Good thing we were superb in the first half. Cheer up fs

Get in. Another 3 points, another clean sheet. People may say the second half was dire, but Villa were always going to throw the kitchen sink at us. McCarthy was barely troubled by a poor Villa side. We really should have been out of sight first half, but thats been our season really. Positives - KWP was like a man possessed for the first half. Adam Armstong, great goal and made some great runs. Adams, Bednarek and Salisu all solid performances. Romeu doing what he does best. Ralph reacting to the Villa barage and going to 3 at the back and doing it early too. Commentator picked up that its one of his weaknesses which hes now addressing. Negatives - Bit of a dip from Tino, but hey hes 18 and hes been unreal this season. Salisu nearly giving us a heart attack with no look back passes. McCarthy the same with some suspect kicking. JWPs corner delivery has been poor for a while - too many easy clearances at the front post or collected by Martinez. Biggest negative - Andy Madley. Stinker

You're dead right. Their last 3 seasons in the PL they conceded 65, 70 and 61 respectively. Still didnt stop them trying to play out from the back so will be interesting to see if he sticks with that approach at Newcastle

Not sure you can go huge in January anymore. The market is very flat compared with the summer window. Given the limited time to find replacements, many clubs are reluctant to sell and the prices often reflect that. They may be able to bring in a few players, but of what quality and can they hit the ground running? For Newcastles sake they may need to.

Watching this Norwich/Leeds game and both are very poor. Obviously Leeds are missing a few starters and will improve, but we really need to be beating Norwich in two weeks. Hopefully we can go into it off the back of another good result against Villa

100% proven me wrong. I had completely written him off with his pre season performances (on top of his previous showing here). Wouldnt have him in my starting 11 when everybodys fit, but has done very well so far this season and is now a good squad option. We need players like him to start chipping in with goals though. Got plenty at Celtic so certainly knows where the net is

I refuse to believe that Lyanco was a MOTM candidate. Not after all the experts on here told us that he was a wasted signing after only his first game. Guess its not the first time they've been spectacularly wrong. Hopefully he can push on now and put pressure on Bednarek/Stephens. Forster was very good, great save in the shootout as well. Its clear we've decided on McCarthy long term, god knows why though. Everybody but the McCarthy fanboys can see that he does the GK basics better. Our squad depth is so much better this season. Plenty of food for thought for Ralph as there were good performances all over the pitch. Also fair play to the boys stepping up for pens. Surprised Lyanco didnt as he scored a winning one for Brazil u23s in the Toulon final.

How do you he didnt put his hand up and demand to take one? Its not under 10s where he was ordered to take one fs

Forster KWP Lyanco Salisu Perraud Tella JWP S Arm Djenepo A Arm Adams 1-1 draw and then another Saints win on pens 👊🏻

Dont agree. Cornet caught McCarthy by surprise with the early strike on the turn but it was nowhere near the corner. Better positioning and anticipation and its a comfortable save
-
We drew against West Ham at home last season too
-
Done a great job when he had little financial resource. But was heavily backed in his last few seasons and likely played a big role in the signings of Ibe, Solanke, Brooks, Mepham etc who were all failures. Maybe hes happy to take on a job where he'll have bugger all to spend. Cant see it myself and I think Ralphs here for the forseeable
-
Not sure what this expected points is all about but we're 5 points better off when compared with the same fixtures last season which is good enough for me
-
Leeds may not have posed much of a threat, but defensively we seem to have improved on last season. If we can add somewhere close to the goals we had last season we'll be just fine
-
Not quite a 'must win' but fail to do so and Burnley next week certainly does become a must win. Hopefully we can get 6 points from the 2 games and really get the season off and running. Where will the goals come from though? Front players need to start delivering now
-
Wow thats very good. Him and Armstrong vs Leeds please
-
Carillo was the last one I think. Each one since has been loans

Was a shocking decision. Not the first time we've on the end of a terrible refs decision against the swiss. Lewis did take a while to take the throw in, but the first instinct of the ref is to warn him, not book him. Ruined the game
-
Niemi Clyne Van Dijk Svensson Shaw Schneiderlin Mane Le Tissier Bale Lambert Ings Was too young to see enough of Shearer in a saints shirt to warrant his inclusion. Honourable mentions also for Claus, Fonte, Alderweireld, A Svensson, Bridge, Wanyama and Lallana

As funny as that story is, 95% of fans wouldnt care who took over their club as long as they pumped money in for transfers. Remember the Glazers Out movement last season, storming Old Trafford and the likes of Gonzo Neville demanding change.....its all went very quiet since they splurged a heap of money on Sancho, Verane, Ronaldo etc. Funny how the fans said it was about the Super League and the debt (which has went up with these transfers) which the Glazers were accruing....nothing to do with falling behind your rivals City and Liverpool 🤥

Is the Premier League too rich for us?

Sure they were talking about signing Mbappe and the likes before it fell through before. Hope it all ends in tears for them. Not having other club fans welcoming the news and saying how the newcastle fans deserve good news. You want your league rivals to struggle -

Will now leave just us and Burnley in that group of clubs without a pot to piss in -
Whens the next fans forum so Semmens can be asked about any possible takeover? Bit depressing that we've heard absolutely nothing and those reporting on the club (Blackmore etc) have stopped enquiring.
-
Are you really counting Vestergaard or Bertrand as one of our best two players. Danny yes, but them two no f***in chance. The fact we're cursing Stephens injury says it all about CB
-
Agree. Outside of Ings, Armstrong has been our next best attacking threat the past two seasons. Great to have him back
