Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?
eurosaint replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Ok, I'll take you seriously : "Having considered this debate from both sides, do you still take the view that 'blame' needs to be apportioned for the lack of transfer activity in this close season so far" ? -
Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?

This is more than likely true ! "How do you see our prospects in the next couple of seasons"? Having been asked the question by various media bods, they basically had 3 options for reply : 1) We'll be happy to stave off relegation ! 2) We'd be happy with a mid table position ! 3) We are aiming high and a European place is a possibility ! Clearly they answered no.3 Had they chosen nos.1 or 2 the fan reaction would have been savage, 'no ambition' etc, etc.. you can just imagine the usual suspects on here having a field day ! My opinion is that we are more likely to be mid-table rather than top 6 and I guess that most supporters would have a similar expectation level but the management team had little option to respond in the way that they did ! -

Did you seriously think that a thread with the title "Who is to blame for the transfer inactivity" would not incite the sort of reaction it has ? Many people do not buy into the 'blame culture' especially as in this case there is nothing to be blamed for ! I often wonder what the players, management and staff would think of all this tosh should they read it ? I imagine that they would consider whether all their efforts were in any way worthwhile ! If you really think that the backroom staff are sitting on their arses doing nothing (the inactivity of which you mention!) then you are sadly out of touch ! Why not take pride in the achievements of our team/club, get behind them and support the Saints as we move onwards and upwards ? COYS -

Barry Sanchez, Dalek 2003, Glasgow Saint, Alpine_Saint and Unbelievable Jeff ! Apologies if I've left anyone off the list but these are the ones who immediately spring to mind ! Logic dictates that I must be a 'happy clapper' as I genuinely believe that the club has done well in the last few years and is still heading in the right direction ! -

Cracking thread this, managed to bring out all the well known arseholes plus even a new one, unbelievable jeff -
In principle I dislike all 'gloryhunters' therefore Man U top my list ! I simply cannot understand why people discard their local team and latch on to a bunch of arrogant 'superstars' just to be associated with so called 'success' ! Gets on my wick, that does !!

Have you ever taken a bird or your Missus or both to watch Saints?

When my wife was expecting our firstborn (8 months gone) she insisted on coming with me to West Ham (we lived in London at that time!) as she was bored and didn't want to spend a Saturday afternoon alone ! We took our places in the away end but just before kick off she felt faint and had to be stretchered off to the medical room with me in tow behind her ! Was advised that she should go home and rest so we missed the match and had to get an expensive taxi back ! Oh, and we lost as well !! Never taken her since ! -

Shall I start a few rumours so that there will be one less factor to consider ?? -
Sounds a good idea to me as he clearly needs competitive playing time and Wigan play some nice stuff !

Fratton Fancy Dan 8:12 PM on 03/08/2013 My concern if things don't "gel"by mid season is we have few options compared to other clubs. Because the FL have curbed our transfer activity we will not be able to wheel and deal even at the limited level of Div 4. We may be stuck with what we have. Not time yet for full on panic though, save that for next week Above is a comment from the News comments section ! Seems that a few still don't get it, eh ??

"Yesterday, all our troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they're here to stay, oh we believe in yesterday.." "Guy said we'd be strong, he was wrong, we didn't play... ( need some help to finish the song, am sure that you nutjobs can help ?)

I worked in retail for many years and have had experience in most European countries (admittedly not food!) and have been privvy to many surveys, reports, reviews and statistics ! I can tell you that the UK has the highest customer loyalty per single retail outlet rating of any country bar none ie. "I shop at John Lewis and Waitrose but would never set foot in Lidl" ! Compared to Germany where you regularly find people who buy suits at Hugo Boss and champagne at Aldi without batting an eyelid ! The bottom line is that we Brits are the most class conscious shoppers in Europe ! I do detect that things are slowly changing here though, that more people are becoming open minded and selective in their shopping habits and personally I welcome that !

Can't see the point of expansion at the moment as they were bound to get a full house in the first match anyway (Oxford have sold out the away end too!) owing to the 'feelgood factor' etc.. Sensible business people would surely let things settle and take a mean average after say, 3 to 6 months, rather than have a kneejerk reaction to what is (probably) an exceptional set of circumstances ! I really will wet my pants if they lose their first 3 or 4 matches

Difficult to generalise when you meet people once for only a short time, I met ken Bates once and actually thought that he was a nice guy ! Bet that comes as a shock to most !!

Interesting that we are playing Barnard, Martin, Tadanari, Sharp and De Ridder in the development team this week ! For players seemingly on the way out, they must be costing a fair whack, probably even more than the ones you have mentioned ! Swings and roundabouts really, but perhaps it is the biggest reason why clubs leave new signings as late as possible before the start of the season ?

I consider FIFA to be rotten to the core and (for me!) the Qatar decision confirms this, sure new regions around the globe deserve a chance but can someone please tell me why the Australian bid was less appealing than a tiny country with 50 degree temperatures in summer ?? Regarding the Japan/Uruguay friendly though, why is FIFA being blamed for this ? Did they insist that it was played or (more likely IMO) did they just give the go-ahead at the request of the two countries ? Surely if Poch has an issue it should be with the two national associations and not FIFA in this case ??

PRE-SEASON: Southampton vs Beşiktaş - (17:30 BST)
eurosaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
No surprise for me, face to face you will normally find common ground, body language plays a huge part in conversation as opposed to web forums where context is easily lost and opinions become quickly entrenched making confrontation almost inevitable ! Personally I think that Alps has conducted himself well during this period (with Saints on his doorstep!) and good on him for that !
