So where will they turn up for training? Thought they had no training ground at present ,since King Edward's finally threw them out?

Recently saw 2 blokes ignoring the range of fruit juices and tea/coffee on offer with their hotel cooked breakfast, to drink instead large 'buckets' of coke. Now that's weird.

Mind you that could be affected by the fact that the suicide rate in Sweden is roughly twice that in the UK. Norway's rate isn't much better btw. (It's about 3 times as high in Finland. Of course Finland and Sweden are Gove's great exemplary models of how English education should be developing, but hey ho...it would keep the unemployment figures down.)

Crisps aren't particularly fattening as such. Yes, proportionately high in fat, but there isn't much substance in a packet so you aren't actually consuming much fat in absolute trms. (Try crushing one small and see how little there actually is in a packet) However each packet contains loads of salt. So you will die of a heart attack before you get too fat --- look on the bright side eh?

Don't forget that actually they still have 10 very highly paid, ex championship, or even ex-PL, players on their books , plus some 'promsing youngsters'. So apart from the lack of a goalie they could actually put out a very good team by L1 standards if the season started tomorrow. So there is no need for them to recruit anybody yet ..not until they actually get rid of some of the big earners. Once they do, I suspect the FL will reconsider. And they will always let clubs sign a keeper in an emergency. All this story tells us is that the FL is not letting them sign replacements for players that haven't gone yet. Well, whoopy do!

You may have to enlarge that a bit.

My father was on Artic Convoy escort duty in a tiny little corvette. He had a medal from Russia that he was not even allowed to wear in the UK. Any belated recognition now by our government will be too late for him. Glad to see the few survivors of bomber command getting recognition. The death rate for them was appalling. Of course the civilian deaths were dreadful. War is dreadful.

Quite. Or it may even be that say 7 or 8 of the high earners that are currently on contract do a deal and get very little, then the 2 or 3 remaining get loads of money. That makes the players even more likely to hang on. PLUS there is a faint hope that the PFA may get some money out of the parachute payments in liquidation. Who is going to blink first?

Bar in Coventry refusing to serve servicemen after a funeral
Ken Tone replied to Colinjb's topic in The Lounge
Putting aside the obvious case for the doorman using their discretion in this case, the banning of uniforms is a rather illogical ruling anyway. If a group of squaddies is going to go into a bar and cause trouble , they're going to be a lot harder to trace and a lot harder for MPs to identify if they are not wearing uniform. -

Are they easy to get?

Have a Saints-supporting colleague who is due to retire soon. Any suggestions please for a gift? He is not the type to wear 'colours' and all the 'history of the club' books etc that I'm aware of, have been out for some time, so I suspect he has them already. Or is there anything recent? It will be paid for by quite a generous collection, so price isn't too big a problem. Thanks

Actually I've just parked ok -- though it did cost £7 which may explain why there were spaces!

Any Basingstoke residents able to tell me whether the station car parks fill up, or whether I can expect to find a place as late as 10ish on a weekday morning? Thanks

Sorry about that. I'm clearly better at bird-watching than basic IT.

Here is a photo of a sparrowhawk inn my garden

Peregrines take their prey in the air. Much more likely to be a sparrowhawk on a bird table --always assuming it wasn't just a buzzard, which are by far the most common bird of prey and do feed on carrion and scraps on the ground. You're only likely to see a peregrine on the ground if it is eating a small bird that it has brought down in flight. Sparrowhawk is quite grey and stripey, with bare legs.

3 years does seem harsh ,but we do not know what the whole case was. All we've seen is a short newspaper report -not usually the mostly reliable source! It would appear though that it was not one silly remark as some posters have said , but several which sound more than just silly, including ..... "When told to shut up by a friend, the 21-year-old replied: ''LOL (laugh out loud) - do a few coppers in.'' Southampton Crown Court heard how he then made another post encouraging an attack on Muslim people. "...... ....which if reported accurately does deserve some sort of sentence, even if not 3 years.

Can anyone tell me how these MPs expect Birch to give consideration, fair or otherwise, to a bid from the trust when the trust has not actually made any bid? (In spite of saying they would definitely bid within 7 days, 10 days ago!)
-
Been away for a week. Looking at the news, it would appear nothing has changed. The trust has already missed its own 7 day deadline to bid http://www.pompeytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=409:pst-statement-080612&catid=34:demo-category No player has left. It is still an impasse. Have I missed anything?

I don't think the 2p or the 3p in the pound is the real issue. It's the £18.3 million owed to Chainrai, which Birch seems to have negotiated to Fratton plus £8.3 million -- and of course the big earners. The trust will have to cover that debt to Chainrai somehow, as well as the money to the other creditors.
-
The summary of assets, page 43 ,seems to me to value Fratton Park at £10 million, but leaving chainrai to claim a further £8.3 million from the £14 million parachute payments still due. Am I reading that right? If so he gets the ground plus £8.3 million in return for his £500k and promises to cover football creditors' debt .. IF those come down to a level he is prepared to accept. Not bad deal for him if the FC debts aren't too high. 3 years of covering a bit of loss, but with £8.3 million to outweigh that, then he can liquidate anyway, wait a bit to get planning, and then sell the ground for building land.
-
Have we ever had the definitive answer to what the players get if the club is liquidated? That is absolutely crucial. The football creditors rule becomes irrelevant is there is no club, so it comes down to whether the PFA or the PL/FA?FL would use the remainaing parachute payments or some sort of insurance fund to pay them off. In short if the players will get most of or all of their money regardless, then they really are toast. If however Birch can really threaten "sign a compromise agreement or we go bust and then you get nothing", then it is only a matter of brinkmanship and agreeing amounts.
-
So how do they get round this clause? Surely if Ben Haim etc just say 'no' the whole thing is scuppered anyway? That the Administrators agree compromise agreements with the PFA, certain players and certain employees for all outstanding amounts of salaries, bonuses, future contractual rights and all other forms of remuneration or income of certain players and certain employees. For the avoidance of doubt, it shall be the sole responsibility of the Administrators to agree the above compromise agreements and in the event that the Administrators fail to agree these compromise agreements, there shall be no obligation on the Purchaser to complete on the SPA .
