Or it could have been Unbelievable Jeff or maybe even Saintnick (a late entry in the field). Anyone might think there was a link there somewhere...

He hasn't had a decent holiday in ages, poor lamb. What's an extra £5,000 between 250,000 supporters?
-
Agree on all counts. And yes, I'm sure this will be locked soon.
-
I should hope not. There's been far too much pontificating on this thread already.

Bloody hell. I've been feeling like sh!te all day, and spent a fair bit of the afternoon watching things develop on Cricinfo, then listened to the radio driving home. Took me to 6pm and heard Warner's wicket fall. Went straight to bed, slept till half an hour ago, then got my laptop to check again, hoping we might have nipped a couple more out. What a performance from Broad in particular and, after all the criticism of Cook as exhibiting a 'captaincy by numbers', what a vindication for him too. Brilliantly played - there simply isn't anything sweeter in cricket than stuffing the Aussies.

Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?

Well, you seem to have plenty of time on your hands, so I'd expect his post count to climb rapidly. -
In quite a few of those examples, it's more the title than the cover that is excruciating. For one of the worst LP covers I can think of, one need look no further than Blind Faith, a 70s 'supergroup' featuring Eric 'Slowhand' Clapton...

It's not without precedent. Fulchester Rovers signed both Shakin' Stevens and Mick Hucknall out of Simply Red at different times. Shaky had a particularly successful spell with Fulchester, as I recall.

Just being able to say they saw the mighty Pompey play should be enough for them - no need to be greedy. No doubt in a few years time the entire population of Braintree will be claiming to have been there tonight.
-
Can you narrow that down a little? Could be any one of so many posters...

Ah, OK - I've clearly got confused on my transfer fees! I had £440,000 in my mind for some reason, so maybe that was Keegan. Either way, Armstrong was a fantastic signing at any price.
-
Very few transfer fees were over £1M at the time we signed Keegan though. Can't remember how much we paid for KK, but a year later David Armstrong became our record signing at a stonking £440,000. And remained our record signing for a good few years, come to that. In other words, these things are all relative...

Always my favourite Saints player - and this, after al, is the title of the thread.

Whatever one might think about Twitter rumours, it's impossible not to admire the consistency of your argument.

A favourite of mine, by Shelley: I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed. And on the pedestal these words appear: `My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The lone and level sands stretch far away". Top thread by the way

Likewise. Those fathers of heavily-built daughters from Troon to Aberfeldy will be forever shaking in their shoes...

For those who've heard of him and didn't know, the great Bobby 'Blue' Bland checked out at the age of 83 a couple of days back. Great singer, blues and soul legend.

We produce the world's finest nostalgia. We don't do it as well as we used to though.

Posters you respect.....who don't post here any more, and you can see why

Scooby (please forgive the MLG-style pedantry) was hilarious, not least in his ability to wind up those who took him seriously. -

I thought he was Dave Jones - the erstwhile financial director that is, not the eponymous ex-manager. I hope the mods will forgive me if this post is libellous or naughty in any way. -
Heard this on the radio this morning, felt shocked and sad in equal measure. Terrific actor, absolutely superb as Tony Soprano, and by all accounts a top bloke too. Two years younger than me - jeez.

Not sure if anyone called him Tom, but it's not a bad look.

It's like when Hypo pretended he once had a girlfriend. Some things are just wrong.

I think maybe you've misunderstood that. If a club simply wants to get rid of a player who doesn't want to leave (and has no other club to go to), then the club will have to pay up the contract or, at the very least, negotiate an agreed pay-off with the player. If, however, the player is wanted by another club and a move is agreed between clubs and player, there would be no need for the selling club to pay up the player's remaining contract. That holds whether or not a transfer request was submitted.
