Right now, I'd swop all the success we've had recently for a bit of old fashioned loyalty. A word that doesn't really exist beyond the stands in modern football. The only way to achieve this at our club is for a Matt & Franny management dream team. We'd probably be Championship but I'd personally take that over the annual harvest of players, managers and staff that use Saints as nothing more than a stepping stone. I did say that during les's koeman interview that he seemed more edgy than his normal calm persona. Most assumed his comment about three managers buying into saints system seemed to be a dig at pardew, but my thoughts were of the time last year when Ron openly criticized the quality of our development squad and that's a direct pop at all les has been working towards since he. And to saints. I don't think we'd ever see 50% home grown players under koeman and, despite how unrealistic this dream might be in the upper reaches of the premier league, I think it's something that's important to Southampton FC. I think that buy/develop success might be the reason saints might be thinking of letting him move and showing him in what might be a more different light to the one most fans see? Just an opinion!

I watched it three times now, hoping to pick up the optimistic vibes that seem to be the general consensus on here regarding the interview. My take, is that its unusually poorly edited from a top notch media dept. Indicating a rush job, why? While Les has always been a bit of a waffler, I don't recall so much stuttering during his replies, his eyes seldom making eye contact with the interviewer, like e's more uncomfortable than usual. Maybe indicating he's really trying to phrase his answers, or trying to word them too cautiously? He used expressions such as "Ronald's already come out and said" as if he/the club didn't necessarily agree with the way that Ron's massaged the timing and that they would of liked it done more in the clubs time/pace and without any media attention, its probably cost them a few quid, feeling like they now have to tie him down as he's said its down to the clubs ambition. In conclusion, my take was that they are looking to sign an extension, but maybe theres not as much love behind the scenes as we would all like to believe. All IMHO of course!

How does a club try to convince a top player, mane for example, to sign a new contract when the manager won't? If the managers on the fence then either the players you want to keep will follow suit or look to move. The manager signs a new contract and you've got a much stronger argument to pitch to the players.
