  1. Field of Dreams was on last night, ah a feel good movie Battle in Seattle was on tonight. Goddamn that is a "shocking" movie if like me you were one of those who wondered what the Tree Huggers were on about at the time. The fictionalisation and invention of characters and sub plots to pad it out aren't really needed but they give the film a lot more impact and make it seem much more brutal. Ain't turned me into a Tree Hugger but I see the point now, strange a movie gets their point across so much better than smashing shop windows or as in later years setting yourself on fire or suicide did.
  2. Took my kids there when we were all younger, when they first get there they see grubby lumps of concrete and cannot understand why the grwon ups want to stop and get them to read plaques or just look. And then after a museum or the remains of the Mulberry Harbour and the visit to a Cemetry it sinks in, they get it and want to see more. That was as humbling as the "atmosphere" that the area can invoke. A very good programmme this evening on The History Channel about the Mulberry Harbour, the role played by the DUKW's and all the rest. Amazing to think that they built that in 9 months, kept it secret. towed it across the channel and it was up and working to unload the Tanks and supplies in a very short space of time. My youngest was born on 6th June. Sometimes I remember it is D-Day and (thank heavens) remember to ping off an email across the oceans. Some times I remember it's his birthday and can then have a small reflection on what those people achieved over 60 years ago. Everyone should try and visit just once
  3. That's really freaky, last night the movie channel showed The Mystery Men which must be the World's worst ever Super Hero Movie. I discovered I have an amazing ability to be able to press a reluctant TV remote control button. (BTW Ron, better cut back on the fresh summer mushrooms from the local forest until you develop X-Ray vision to pick the right ones)
  4. Oh, and Dune stop with the GCSE failed attempts at economics. If you want to compare the costings then you need to add in the following - The Labour to place the ticket in the envelope. The 1/50th cost per individual game (inc cup matches) of buying, installing and maintaining the IT systems that you then access to place your order, the cost of consumables for the printers, you SEEN the cost of Toner Cartridges? the cost of outsourcing the Call Centre, one phone call of 10 minutes is 1/10th of a minimum wage so that doubles your figures immediately The cost of electricity, insurance, office furniture etc that the staff use to man to ticket office. etc etc etc etc etc etc So, you have a valid point, but you demean yourself with economics that Unite would try and use
  5. It will be interesting... The ticket office is a Cost to the business. On many occassions last season the ticket office was caught out as they did not have enough staff to cope with big games and walk ups. (How many pages did the JPT ticket mix ups run to?) Away games are a pure COST to the club - Home teams keep all gate receipts rule (unless it has changed) so a Business Manager has decided to do something about those costs by charging a fee. From a BUSINESS perspective this makes sound sense, but from a MARKETING & PR perspective it has raised valid alarm bells. Now this is all well and good from a Business perspective, HOWEVER the really critical point on this (and with Catering) is that the money SHOULD be invested to IMPROVE THE SERVICE. So if that means it pays for an extra employee or two to make the ticket office nearer to perfection THEN it can be justified. Likewise the Catering IF they put up the costs AND you can actually get a decent pint or burger at HT THEN it will be worth it. Judgement on this will come down to that simple mantra and will give us a very clear insight into our future. IF service improves then the increases are valid and justified, BUT if service levels stay the same or WORSE decline then it will tell us a great deal about NC.
  6. Well, that's no bloody good, we'll need it in the Concourses, I'm not going round someone's house for a pint before a game
  7. The main Saints forum at the moment.... The Pompey Thread....... Superbad Airplane Have I got News for You (sometimes) And none of the US sitcoms
  8. Or they could make 4 stripes
  9. Dear oh dear. FFS it is still less than 12 months since the ONLY thing standing between Saints and oblivion was LLS & Pinnacle. FWIW NC has been analysed to death, he is a nasty piece of work, but he is OUR nasty piece of work and to be perfectly honest thank GOD he is around. IF he screws up then ML will be the one to remove him, NOT a couple of Cyber Warriors I think he has made a bad call on the ST's but then we already know he is a "****" and WE, yes WE made it impossible for him to sack AP and yet we are in uproar because he decided to take some spiteful revenge. I don't give a sh1t about NC, as long as HE gets the structure in place to get us back to the CCC next season and then gets us challenging for the PL. But IF his ego/nastiness or whatever starts making stupid decisions that affect us on the pitch and stop us being L1 champions.... But it won't so right now NC I love you and your business plan is brilliant
  10. Despite the flights coming down my tickets will just be empty spaces I'm afraid. Gutted to miss my first WC in 12 years but I refuse to pay the rip off prices the airlines Car Hire & Hotels want. For the cost of a trip to Port Elizabeth I can have 3 x 2 week vacations this year or pay for an HD system and subscription to 1,976 English speaking Satellite channels for a whole year. Hope many of the rip off crew go bust, I'll be in the pub
  11. Solid team IF the coach can get them organised they will have the chance to go as far as England. But hopefully not in the first game
  12. Will this be King's moment? IF he plays to his club form then he will be a better choice than Rio who has been off the pace all year and so this could be good news. But if we lst another CB - Upson or Carragher against anyone other than a barn door - ouch
  13. It's entertaining that Corp Lo uses the sugar daddy as an attempt to say "you're doing the same" for someone who is supposed to have access to this site he is incredibly myopic. He obviously failed to see the posts/threads.public questions askeing HOW we are funded by ML. He obviously failed to see the threads about the increased costs of Season Tickets next year. he obviously failed to see the raging argument about the lack of a payment plan for Season Tickets. All of which you would expect to see from a club determined to be run minimising ANY excess costs and NOT pandering to the fans. Hell we're almost rioting on the other pages. Oh and Nickh - Champers next time I'm back matey  one more day to go but it can be put in the fridge
  14. Hmmm Now THERE is an idea..... If Bangkok doesn't quieten down in time for New Year how to convince a Polish GF she'd enjoy the NYD Test Match instead
  15. Goodfellas Jay, now there was a nice bloke. Until he went to The Seaview one night
  16. hehehe at the last page of posts, Can you hear the music from Jaws yet you delusioned Skates? (Not the brighter ones BTW) Meanwhile I think I know why the Al Fahim deal fell apart, obviously Storrie DIDN'T take Al Fahim to The Seaview to close the deal. May I suggest to anyone else wanting to close multi-million deals that you add that place to the top of your list... (A couple of regulars will know what I just posted and the answer is Oh Yes :-) )
  17. Wow, thanks for that, you used to be a seriously good photographer. I guess this makes you our oldest poster then. Well done
  18. Hooray at last IT's HERE! Yes, finally the return of a thread with ITK's. Oh how we've missed these for the past year or so. God bless 'em every one. Oh & I like the kit Not because I have seen it but because it will remembered fondly as having been worn by the L1 Champions next season.
  19. RIP Mary, may you and your beloved be re-united and I hope that you can look down happily upon us as we move back to where you both took us all those years ago
  20. Strangely I would have typed the same but the GF is in the room & I would have got a severe slap across the back of the head. But yes +1
  21. I did have some smirks while I was back home last week. Only one of those we have had here was the Messi Meerkats one, the Uberfans will wonder why I posted this but for us nutters abroad
  22. Clarinase or Claritine. Never had Hayfever, nobody in the family ever had Hayfever. Son returned to Uni in the UK 4 years ago after being in Dubai 11 years, WAHOO, suffered all year around - your British air is TOXIC. I came back last week and WAHOO. My system is so used to dust and sand the pollen hit me and wham. Luckily I learnt about Clarinase from my old Scuba diving days and always carry it with me when I travel - one tab and gone. Works the same way for Winter runny nose colds and what we call A/C flu. Son on his first trip back home after Uni stocked up with a year's supply of Claritine and whoosh, gone. I have No idea if it is prescription only in the UK but worth checking it out, Clarinase is about 3.50 a packet here
  23. The 32 posts on this page so far show simply and clearly why this issue can never be resolved. Everybody has a valid opinion, everybody is entrenched in "the rights or wrongs of the CURRENT position" The Israelis will NEVER have peace as long as they occupy lands claimed by the Arabs. The Arabs will never be at peace while the Israelis treat them as second class citizens and pull stunts like the invasion of Gaza. Seeking JUSTIFICATION for each set of problems is why it fails. The SIMPLE fact is that TWO sets of people wish to live in the same place. Each set is mutually exclusive. One set all die or one set all live, it will NEVER stop. UNLESS both sides accept that each has the right to exist and each side agree to an equitable sharing out of the available land, natural resources and security. Two states in one = failure. One or the other will eventually be wiped off the face of this planet, and unless pro-Israelis like Gingerletiss or Pro-Arabs (in this example nickh) understand this and try and argue for ONE side you are adding fuel to the fire. And trust me WHEN it finally goes up, every damned one of us and our kids will be paying for it with the revenge attacks world wide. There IS a solution it is - STFU the lot of you and divide the place up Which is why World War 3 has crept up on you and why you get blown up on the Underground
  24. Only wheeling out I'll ever accept is to a taxi from the Seaview
