You gotta love British defence procurement...
dubai_phil replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Lounge
Thought about this thread when I read that yesterday. And then found this one today http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/9259179/Defence-Secretary-to-re-examine-air-tankers-contract-over-100m-overspend-claims.html -
But let's face it, hasn't that always been the case in almost every sector of life in the UK? From Border Agency to Banks to the giants of old time British Manufacturing. Ho hum. In this particular case that would be a very very sad outcome

Hmmm.... When you put it like that -
Yeh it takes some time to get your head around it. We all know the maths 50 mil in our first year back up of 40 mil parachutes etc, so to talk about spending 152 mil in 3 years (IF we stay up that long) would STILL show Income of 150mil PLUS parachute back up of 40 mil - a nice 20% gross profit retained each year (which is a hell of a lot better than the numbers we had back in L1) I don't think we are in Kansas Toto. Also, I have a sneaky feeling that we may just keep finding some potential gems at the Jack Cork Tadanari Lee price levels in amongst the odd "finally we broke the Delap Millstone" spending

Dear other PL team fans who may now be browsing this forum. Unfortunately as we have been away for some 7 years now you will not have any experience of how many in jokes we have developed in that time. Quite a few of our new found friends we have made on our really enjoyable travels around the country have understood and joined in. However, before you all go and rush off and assume we have already booked a Boat Cruise to celebrate our qualification for the Champions League next season you REALLY should go and read a few more threads first. Thanks for popping by and don't worry, soon even you will understand The Nuns -
Sometimes TSW is like one of those Nat Geo Fishing programmes. You bait your hook, cast your line and bring in a whopper So it IS Demba Ba then
-
Hence the 4 letters that spelt the word SANE I obviously was using that word to exclude the collector of young kids who still has a full time job in the PL in North London who does not have a twitch and may not have once upon a time been a 70's Glam Rock star
-
OK so where DID HTC come from in that market? Did they do something different from all the others or were they lucky they had a crop of talented youngsters or just spent a zillion a year from year one?
-
FFS. AGAIN, NOBODY who is sane pays a Transfer fee UP FRONT. They are spread over 2, 3 or even sometimes 4 years

Question. IF NC stays with us, and IF the Liebherr family stays on for the ride, where do you think we will be in 10 years time? Many are comparing us to Stoke. Just remember that they were promoted in 2008 They have already played in the Europa League. (Note to nutters, I am STILL not saying we will be in the CL ANY time soon & certainly not in 5 years. I just maintain that a vision of AIMING for that ONE DAY instead of a Lowe style survive and pay a dividend until eternity is where we now are)
-
I was able to drink on the bench when managing the TSW all stars a few years ago (thanks to some sympathetic fans of course)

Rubbish. Everyone knows we'll finish in fourth place. Just ahead of a declining Man Ure. -
Don't mention phones on TSW FFS. You'll upset CBF & Turkish

Dude, if you'd been here last weekend you could have had a lift home from Sandance (Travis, Zane Lowe & Fatboy Slim with me & Eric. We are so sure that's how we got home)

Simon Cowell is SO totally screwed. Every Generation seems to turn out a true Musical Legend, a Billie Holiday, a Sam Cooke or James Brown. Every year reality talent shows turn out a bunch of big selling pop stars. But, somehow, this year is it REALLY possible that a talent show could possibly have found two new legends? D_P "Holy Krap I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before on TV" Steve Tyler (who's way older than me) 30 seconds later - "I've never seen anything like that". Yeah I know people either love or hate reality shows. But tonight this kid did this on global television to a James Brown song about 20 minutes ago. The hairs are still standing up on the back of my neck I am so gonna find the you tube link to "It's a Man's World" by Joshua. http://www.americanidol.com/videos/season_11/performances/ [h=3]Joshua Ledet: It's A Man's Man's Man's World[/h] Joshua Ledet performs "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown at the Top 4 performance show. If you haven't been following and don't like talent shows - just do yourself a favour take 3 minutes out to follow the tricky links and watch and listen to this

Rolla Residence Bur Dubai??? Oops that'll be fun (Nice rooms used them a lot for visitors back in the days) MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO! AFTER IMMIGRATION and BEFORE leaving the Baggage Hall - Go to Dubai Duty Free and buy BEER and any other BOOZE you want for your 4 days. You will NOT be able to buy it in a shop so you can't have a couple of tinnies in your room! Directly opposite is Imperial Suites Hotel and (I think Staying Alive) Nightclub entrance to the left of the hotel entrance - probably the second biggest HOOKER BAR in Dubai!. One of my mates knew the club manager from yonks ago in his Dj days so we go there on annual bad taste tours. It's a laugh but the Legendary Seaview Hotel is only 5 minutes away with Mariners Bar and THE Filipino Band. (Note most of us go to those places but NEVER bother with a Chinese Takeaway, Apart from the fact that you need another one 20 minutes later, Rolla are a "Family" oriented place so UNLESS you have booked a DOUBLE room (at extra cost) you will not get any guests past security) 7 Star Hotel - Burj Al Arab. You HAVE to make a reservation at a restaurant and they charge AED 200 (35 quid) straight away on your credit card per person to even get in. You won't get in without an booking there is no "Bar per se" They DO have an amazing Brunch up on the flat wide bit at the top - real OTT Fois Gras, Best Seafood in the world (10 different types of Oysters sort of thing and great wines but you will not get much change from 200 quid a head. Burj Khalifa - Armani hotel downstairs 10 quid for a single Johnny Walker Red Label Prive Club - that's where some Russian Dude ran up $200,000 CHampagne bill on New Year's Eve. FAR better for a mere mortal is Nero's on about 35th Floor of the Address Downtwon (note NOT Address Dubai Mall) Nice cocktails for a tenner and a stunning view of the Burj AND Dubai Fountain. You MUST do Desert Safari Bad Taste Tour of one of Staying Alive, Yorke Hotel or because the music is REALLY good Mariners Skiing in Mall of the Emirates Gold Soukh (The proper old one in Deira not the new fangled in door rubbish) And you simply MUST have a Chicken Handi, Mixed Grill and Roti at Ravis Palace restaurant in Satwa (10 quid for two best damned food (curry) on the planet) As you're too tight to pay a fiver go find Dubai Saints on Facebook and ping a message, One of us lot will pick it up and be happy to help with more info
