Statement from Nicola Cortese essential now.....
eurosaint replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
But without asking the questions we certainly will never know ! I believe that it is his duty as custodian to be open, truthful and honest to his flock ! -
I wish that we had a 'transfer embargo', they have signed Ashdown, Sonko, Dickinson, Kitson, Lawrence and Flahavan whilst without one, we only got Richardson, Dickson and Butterfield !! Oh how the other half lives, eh !

I do : 1) Why did you sack Pardew ? 2) Why at this critical time ? 3) Are you concerned about supporter unrest ? 4) You talk of stability, but your actions seem to contradict this, will it actually happen ? 5) Do you intend to be more transparent in future ? and that's just for starters.... ! In any 'high profile' business, one would expect the CEO to confront the cameras and explain his stance/strategy ! -

I was once in the 'Boys Brigade' ! -
IMO Martin did enough last night to retain his place in the side ! Pardew alluded to this in his interview and his comment that he would pick his best team 'irrespective of reputations' indicates to me that AM will start !

I must say that was my instant reaction ! It seemed a clear two handed push but I am waiting to see the highlights just in case I imagined it in the heat of the moment !

Davis 6 - one good save, otherwise not much to do, kicking erratic ! Butterfield 6 - solid but not much going forward ! Fonte 7 - pushed forward late in the game and threatened their backline ! Martin 7 - no nonsense, kept Davies in check, better than Jaidi on Sat, should start v Brizzle ! Harding 6 - worked hard but didn't really inspire ! Puncheon 8 - always involved but looked better in middle than out wide (after Chamberlain came on) maybe this is his best role ! Schneiderlin 7 - kept probing, got stuck in ! Hammond 7 - big improvement on last Sat, playing for his place now ? Lallana 8 - great in 1st half, ok in the 2nd, came close a few times ! Lambert 5 - looks unfit, poor set pieces, not himself, right to be subbed ! Barnard 7 - worked his socks off, desperately needs a break for a deserved goal but not as good as Sat ! Subs: Chamberlin 6 - looked dangerous but too little time to influence the game with his pace ! Connolly 6 - sharp, made an impact, but (as above) not much time to get into it ! Mills 5 - saw little of the ball, guess it was just a runout for him ! All IMHO of course !

Official Statement from Cortese about future

My guess would be the media, the Sun in particular ! I don't think that DBP figures on his radar ! -
You could try being a lot less provocative and even a little bit positive occasionally !!

Makes you wonder also how any of the resident lefties can defend the labour government making him SIR Phillip Green in the first place, eh ??

For every good signing, there is a bad signing ! For every good loan, there is a bad loan ! This happens to all teams at all levels ! Some are critical of the Antonio deal not being watertight in our favour, but this is being 'wise after the event', should we have done the same with Mellis for example, I'm sure that most would say no, which kind of proves my point ! IMHO a combination of new signings (which we partly already have!) coupled with a few loans, is not unhealthy and arguably gives us more flexibility come the end of the season !

Assuming that this was done during Chanrai's watch, how will this be viewed when assessing him as a 'fit and proper person' then ?? Ps. I am aware that the FL and not the PL are making the call !

If only others in society today could realise the importance of these values, we would all be so much better off ! Everything about Markus was modest but determined, he epitomised decency and restraint ! He was everything that the recent Skate owners were not, let's all hope that his legacy continues in the same vein !

RIP mein freund, bis zum naechtsten mal !

I know Reading fans who think that Pardew is great and I also know Charlton fans who think that he is cr@p ! It really all depends on what you achieve (given reasonable time and budget) ! So far I reckon that Pards has done pretty well and am confident that this will continue !

Why were so many of our "best first XI" in the league missing ?
eurosaint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
For an hour we acquitted ourselves very well, both Mills and Dickson provided good width in midfield, Butterfield and Harding pushed forward, Barnard was outstanding and Connolly looked sharp ! As soon as the changes were made, Reading came into the game but it is understandable why this was done as there was no point to overstretch people like Jaidi, Fonte. Barnard, Connolly etc.. The result was probably sacrificed, but actually it was a good runout and will hopefully prove to be beneficial in the long run !!
