, who's done well at his current club and is right for us then they need to bring him in. If we need a big name to come in, have the players in awe of him and shake the club up that way, then so be it. Getting the right man should totally depend on how Cortese, Reed, whoever perceives our current situation. If it is to be Adkins, then once the appointment is made, we should dismiss those it could've been and give the new fella our 100% backing.
  24. Not necessarily. Thank you for the information, Mrs Adkins.
  25. Here's a thought - what if Adkins has said/does say no? Where does that leave us then, assuming the bookies odds are correct?
