  1. every club wastes money on transfers, its ridiculous that Cortese keeps getting blamed for this, which is not an issue, because it was his fault on Gaston and Forren, maybe Poch had more of a say with Osvaldo. But look at Utd - the guy they had on loan, Liverpool - Lovren, Spurs - where do you start, Arsenal - Uzil.... do i need to go through every club and point out their wastage?
  2. come on, there is definitely not the same philosophy going on as there was a couple of years ago. It was, and to his credit, Cortese's view that we should be playing young English players and Poch was behind that too. I don't believe that RK buys into that at all. Lets say, its certainly not a directive from the club any more, you cant deny that.
  3. You cant, granted, but i just wish the club were a bit more honest about what they say to us, but lets see what he says.
  4. and what happened to the process of bring through great young British kids that made us all so proud of how Southampton were leading the way for the national team?
  5. Do you really, honestly believe that we can keep selling our best players and get away with it. Do you have figures in mind for Victor and J Rod for the next transfer window?
  6. time, hands, much, on, too, your
  7. oh, I was under the impression it was great season when we finished 8th, which is just 2 of 6th, which was amazing...
  8. no you don't offer a 'more accurate analysis', guess everything is up for debate and reasoning, which you and a few others seem to have a problem with. Im not grizzling about Cortese going, he's history and by his standards, he should be forgotten. But one thing is for sure, in my opinion, there is no doubt whatsoever that he was a lot more ambitious than the current board. That's not to say the current board is wrong, I just think that they will be more than content with PL stability and the odd decent season, which is very well but just don't paint it as ambition. Or maybe in the climate of the super rich clubs, hanging onto their coat tails is ambition? You shoot down Alpine Saint tediously, I'm not a big fan of his either, mainly because of his views on Hillsborough, he is negative and perhaps just a troll but I think his question today did have a point. Though its a point we've been over many times previously. But then we've discussed the 'greatest team, goal, foul.....' many times as well. That's all I think, sorry if my opinion and that of others who don't agree with your full timers club ruin your party, but I was under the impression that was what the point of this forum was about. You don't know me, you don't know my history in supporting this club so please don't patronise me when I happen to have a different opinion. I don't know you, but I might do, maybe you sit behind me in The Itchen, maybe I say hello to you every game, you sound like a knob on here but maybe you're not. You don't need to educate me pal, just don't respond if you feel I have not contributed anything worth responding to. (or was it just because I was right on FFP)
  9. you said, The reason we didn't sell anyone in the 18 months he lasted as CEO in the Premier League was because we were utter gash for the first 6 months, in the bottom half for the second 6 months, and that he sodded off 6 months late in mid-season knowing that all the players who had become good were all about to jump ship due to failing to reach the Champions League in 2013/14 as a result of having an upper-midtable squad with no depth but a lot of empty promises? so despite what you say, we were eight, sort of contradictory.
  10. do remind me what position we were in when Cortese left please....
  11. brilliant mate, what a valuable input, though I guess you offer little else.
  12. Its a valid question. We sell all our best players, because they want to go, yes, buy why do they want to go? More wages, yes. CL football, maybe except that Liverpool cant offer that (though obviously did last season) and neither can spurs. Because the club don't show an ambition of challenging perhaps? We were always looking upwards under Cortese because clearly we started quite low down. It would have been very interesting how things would have panned out under him in the long run. Now, we are stable financially and on the pitch, but you cannot keep losing your best players year on year and expect to progress, we will get found out at some point. Hopefully J Rod will have a great season, but if he does, he's off. Look at the players we bought last season, have any of them been a defining success, is everyone totally convinced by them? Probably not totally and now we have to add some more new players. We proved last season we can overcome adversity, be interesting to see if we can again without our best player.
  13. Maybe the gay clubs in Liverpool are better than The Edge, might not just be the money? See, if The Magnum was still there, he might have stayed.
  14. Aside from the usual suspects, you are right, that would be the only chance but now the lesser Euro teams take that more seriously, so seeing the likes of Fulham (ala Saints) in the final again would be remote, we're not up with the lesser Euro teams.
  15. The five year plan was completed in three years. not sure Cortese had a timescale for CL, but I think the players definitely bought into his vision. Ironically we have been closer since he left, but clearly he set the foundations. At the end of the day, with the present board we are no closer to CL than we ever were, despite the league positions recently. Like it or not, it's not going to happen when you don't buy for it, and we certainly don't. We have an owner that could afford to but doesn't and some dodgy FFP rules, so if RK has another decent season then don't be surprised to see him him progress to CL himself.
  16. Had a quick hello with him at Gatwick the other morning, he was off to Puerto Banus. You'd think Utd would be protecting their investment, but he's off living up with his mates..
  17. I do mean Braga, but it was a metaphor really. but you can't take the 2 grand to watch us in Europe. That's the point, Villa win and you get 2K or Arsenal win and you get a place in the qualifying rounds of ten Europa League. As much I want us in Europe, 2k, that's a lot of money to pass on..
  18. id take 2 grand any day!! That or us being knocked out by Braega?
  19. "Potentially world class" don't forget lol
  20. Yes I realise it's not Robson, typo, couldn't be arse to edit it, was quite clear who it was. Anyway, back to the OP, just seen on the Echo site, now they are voting, but haven't they always presented this before the final home game of the season?
  21. Sorry, maybe I have missed it, but who got the vote? Was it presented before the villa game?
  22. Reckon KD will announce his retirement after Sunday, seems fitting to finish on 300. Clearly Gazziniga isn't up to it, would be very dangerous going into the season with him. so what about Green? Good enough? Yes. PL experience? Plenty Available? Would think so normal enough ego to fight Forster when his fit, without throwing his toys out if the pram? Hopefully. reckon we could get him for 4 or 5, which would be peanuts for the stability and experience he could provide.
  23. sorry Lou, but you said it and some agreed and it just stayed with me, because frankly, of what we have seen of him, to even suggest that is 'potentially' WC is ridiculous. The bloke is rubbish, no wonder the club havent offered him a contract.
  24. I have noticed that you follow Turkish around like a puppy, or are you the same person?
