The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
buctootim replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
There is one school of thought that Johnson wants / needs someone to force him to change direction into CU / SM. He tried to bluster with the EU and when that didnt work he provoked the MPs. He doesn't care who as long as he can 'show' he tried and 'its not my fault guv'. That way he has delivered on Brexit and still gets to be PM. Pity about Ruth Davidson and many of the sensible Tories who are standing down at the next election. If they are replaced by more headbangers the Tories will be in real trouble long term. -
My GF complaining about the car being hot after she has shut off the aircon vents because of cold air in her face.
-
Nice to see you admit that the consequence of leaving the single market and customs union is a hard border and Johnson's promise to keep it open is horse****. He'll have to break one of his promises so who do you think he'll sell out?
-
Who's getting copy?!

Not true anymore. the majority of loyalists over nationalists in NI is much less than it used to be. If a hard Brexit was a disaster its likely there would a majority for unification even in NI.
-
The subtext of my point is that some kind of "alternative arrangements" based on trusted trader and technology wont work because even in unified customs union there were still some opportunities for smuggling. Increase the differentials and you'll increase the smuggling. A truck carrying boxes barcoded as Kerrygold wont be.
-
Most loyalists voted remain and anyway care more about the economy and peace. I doubt there would be much unrest following a unification referendum.
-
Cross border smuggling of red / green diesel largely funded the IRA. Changing tariffs and therefore prices on the two sides of the border will create a whole new range of opportunities for smuggling, increasing the flow into their coffers.
-
Exactly. She simply deftly handed responsibility for the Frankenstein turkey back to him.
-
It’s just a blame game. The government has made three incompatible commitments- to leave the customs union, have different tariffs and standards to the EU and keep the Irish border open. Johnson is trying to blame the EU for the consequences of that that rather than admit he’s promised a unicorn. What he’ll do is claim there is a technology based alternative which everyone with even a little knowledge knows is a lie. He’s banking on the headbangers believing him rather than the EU.

Not all of Sinn Fein. The Republican movement in the 1930s and 40s was a very mixed bag of politics united only by a desire for independence. A useful parallel is Brexit - they might agree on leaving but not on much else.

Bit of an over reaction. It was probably just one of those used for paintballing, music gigs etc. Weighs next to nothing, isnt hot, totally harmless. https://store.enolagaye.com/p/wire-pull-smoke-grenade-wp40/?attribute_pa_colour=green&gclid=CjwKCAjw7uPqBRBlEiwAYDsr10b_7NsWaTZ9HpxCxO9yhYjyR5PnWVVD7AYnLuQ8SN4rVz209dqwexoCH3sQAvD_BwE

What happens if you're proved wrong and you're kicked out of Portugal and they seize your house because Boris refused to pay the £39bn we owe? Not that they would, the EU are less neanderthal than us. Personally I wish they would kick you out and make residency / home ownership only available to EU residents. I see no reason why you as a Brexit voter should get a better deal than my kids who will be denied the same rights

That’s not new Nick. Most climate scientists accept that we would be in a cool period or even starting a mini ice age by now if it weren’t for carbon emissions. The fact that the world is warming even as it should be cooling is more alarming not less

Well she’s American born and bred, so even with Trump fanboy logic, that would be tricky. Would be easier to send you back to Pompey, you already know the culture and fit right in. That or some country that’s on the edge of bankruptcy.

Individual states vary greatly and the only two states where I have personal experience of guns are Minnesota and Florida. In Minnesota you can walk in and buy a rifle off the shelf although you do need a permit for a handgun. Ammunition is right there on the shelves next to the fishing gear in local Walmarts. Florida have pretty much no restrictions of any kind. You can buy guns, including handguns, assault rifles and 50 cal sniper rifles with no checks whatsoever.
-
Its pretty basic - but you should not only need a licence to own a gun but also purchase ammunition. In some (most? all?) states you can load up your cart with shotgun shells and magnum 357s and pay at the checkout along with your Cheetos.

Not quite as toe curlingly pretentious as the names he gave his kids - Marmaduke Mickey Percy Grylls and Huckleberry Edward Jocelyne Grylls What a ****ing tosser. Sadistic one at that.

The Tories are already a minority propped up only by 10 DUP votes secured by a bribe -

Exactly -
The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

The great Boris no deal plan is now revealed. ‘Leave’ but stay in the customs union and single market for two years whilst we negotiate a trade agreement. Inevitably the two years will be extended. So everything stays the same except we don’t have any say anymore and our reputation as a safe place to do business has been destroyed for nothing. What an wffing waste. -
Does getting into Lg1 count as global force ?

I've never been to Blackpool. Is it as grim as it looks?

Jo Swinson (and the Death of the Liberal Party)

I don't mind Swinson but she's still a bit raw and naive. It would have been better for remain if Cable had stayed on another six months.
