I've been watching some of the Scotland game. Che Adams seems to be playing really well.

Looking at the fixture list they have Ilminster away in the next round. I always thought I knew most places in the UK but that's one I'd never heard of (turns out it's near Yeovil)

Didn't really know where else to post it, but this advert on Leicester's Instagram must be going down a storm with their traditional fans.

Which 90s band are you regretting the last 25-30 years over?

Portishead played the Guildhall on the Dummy tour, that one wasn't actually too bad sound wise. I walked out of a Zero 7 gig there once because it was so bad. It's still shit. Saw Fontaines there a few weeks back and the sound wasn't up to much, speakers are still the same ones they probably had in 1992! You're in a good spot there. I tend to favour Brighton for bigger stuff which isn't too far. It's especially good if it's a weekend gig as it's an excuse to wander around the city. Going there in a few weeks to see Little Simz which I'm very much looking forward to. -

Brudenell gets loads of good gigs. It's on the same circuit for bands as the Joiners. Purple Turtle is still going in Reading but doesn't have much going on now. Most of the decent stuff is at Sub89. Have to say Southampton is absolutely great for gigs now. The past few years we have had a glut of quality bands playing at Joiners, Heartbreakers and a few other venues. We obviously don't get as much traffic as some of the bigger cities and still painfully lack a decent bigger venue because the Guildhall is shit, but the promotors here are really on their game now. -

Hahaha. Some of those West Country events were a bit sketchy. I had a mate at Uni who came from Teignmouth so we went to a couple of free parties around there which were interesting although I don't recall seeing any blood! -
A 1-0 away win at Wycombe today. That's 4 games without defeat now which can only mean this is the start of their unstoppable march back towards the Premier League where their magnificent fan base deserve to be.

Sorry for spamming this thread, hadn't looked at it for a couple of days and got a bit excited. -

In general they don't but if you go into record shops now there a lot of youngsters which is good to see. It's not just sad old blokes in their mid-40's like me. -

I saw Chemical Brothers and Prodigy back to back in a pretty small tent at Phoenix Festival just about the time Firestarter came out. It was absolute carnage. -

I remember seeing Eat Static play in Salisbury once which seems very random now. Once walked for about an hour through chronic mud at Glastonbury to see Banco de Gaia only to find the stage they were meant to be playing on had sunk! -

I've seen all of them at some point. I was really into Warp stuff like Autechre and B12 and the minimal Detroit stuff. Went to loads of the early Big Chill festivals seeing bands like Biosphere, Higher Intelligence Agency, Global Communication etc. Did you ever go to any Megadog events? They were great fun. -
You have to wonder how he got a pro contract at Spurs in the first place. He was 21 when we got him so he must have had at least 1 contract from them after graduating from the youth set up. The whole thing is really bizarre. I must be one of the only people who has seen all 3 of the terrible trio play for a Saints team. I was at Dia's game, saw Forecast let in 3 in 10 minutes in a friendly against Eastleigh and watched Pulis wander around the centre circle when the reserves played Havant once.

Sundays, Chapterhouse, My Bloody Valentine. Loveless was what, 91? A monster of an album that still hugely influences bands now, check out someone like Just Mustard to see that. There's a reasonable shoegaze scene at the moment which I enjoy. Saw a band called White Flowers at the Joiners last week who I really like. Cure were a bit hit and miss in the 90's but still one of the best bands ever. Their gigs are just stuffed full of hits for nearly 3 hours. Not many bands can pull that off. I was 14 in 1990 so right at the age for the American grunge era. Remember listening to Ten by Pearl Jam on my walkman on the school bus and it blowing my mind. -

St Etienne's new album is lovely. Really recommend that if you haven't heard it. -

Agree about Stevie Wonder in the 80's. I think a lot of people got overexcited with the new production techniques and equipment that became available and overused it. Obviously with straight out guitar music there's only a certain number of chords and some bands do end recording music that sounds similar to older bands. I guess it depends if you are happy with what you already know, but I love music too much not to keep looking for new artists and music that grabs me and there's some seriously incredible stuff out there. If anything I'd say that we are living in the golden age of music now. There's multiple genres, a huge amount of equipment that's constantly improving plus the availability of the internet to get that music out there. -
Pretty sure the price was a bit lower than some expected because they gave us a crap load of it up front rather than in installments. Seem to remember that being a thing at the time.

Not sure why but I thought all the B games were still being played at Staplewood. Will have a look at the list and see if I can watch some.

How many of the thousands and thousands of bands and artists that have been making music since that time have you heard to make that sort of sweeping generalisation? I spend a lot of time seeking out new stuff and I feel that I barely scratched the surface. Almost every day I'm turned onto something I've never heard of that sounds great so I find your statement somewhat bizarre. -

Oh totally. As a fan of the music that influenced them I remember loving it and having many discussions with the fans of their older music about how great I thought it was. Went to see them in Oxford on that tour and people were arguing in the crowd about Kid A. -

Radiohead by a mile are the best band of that generation. I love the way they changed their style and carried on making great music. Never liked Suede, can't stand Oasis. Blur were ok but I don't own any of their albums. Pulp were interesting but I never really listened to them. I didn't care much for indie in the 90's, was mostly into electronic stuff like Aphex Twin and still am. Of the bands from that time I really liked I'd be looking at Massive Attack, Mezzanine is one of my favourite albums of that decade, plus Super Furry Animals and also PJ Harvey. She's pretty damn amazing. -
Yes it's only clips but he looks like he has the lot, especially going forward. Pace, power, technique. Puts in a good cross too. I'd love to see him play live just to get a sense of what the other side of his game is like. Might have to wait a couple of months until the FA Cup unless they put any U23 games on at St Mary's.

Excellent result. They had a decent side out by all accounts.

I don't really care much for international football and probably won't watch much of the games. In fact I don't even know when England are playing. The only good thing about it is having a free time to watch some non-league games.
