  1. I understand Alpine's point but I don't think others think as cynically as this. Yes, we may pick up knocks due to playing so often but I really don't believe teams will look to deliberately injure our players just because we have games in hand on them. It’s really about the cover we have and how well equipped we are. The FA Cup matches against MU and Blackpool gave me confidence we have real strength in depth at the back. It’s the options up front and the creative options in midfield I am more worried about. Overall though, I think we are in reasonable shape and it should be an exciting run in but I think we will we do it (i.e. 1st or 2nd).
  2. What's wrong with the Ted Bates Trophy or indeed the JPT :-) but OK point taken ... edited and added 42 England caps still impressive.
  3. not a favourite of mine but an impressive collection of medals nonetheless .. * Football League First Division: 7 1973, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 * UEFA Cup: 2 1973, 1976 * FA Cup: 1 1974 * European Cup: 3 1977, 1978, 1981 * Football League Cup: 3 1981, 1982, 1983 * Full England International caps: 42
  4. Traffic shouldn't be too bad those times. As said M3 - M25 -M40/A40 or just as good M3 - M25 - M4 - A312
  5. First Saints Game:- 1965 - v Plymouth, I think (a long time ago and still in shorts) First Away Game: - Not sure but regularly went away in the early seventies (a lot of rough and tumble in those days) Best Away Trip: - Enjoy them all when we win. Winning at Anfield about 10 or 12 years ago was good. Forest away 3-3 was also good (1977 I think) Favourite Saints Memories: - Beating Liverpool in late sixties (early Chivers goal), semi-final of the league cup beating dirty Leeds 1-0 (Terry Curran goal at the Milton end - went berserk), the odd European game at the dell (great atmosphere), Cardiff and JPT. One real regret in life was missing the FA Cup in 76. Worst Saints Memories: - Losing to Everton at Highbury in the FA Cup semi final (still hurts), 2005 relegation season - many depressing moments. Preferred Strand St. Mary's:- Kingsland Centre (old fart these days) Preferred Stand The Dell: - Milton Road as a lad early seventies then latterly west stand. St. Mary's or the Dell: - Dell for atmosphere (evening games with a packed house, great!), St Marys for viewing Best current player: - Lallana Favourite Players technically other than Le Tiss: - Terry Paine, Mick Channon, Ron Davies, Steve Williams, Steve Moran, . Favourite Players cult wise other than Le Tiss:- Brian O'Neill Favourite unsung heroes:- Nick Holmes Favourite Manager:- Ted Bates. Laurie Mac Most hated Players:- Never hated a player whist they played for us Worst Players:- Dave MacLaren (still don't understand how Ted could sign the goalie who we put 9 past in a game the previous season) Worst Manager:- Branfoot Where will Saints be in 5 years time realistically:- Mid table in the new European Super League
  6. Correct, you would make a profit if it wasnt a draw ... or you could lay the draw on betfair at around 4.8 ... similar outcome. BTW there is no betting tax passed on to the punter these days.
  7. I'm with Rickie (and I was also sure we'd beat Tranmere)! However maybe worth a punt at 7/1 (generally available) to win in normal time? Man U may well rest players?
  8. Dalgleish favourite but Rijkaart, O'Neill and Coyle all in the running. Our Nige not in the betting up to 100/1 so over 100/1 chance of this or no chance.
  9. I think I recall that game. MLT came on as a young sub, scored twice in a 4-1 demolition and Atkinson got sacked? The league cup I believe as it was an evening game.
  10. Good poll and discussion this. Shows the manager's job not an easy one (or perhaps it is if they are both as good as each other). I like both but Harding just edges for me. I thought he was terrific last season and hasn't really had a fair crack this season. That said Dickson has really done well. I know ... I'll get splinters sitting on the defence!
  11. I think the problem will be a frozen pitch. Forecast -4 overnight on Friday and -1 high during the day on Saturday. Anyone know if they have undersoil heating?
  12. Liza Tarbuck anyone? http://www.bapwatch.com/obscure/and/lisa_tarbuck_17.jpg
  13. Mike Bassett more like! Couldn't see either in the betting but would you believe a couple of firms have Dennis Wise in at 33/1! Pardew still favourite around Evens with Jol second avourite around 2/1. I would be staggered if Pardew got the job but the bookies think so. None of this makes any sense to me.
  14. My tip for the day ... Beware of parking next to two door coupés. Door swing or arc is greater than normal four door cars hence increased probability of your car being knocked if you park next to one.
  15. Looks like it's pretty much sold out. Just a few seats left at the rear of the balcony. Should be a good night!
  16. Brian O'Neil Fred Kemp Tommy Jenkins Jimmy Melia Jimmy Gabriel
  17. I agree. I thought he held the line well, laid off well, was generally a handfull, worked hard ... just not the potent force he was last season but still well worth his place. The goals will come.
  18. As in ... ? http://www.kontraband.com/pics/16713/Donkey-Love-Banned/
  19. Don't listen when they say don't try this at home. All you need to do is find some tall buildings and practice.
  20. see 4 above!
  21. Don Quixote?
  22. Abdomen of a sturgeon, Jellyfish, Sea slug, a bowl of chicken’s cartilages, a chicken’s claw, crocodile; all in the Far East. Was offered grilled Bull’s penis once but declined.
  23. Thanks, not sure I will get a choice when I phone up but when I do I shall plump for that one.
  24. I couldn't go last season but intend to go this time. Any views on which is the best stand to opt for (Extrabet or the Bitesize stand) from anyone?
  25. Might take the missus as a valentine's treat. Worried about spoiling her somewhat though as I was planning on getting her a new vacuum cleaner for Xmas.
