Liverpool suffering from the same thing England have been with Gerrard in DM - he's not good enough defensively to offer enough protection to the defence. Last year, Lovren looked class because he had good players all around him and we're a very solid unit with Morgan/Davis/Wanyama/Cork all playing their roles. The only reason Gerrard is playing DM is to give him time to pick out those long raking 50 yard passes (which barely come off!!)

Although I've never bought into this BBC agenda against us, this is a joke. Skrtel?! Just a very odd choice. How can a player who let in 2 goals against the leagues bottom team, get in the team of the week. Admittedly it means nothing, but just makes himself look like a tool.

Tadic most unselfish Saints player ever?
Saint Garrett replied to Red and White Army's topic in The Saints
Exactly this - Everyone was so wanting Gaston to show his talent, and we all waited for him to perform, Tadic has come in and been excellent - looks a superb player. An excellent buy from Koeman, and seems to get on really with Graziano. Happy days. -

It's certainly due.

No Judas, Just Poyet - Sunderland Build Up

20 degrees today. Might have to ditch the jumper. -
It's football, t's a passionate thing. I am absolutely delighted how we've started and never expected to have a start as good as this and full credit to the club. I hope it continues all season and we win the league, but he people saying "haha look at the bedwetters" weren't worried when we had lost 5 very good players, our chairman, captain and manager, and it looked like our best player (Morgan) was also going to leave. In hindsight it looks like a pretty good summer, but I was certainly worried about our prem status when this thread was started.

Stoke? Beaten neither since our return to the prem. but we'd never beaten QPR at St Mary's either, we won that!! -
Saints Have 45% Chance of Top Five Finish

Not convinced it's that high. Fixtures play a part. -
Worse thing about this is that none of these are regularly playing RB!

They've sold out their away end - I'm guessing they weren't given the full allocation ?! Great effort for them. They're lucky its Saturday 3:00!! Would expect the attendance to be circa 30/31,000 -
Guessing he doesn't count as the "early prem years" would be above Shearer for me....a very tough team to pick though !

GUARDIAN: Sadio Mané leading the golden generation of Senegal
Saint Garrett replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Hes ok and quick, but his tactical game is pretty woeful, and hes a diver. Sort that out and he might win a few more people over. Needs to be better than he currently is, hopefully that will come with time and games. -
If we want Bertrand, we will have him. Noone else will pay the £10m agreed fee IMO. Alderweireld - although we have agreed 5.6m or whatever it was, i'd be surprised if he didn't end up at a bigger club depending on his season. Potentially Clyne and JRod will go if we cant sort out contracts
-
Clyne has already been sold by Lallana!

Not sure - Wanyama is extremely good at what he does and Davis plays in a different position. We're not really shopping in the "top player" bracket either are we - not unless we're in the Champs League which isn't going to happen. -

Odd. We'll be lucky to find a player "far far better than Cork". -

Yeah, Id love it if we were to do make a statement (Kevin Keegan voice) -
Couple of left field suggestions there!!
-
I think this is it really - He was never brought in to be our no1 wide player, or our no1 striker, however we did need an alternative to Pelle if he didnt hit the ground running, and also someone with some legs until JRod returns to the team. He was overpriced but so were a lot of people this summer, cant have a go at him for that. A decent player to have in the squad.
-
Yeah - actually that is fair, that backheel was class, but I think you have to either put up with the fact he's going to offer very little all game and then he'll do something really good, i.e. pen vs arsenal, or go with long who probably isnt as good at times, but is consistently decent. probably also offers much more from a defensive point of view. Personally I would have gone with Long at Spurs, but then if Mane had scored vs Spurs you'd probably say he did pretty well - a tough one, two completely different players.
-
I think Mane needs to get used to how we play a bit more, he was hit and miss at Arsenal, did well to win the pen, was dangerous vs Qpr but didn't think he actually achieved too much, and yesterday I thought he was poor, long is more reliable.
-
He's decent enough, would play him instead of Mane.
