Its a valid question. We sell all our best players, because they want to go, yes, buy why do they want to go? More wages, yes. CL football, maybe except that Liverpool cant offer that (though obviously did last season) and neither can spurs. Because the club don't show an ambition of challenging perhaps? We were always looking upwards under Cortese because clearly we started quite low down. It would have been very interesting how things would have panned out under him in the long run. Now, we are stable financially and on the pitch, but you cannot keep losing your best players year on year and expect to progress, we will get found out at some point. Hopefully J Rod will have a great season, but if he does, he's off. Look at the players we bought last season, have any of them been a defining success, is everyone totally convinced by them? Probably not totally and now we have to add some more new players. We proved last season we can overcome adversity, be interesting to see if we can again without our best player.

Maybe the gay clubs in Liverpool are better than The Edge, might not just be the money? See, if The Magnum was still there, he might have stayed.

nice try

Aside from the usual suspects, you are right, that would be the only chance but now the lesser Euro teams take that more seriously, so seeing the likes of Fulham (ala Saints) in the final again would be remote, we're not up with the lesser Euro teams.

The five year plan was completed in three years. not sure Cortese had a timescale for CL, but I think the players definitely bought into his vision. Ironically we have been closer since he left, but clearly he set the foundations. At the end of the day, with the present board we are no closer to CL than we ever were, despite the league positions recently. Like it or not, it's not going to happen when you don't buy for it, and we certainly don't. We have an owner that could afford to but doesn't and some dodgy FFP rules, so if RK has another decent season then don't be surprised to see him him progress to CL himself.

Had a quick hello with him at Gatwick the other morning, he was off to Puerto Banus. You'd think Utd would be protecting their investment, but he's off living up with his mates..

Who's digging out their 'Be a Gooner for the day' t-shirt?

I do mean Braga, but it was a metaphor really. but you can't take the 2 grand to watch us in Europe. That's the point, Villa win and you get 2K or Arsenal win and you get a place in the qualifying rounds of ten Europa League. As much I want us in Europe, 2k, that's a lot of money to pass on.. -

id take 2 grand any day!! That or us being knocked out by Braega? -
"Potentially world class" don't forget lol

Yes I realise it's not Robson, typo, couldn't be arse to edit it, was quite clear who it was. Anyway, back to the OP, just seen on the Echo site, now they are voting, but haven't they always presented this before the final home game of the season?
-
Sorry, maybe I have missed it, but who got the vote? Was it presented before the villa game?

Reckon KD will announce his retirement after Sunday, seems fitting to finish on 300. Clearly Gazziniga isn't up to it, would be very dangerous going into the season with him. so what about Green? Good enough? Yes. PL experience? Plenty Available? Would think so normal enough ego to fight Forster when his fit, without throwing his toys out if the pram? Hopefully. reckon we could get him for 4 or 5, which would be peanuts for the stability and experience he could provide.

sorry Lou, but you said it and some agreed and it just stayed with me, because frankly, of what we have seen of him, to even suggest that is 'potentially' WC is ridiculous. The bloke is rubbish, no wonder the club havent offered him a contract.
-
I have noticed that you follow Turkish around like a puppy, or are you the same person?
-
Bump hehehehe (I'm doing a Turkish)
-
But Coxford Lou said he was potentially to be world class, many also agreed. so now I'm confused.
-
Indeed, retrospectively obvious from the usual suspects.
-
are you suggesting that he would do such a thing, whatever would give you that idea? Oh, yes, that's what he did at Palace!
-
He is driving a black cab in London. That's a fact btw. Probably plays non league now.

I was wondering how different it was back in 1984, when we finished runners up to Liverpool. What was the atmosphere of the challenge like, was it as surprising as now? Clearly there was no 'top four' place to go for, it was win or lose for The European Cup. Was their a sense of believing we could win the league or did everyone always feel that we wouldn't? What was the expectation at the start of the season? Should we have won it? I know, perhaps back then, we were one of the better sides during the eighties, so was there as much adulation about Saints as this is now? And what would have been bigger, winning the league back in 84 or getting fourth place next month? Would be interesting to heat the thoughts of those who were there back then.

Really? he is having a good run presently but he still looks like he will miss as many as he scores. I am not convinced for the long run but to suggest he is anywhere near the class of Lallana is folly, there is no way that Mane will ever be as good as Lallana. Given his position, he will hopefully score more goals, clearly he is quicker but he will not dominate a game in the same way as Lallana did for us for about 4 years. Mane is about sudden impact, Lallana was control. but obviously this is about making out anyone who left under a cloud is **** now, Lovren yes, but not Lallana.

think its fair to say that was made up to create a bit of book controversy, backfired a bit. There was no spread betting on throw ons back in the mid nineties.

Adkins on SSN this morning talking Saints and UCL/PL title
Noodles34 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Not in the slightest I would suspect. Doubt Cortese was bothered about L1 and Championship Cups. nigel was sacked because Cortese saw that his kind of football, in which we see Leicester playing, ain't going to cut it in the EPL, not to the ambition of Cortese anyway. clearly it was a horrible decision that cut loose a genuinely great guy, but as a football thing, we are in a place now in respect of position, style and stature that we would never have been (probably) under Nige. -
well you do, anyway, have a good week at school
