Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
Colinjb replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
To me his ability is evident, it may not work out, but it's worth trying. If it doesn't work out, as I said in my prior post it's more to do with the manager. In my personal opinion our transfer activity this window cannot be faulted. -

Sorry Alpine, I think you are being hysterical. I cannot agree. Our squad depth is immeasurably better then this time last year, we have signed three players who have significantly strengthened our first team, kept all of our young talent which in prior years would have been ripe for the plucking and the only disappointment is losing a player who regardless of ability has had a history of erratic behaviour on loan. Any weakness currently would seem to be on the side of the manager who needs to back up the squad we have by getting things right tactically, Poch admitted on Saturday he shouldn't have removed Lallana as early as he did... if any negativity should be present currently it should be directed there, not at our transfer activity. To progress from where we are we will need to invest exponentially more and more in the side for incrementally smaller and smaller levels of improvement. The important thing as fans is not to get too carried away regardless of the clubs big talk. -

Oh for goodness sake. Had Lallana's shot gone a couple of millimeters to the right on Saturday...... -

A twisted but nonetheless though provoking bit of logic! -

His exact word was 'retire.' And it seemed to be a less then permanent arrangement. -

Hmmm, insulting and derisory. -
Behave yourself.

I understand what you mean. It's easy for people to get swept along with the positive vibes though and after the progress over the last 4 years who wouldn't believe that we can aim for the stars? Naturally though when it comes to it, it will require exponentially greater resources to make smaller and smaller steps forward now. We are approaching the glass ceiling and if we fail to break it then people will be disappointed. In marketing speak people will always left happier if they are under promised and over delivered (surprise and delight!) as opposed to over promised and under delivered.

Lennon leaving would be a body blow to them... that much is obvious. -
As someone who is still addicted to the glorified spreadsheet despite approaching 30, I would hope that they are able to tell the difference between a mathematic model of sport and reality itself. Those who go stupid when our football team invariably loses a game are from many different perspectives, it's not just restricted to the data geeks.

Can't believe he is only 26, feels like he has been around forever! Regualar first team performer at Spurs, has even captained the odd game for them and signed a 4 year contract last summer. Can't see why he would want to come here... he is effectively part of the furniture at Spurs and will surely fancy that he can fight for an maintain his place in their side. -

I believe this is sadly redundant as he is almost certain to go on loan at Getafé for the season. -
That ties in with the performance of my employer. We are currently growing at our fastest rate since prior to the recession kicking in back in 2008.

As far as I can tell Puncheon's move was motivated by the player himself, it wasn't primarily our decision. I believe he has a new born son up in Croydon and wanted to go back to be with the little one as much as he can. (Not 100% on that but completely explains the move.) Hope we can get a replacement, Tom Ince would be ideal. And Alpine, please 'Gash'ton..... such low efforts don't become you. -
Favourite player in the current squad? Was that playing it far too vanilla?

Official: Saints academy player most expensive player ever
Colinjb replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Yep, think we relegated them to League 1 that day. And yes, that play-off semi final, his last game for us. Still can't stand Derby to this day for that, their karma came quickly in the top flight. -

Extremely proud to see him become the most expensive player in history. Can still remember the precocious youngster making his debut at the back end of the 05/06 season. -
1-2. Both Osvaldo and Rickie scoring.

The top 5 most important goals Saints have scored in the last 5 years
Colinjb replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
Oooo, like this. 5 - Puncheon v QPR. 2012 The kickstart our season needed, asserted us as a cut above the real strugglers. 4 - Lambert v Blackpool 2011. 2-1 down, having an indifferent time of it, that late equaliser typified our spirit that year. 3 - Barnard v MK Dons 2011. Forte got the plaudits but his third secured the win and kept us right at the sharp end. 2 - Hooiveld v West Ham 2011. As jawillwill said. That was the game where we really underlined our ambition for the year. 1 - Fonte v Brighton 2011. Put us clear of Huddersfield, at that point our destiny was our own and we seized it gladly.
