You’re clearly missing my point. I’m certainly not looking for “congratulations about, er Highfield” it’s not the type of area I’ve ever lived in this city, but Southampton is a long way from a shithole. Needs improving, can do better, but after travelling to just about every similar city in 6 decades of following this club and with work there’s far worse.
-
There's been some bollocks written about Southampton on here, if you seriously believe it's a bigger shithole than some of the other places mentioned then you're kidding yourselves. This is an industrial city that has many working class areas but whatever "shithole" district you're in, walk a few streets, turn a corner and you're suddenly in leafy suburbia with big houses. Most visitors would scratch their heads at those rants as they enter the city from the M3 at Chilworth, down Basset Avenue (MIllionaire's Row) and along The Avenue alongside the Common (posh Upper Shirley on one side, Highfield on the other) to the city centre (and it's numerous parks). My roots are lower Shirley/Millbrook, working class areas, like Shirley Warren, Lordshill, Thornhill and other council estates built to house all the families (many dock workers) bombed out of central Southampton. LIke every city it has its dodgier areas but to call Southampton a "shithole" is ridiculous. Some people need to get out more.

This thread was for the league game.

but...(didn't think I needed to repeat myself)....I like to see the men’s and women’s game kept separate Simply this. Some people just try too hard to be offended.
-
I can’t deny, I like to see the men’s and women’s game kept separate - another thing I particularly can’t get with is women commentating on the men’s game. I’m happy to see the women’s game improving, had my daughter or granddaughter wanted to be footballers I’d support them fully, but...

As well as an all female team of on-field officials for this match, there's also a female on VAR. Should be interesting.

Best chance for Prowsey to get some game time...if it goes ahead. Fire inside the stadium https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12429189/andorra-vs-england-fire-breaks-out-at-national-stadium-day-before-european-qualifier Wonder if it's a wonky hairdryer or iron in the official's dressing room that caused it

Chelsea 1-1 (p.4-3) Saints - Match Thread
alehouseboys replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Yeah you’re right but I’m sure I’ve seen all the Shed given over to aways in the League Cup before. Doubt we’d have taken 7,000 anyway as Chelsea don’t allow visiting clubs to put tickets on General Sale which we would probably have needed to do with that allocation. SFC wouldn’t have taken a chance of not selling them all and taking a hit financially. -

These tickets go on sale to home fans today, their ST holders can purchase their own seats which kind of suggests we've only taken the usual away allocation rather than the whole of the Shed End. Seen suggestions elsewhere that tickets will be £25. -
They may not be quite so attack shy at home. Against Southampton.
-
Bit of history repeating itself...even a draw after being 2-down did nothing to save Adkins...
-
A problem that may come about for those that prefer to stand in stadiums that don’t have rail-seating could be that the authorities clamp down on standing in normal seated areas. I can see us being left behind due to “lack of funds”. And agree, 15 year olds will be chucking beer around ‘like on the tele’ if they relax that rule.
-
Now sold out.
-
You need to have previous buying history, if you're not on the data base you'll not get a ticket. And Chelsea don't allow visiting clubs to put away tickets on General Sale.

Sheff Utd 2-2 (p.2-4) Saints - Match Thread
alehouseboys replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
I assume he's comparing it to the 3 games we have over the same period. Villa have just got a draw there (lost on pens), it's doable*. -
Hopefully, but the best we can hope for is next summer. Introducing the trial halfway through a season is little use to most clubs. Probably the only chance for us is a buyout with new money coming into the club to pay for it.

Sheff Utd 2-2 (p.2-4) Saints - Match Thread

I wouldn't think there'd be a shortage of empty seats to move into for a better view - I don't think they've opened there 'Kop' tonight so not gripping the home fans -
It never really seemed to bother him going up and down the steps to Air Force One'...other than his 'hair' blowing around uncontrollably!
-
And while the ref was off checking the monitor, Walker who shouldn't have been on the pitch at that point, was in Ward Prowse's face while he was waiting to take the pen. Right decision to over-rule the sending off (for the clear penalty) but should have walked for just being a cunt.
-
For once at least, we’ve taken the full allocation for Chelsea, just over 3,000 https://www.southamptonfc.com/matches/2021-22/chelsea-vs-saints-2021-10-02/ticket-info

It's a relegation 6-pointer, bottom v second bottom, tickets will be like gold dust.....................

Free entry to St Mary's for the B Team this Sunday...if anyone fancies it. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/19584341.southampton-b-host-burnley-st-marys-free-tickets/

"We will be tired" - of course you will. What he is saying is "don't come and stick everyone behind the ball, come and attack us" - not that it really matters what way you play it, but trying to keep the goals against is probably priority.
-
Think the tide turned in his favour from the quarter final at Bradford when he banged in that free kick, around 2:40 in the vid Saints fans went nuts while the gnarly home fans were giving it the (very popular at the time) "You're gonna get your fuckin' heads kicked in......" Not a game for the faint-hearted oop north that day.

What was the official attendance on Saturday?
alehouseboys replied to once_bitterne's topic in The Saints
It would be interesting to know the average age of the stay-aways as it seems to me that we may have a higher percentage of old gits in our support (I include myself in that, not too far off retirement age), it seems greater than at other grounds I visit. Maybe the COVID scare for oldies had taken a bigger toll on our attendances?
