Sheff Utd 1-2 Saints - Match Thread
Holmes_and_Watson replied to TheAlehouseBrawlers's topic in The Saints
We made heavy weather in getting over the line, but the 3vpoints should be a confidence booster. AA worked hard second half, getting a couple of headers. But it turned around Stewart, with 2 excellent center forward finishes. He was also leading the line in getting others up to support him. We took off some creativity. There wasn't lots on show generally, but it made Stewart isolated. Utd changed their shape and we brought on Archer who barely got a touch. The result was a last 15 minutes of Utd having the possession. Edwards gave away a corner, and it was in the net although chalked off for a foul on McCarthy. We then gave away a dangerous free kick. Still was trying to keep in compact, but we surrendered any forward outlet in that 15 minutes. Hopefully, he'll learn from that. Utd are better than their position. So good tests for Wood. Stewart, Jander who all stood out. McCarthy looks a more imposing figure in goal too. While others are going to get minutes, we could be seeing this side begin to settle. -

Jander gave us a couple of seconds of skill in 45 minutes. Other than that, we continue to be pretty flat, and reluctant to do anything at pace. Stewart at least giving a target to aim for towards the end, although not much power on the headers. It was probably a penalty, although it's not as though he was in control and half fell over the 'keeper. Poor penalty though, keeping us behind. Utd happy enough to give us possession, as most of the time we don't do much with it. They did have an unmarked player who had to head back across goal, and McCarthy nearly got caught out in another attack. So, we could always self destruct some more. -

Got what they needed to get over the line on a very tight day. Great for the Europeans. I'd like to think our fans will have some more class across the board in the next one.

It's certainly never too late to enjoy a new hobby that keeps you fit. Just focus on your own improvements, learn from the best around you and don't get discouraged. It takes ages to get the timing right to get past the windmill blades, and there's loads of variation in maintenance of courses. I was fortunate to grow up near a lot of miniature golf courses along a coast, so have had lots of practice. Just keep at it.

In breaking news, I heard that a manager of one Championship club, thinks their players could be doing a bit better.

Matching that SR have no credit in the bank for the football players they have bought to give us the performances for which they have no credit. 🙂

"No, I don't think it achieves anything either, Mr Gretzky. But if you'd just step up to the altar, we'll get on with the GOAT sacrifice for Convict Colony. Yes, the convict part of the name, is making more sense now, Mr Gretzky." -

The Starmer Years - Can The New Broom Sweep Clean?

Polls aren't something I put a lot of faith in. Observationally, to be worse than Truss, when they were presumably polling just as frequently, is quite the achievement. That lettuce is looking more and more like the best PM we never had. -
Just 2 points off 3rd. Trust the process, to deliver a side more capable of competing on a pittance in Europe (Brugge aside).

Well done Russ. Let down by that sending off during the week, but not giving up for the win today. Lots to build and improve on. Only 7 points behind Celtic now, after they dropped two points yesterday. And now up to 8th, only a point behind those on the other side of the stupid table split.

SR will look to bring in players from L1 to build a promotion team for getting back to the Championship in 27/28.

Can't wait to show my kids,Forbes, Phillipson & Masters this thread tomorrow.

My understanding is that, in 1620, we rounded up all the people who shouted "thou art going to get it. Verily thou art...woooooah" and deported them. Apparently their manners have deteriorated since. Hopefully, we'll get to see the tangerine toddler stare at an empty space in the oval office, where his replica Ryder Cup would have been.

Winning...points...meh. All the real excitement is in the shifting player values against the market, in SR's database trading model.

When he's given a quick attack to get space to run onto it, go central and shoot, that's what he's capable of. We prefer to play as though we are walking through treacle, allowing teams to reset and shutting off that space. I'm pleased for him. Just as we brought in some wide players, I was thinking it could be a boost for all of our forwards, BBD included. In about his last match for us, he had a couple of flashes. But his confidence in our set up was shot, and it was weighing on him.

I think that if you believe that planetary alignments shape our lives, you must be talking out of Uranus. (That was easy. Adds 5 points to already massive points haul)

A more cohesive performance. But we will continue to lack quality in key areas, which will hamstring us in every game. Nice to see AA get a good finish, now that yet another manager has gone through the process of realising he's a starter. We're a decent Championship team, without a cutting edge up front, enough creativity or a decent keeper.

If they want a losng manager who is welded to a system, Martin must fancy his chances of aligning with Wilcox.

It's his Clark Kent disguise, so that people don't mistake him for Super Manager, as he shops on Buchanan Street. Wearing the disguise in a Super Manager interview just showing that he loves the attention.

Sadly, apprehension rates plummet due to police forces scoffing abandoned pizzas, and being unable to chase.
