That was a genuine Portsmouth fan that posted that. Mind you, with the paranoia on POL, he will probably be banned anyway.

Some reality finally kicking in on POL ........ New "A ground that holds less than 21k. No really decent or any proper corporate facilities. Training facilities quite basic and not even owned by the club, a significant debt, no signed squad. As for the best fans......Afraid not. We keep on saying we are but even when in the top flight we couldn't consistantly fill a small stadium. Even in the premiership there wasn't a waiting list of fans who couldn't get season tickets was there? So there are not twenty thousand Pompey fans wanting to see their team in the top flight with players that a just a few years before we could only dream of. I'm not knocking the fans, after all i'm one of them, but think of the so called Pompey fans who filled Wembley or the 250k who cheered the open top bus ride, where were they when the season was under way? People talk about the catchment area that PFC has but I don't think even acounting for the glory hunters or prawn sarny brigade we could fill a shiney new 30k seater stadium. Forget the rivalry forget the bias or scum hating emotions, it will be interesting to see how many season tickets have been sold down the road now that they are in the Premiership and have a nice new stadium; after all our catchment area is near enough the same as thiers surely? The hard core Pompey fans are passionate are noisey but that hard core is not that big. Many of those fans that cheered and clapped Mr Henry did not bother to buy a season ticket. I don't know what our prices were compared to other Premiership clubs but everyone across the nation were affected by the economic downturn so can we simply put it down to cost? So IMHO we are not a good buy and even though it was not the fans fault, Portsmouth Football Club's name since this whole debacle began has been tarnished and that may also influence some potential buyers. There must be other clubs out there with potential, good facilities, a good fan base but without the baggage we have and who is investing millions in them? There is no white knight, our best bet is something like the Trust to bring us back to being an honest club, a family club, a community club, a passionate club, a decent club, but not a big one.

Totally agree. Went to the Olympic park a couple of times this last week. They even pipe music all round the park, never mind in the venues. And at the hockey, if 'they' felt the crowd was a bit quiet they played a clip of "we will rock you" at full blast. Why oh why oh why oh why .... And by the way why we did have to have an American commentating in the athletics stadium ...not just with an American accent but with all those awful American sports commentatior habits ? Grrrrr.

Ah yes , 'banker', the rhyming slang username!

So that's me, hypo, Scot McCoughlin (sp?), Colin Farmery and some git called Frattoniser, that make the entire POL list of posters?

The talk on POL is about a tweet from someone they seem to think is ITK, that says Chainrai is taking over in the next 24 hours, as TBH does a deal. Well I say the talk ,but it is always pretty quiet on there .....they only have about 20 members left that are allowed to post!

Went today. Assuming you are going via Waterloo, ignore the advice to get off the tube at west ham ...go on to Stratford on jubilee line.. It's not too congested . Take food with you if you want it ...queues are long in the Park.

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....
Ken Tone replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Lounge
Last time I was there, some islanders I met were chuckling wryly to themselves, after buying some waitrose badged chicken from the West Store supermarket in Stanley..... Country of origin, Argentina. The meat had gone all the way to the Uk ,then been shipped back down to the Falklands. -
Ben Ainslie and Iain Percy both went to Peter Symonds College in Winchester -- local lads , sort of!

Argentina upping the ante on the Falklands....

I've been to that cemetery. It is extremely unlikely that any Falkand Islander would vandalise it. The islanders show great respect for all such memorials. And if someone did want to vandalise ,why would they choose just that one small piece of glass out of all that huge cemetery? It might even have been damage caused by the high winds that prevail there. -
I'll look at it. Thanks

Thanks again for the advice so far. Idiot question from me now please, because I've been trying to decide which contract deal is best -- high on free minutes but no data , or low on minutes but some free data. Email usage. Is that effectively data download, so that if the contract has loads of free minutes and texts but no data allowance, there will be a cost for every email read or sent ? Any idea of cost?

Trouble is, the wife is used to a steam-powered simple, Nokia that she just uses for phone and texts, with a battery that last for a week, so the idea of charging every night would appal her. My Blackberry usually needs charging every 3 days, but I do switch it off overnight.... And I keep GPS stuff switched off unless I need it. It's amazing isn't it, how we seem to accept such short battery life from smartphones? Am currently leaning towards an I-phone 4 on the sort of deal Block 18 has, but am grateful for the responses so far , and would welcome any other suggestions.

We could just have a special thread for Turkish to pick on MLG, and a few sad gits to join him -- that alone would stop half the problem.

This is indeed what makes their whingeing about the fit persons test so irritating. If the FL. had refused to let CSI, or any other of their dodgy owners, takeover, the chances are they'd have gone bust years ago anyway --amidst cries of anger against the football authorities.

Yes Colin Farmery seems basically ok, but he is not really part of the POL lot is he? He runs another PFC message board. (Though god knows how he finds time to run his site as well as being a college vice principal.)

Not sure we get T-mobile reception out here in the sticks... The coverage websites show it as touch and go. How is battery life on the I-phone?
-
Hadnt heard of the battery extension ..sounds a good idea if not too bulky.

I use a blackberry and an iPad myself, but since both are provided by my work I haven't really taken much notice of contract deals, functions etc. I now need to buy a phone for my wife that is at least vaguely up to date. She doesn't want lots of bells and whistles - phone, text ,emails and a bit of internet use, and I suppose some pics, mostly still not video. She is unlikely to play games or much music. Where we live doesn't have particularly good reception. Is ok on O2, so-so on '3', and dodgy on most other networks. Want good battery life as a priority, and not too big a phone to fit in pocket etc. What would you advise? I'd like to keep contract below £30 a month if possible.

I signed up to POL ages ago, on the naive basis that I might find out more about their ownership situation. I was wrong. They are so paranoid on there that they jump on any poster that dos not follow the party line that the Trust will be their saviour, and all other discussion is strangled. Presumably as a result, there are remarkably few regular posters, all from an inner clique and often they are reduced to quoting the News stories.

Somebody please explain to me why we have 'Team GB', rather than 'Team UK', when uk includes northern ireland and GB doesn't?
-
Someone has just gone on Pompey on line as 'Russell Hobbs' to announce that ticket sales have been suspended!
-
And notice that the rates of virtually all other crimes have dropped too ...but somehow I'm pretty sure that will not a headline in the Daily Mail. "Life Getting Better Shock"

I'd check carefully to see what else has dropped off overnight if I were you!
