I do think people are being a bit harsh on the footballers, imagine the backlash if Kane got a yellow for the armband and then another for a late tackle in the 10th minute. They are walking a tight rope between sets of fans who want them to show solidarity and those that don't want anything to do with it. They have to represent all.

You seem to agree that an axe to beurocracy isn't what's required, it's the beurocracy that helps run the show. It's these over simplistic ideas that gain hold and get us into a mess. There's always fat that can be cut from a large organisation, but the fact is that the NHS consistently ranks in the top ten in the world for efficiency and is high in outcomes. The US consistently ranks 30+ places below the UK for efficiency with worse outcomes. A single provider has good buying power and that is why the US health players would live to break the NHS up.
-
So you've gone from believing one simple solution, which has failed. To believing another. To provide proper healthcare you need more than just clinicians, you need maintenance, cleaners, security, lab technicians, drivers, medical record clerks..... they all need managing, which is the bureaucracy that some people rail against. The biggest issue in the NHS is the lack of training during the Tory years. But hey lets get rid of managers and get the nurses to waste hours of their day ordering supplies, monitoring the cleaning and managing the reroofing on the hospital.

And 'I'm not going to not lie', the linguistic equivalent of taking a date to Nandos.

The Elon is a genius crowd are trying to spot the brilliance in his twitters moves, where it's just good old fashion cost cutting, just more showy and chaotic. Surley for 44bn he could have built his own twitter from the ground up.

It's pleasing that there is now a developing consenus that brexit was a big mistake. Understanding the problem is the first step to solving it.
-
Can we blame Brexit yet.

The chicken shops of London are doing a geat job keeping their price rises to a minimum.

Johnson's references to oven ready deals was, surprise surprise, bullshit. There were never any pre-agreed deals He was talking about stuff written by the swivels at Tufton Street that would form part on the UKs offer in deal negotiations.

If brexit was promoted as giving us back our sovereignty and it will only benefit rich people and truckers. I guess not many people would have voted for it.

The NJ era started a shit as I thought in would.
-
Being on the negative point of view isn't not supporting the club. No one is booing at games, waving white hankies or climbing motorway gantries, they are just expressing their opinion on social media. It has little to no impact. 99% of people who don't think NJ is a good appointment will still be right behind the team/club....at the moment.
-
What a shit week, Nathan Jones in and JWP out of the WC squad.

I was talking generally about data crunching and moneyball, not specifically about NJ. As I said it has value in finding players but does it when looking for a manager. Surley all the metrics that you need to assess a manager are visible to everyone. The point being, putting faith in a decision of choosing a manager because the decision maker is good at finding players may be misplaced.
-
I would have thought that most managers start out wanting to do a good job.
-
I am probably clueless here, but I understand how data crunching can find under valued players or players that have certain traints. But I can't see how it can identify an under valued manager.

Fair enough regarding the welcome bit. I did say it feels like a Wigley sized disaster rather than Wigley type disaster. I agree their management experience is different. But it is a gamble of the same proportion. Having his level of management experience and one promotion (although you could argue its two) isn't normally enough to secure a prem job.
-
This isn't a welcome thread, it's a Nathan Jones has signed thread, if you want to start a lovely thread that NJ is never going read then fill your boots. This feels like a Wigley sized disaster, I hope it's not but I have very little confidence.

Not unhappy and not unsad about the decision. I wish it could have workout for him and us, but we were too inconsistent and the defence was too often a problem. We got to the corner a few times but could never go around it. I wish him well and I look forward to see what the next guy can deliver.

We weren't unlucky today, the defending was a shambles at tilmes. Send AMN back to Arsenal, not good enough, summed up by a moment just after the first goal. Newcastle had a one-two on the edge of the box, he didn't track the runner at all and they got a decent cross in. That's all about lack of effort and personal responsibility, which is unforgivable in the prem. -
Easy 1. Caramel cup =2. All the others 12. Toffee penny
-
Or leave them for the fat dad to have at the end.
-
When at the end of the game someone goes to the far goal to pick up their mid game discarded sweatshirt and leaves the other one or two there.
