Defensive mishaps in concentration isn't a Manager thing - Bednarek has been prone to that his whole career, hence why he's never really been a Premier League quality defender. Agree that if your defence isn't PL quality then playing the ball around between them isn't a great idea (and that is on the Manager).

Players like Downes are system players, and it tends to be the system that Martin plays. Honestly, I don't know where we go from here - we've bought into a philosophy with players that aren't good enough to carry it off in the Prem (which will also result in them being difficult to shift).

We had a distant 3rd best team, we just got done by the fact that Ipswich's Manager seems to be good (although they're looking pretty shit this season as well). Either way, we finished 4th and won the playoffs against the best team in the Championship player-wise.

Yeah, I said last season that they are looking to make us a yo-yo club as investments in the PL are too high - I was sneered at then. The plan (IMO) is to invest in low cost, young players to play in the Championship, get us promoted, then showcase them in the Prem to sell for good money. With PSR it's too expensive and difficult to stay up year after year if you don't want to invest in the ancillary hotels, marketing etc to allow for more spending.
