Its also the problem with an entirely rules based system opposed to one with measure of discretion. One case study talked about a sight impaired man receiving benefits whose eyesight worsened so he became registered blind and entitled to more money. His existing benefit was stopped and it was 8 weeks before the new one was processed. Even though the money was backdated it caused him real problems in the meantime. Its stupid avoidable issues like that which need addressing.

If there is only a finite amount of money in the economy how will demand go up leading to inflation? How can companies lose business to competitors who charge more? By providing better quality, Im surprised you didnt know that. Example. Say Burger King charge £6 for its Bacon Double Cheeseburger meal and greasy formica table. Pizza Express charge £9 for a pizza where you waitress service and a gerbera on the table but of course its 50% more. Some people will think its worth it and some will take the cheaper option Of BKs £6 £3 is staff wages at minimum wage rates, £1 ingredients and £2 for rates, equipment, utilities etc. Pizza Express pay £5 in wages £2 in ingredients and the same £2 for rates utilities etc. If you raise the wages component for BK to £5 and everything else stays the same their burger becomes £8 and the Pizza only £1 more - a much better value proposition. Pizza Express gain trade and Burger King lose plus welfare claims go down and tax receipts go up because you've raised wages by 60% - so you can afford to cut employers NI contributions. Better than screwing 20% of the population to the floor wouldnt you say?

What you mean is that companies currently paying minimum wage will lose business to their competitors who are currently more expensive because they pay better. I wont lose any sleep over Burger king losing market share to Pizza Express because their price differential has narrowed. Allowing a race to the bottom maintains people on poverty wages destroys jobs, increases welfare demands and reduces tax take. You've contradicted yourself. First you say higher wages wont create anymore wealth and then you say they will create inflation. Which is it? Will it increase demand or not?

Im sure they'll have no trouble upgrading to a top coach. The professional way this was handled will make it clear that poor results were entirely down to McGloughlin and competent coaches everywhere will relish the opportunity to work under Awford and McInnes.

Not so, you simply move it around as many countries experience with the minimum wage has shown. In fact you tend to retain more money in the country because people on minimum wages tend to spend locally.

Personally I wouldnt. The only part of Copenhagen Ive found I really liked is Nyhavn, which is great for a stroll and a drink but not enough for a trip. If you are planning a longish trip you could also catch a ferry from Stockholm to Gotland which is very historic. The days are short this time of year, but not that short. Late january its about 7.5-8 hours between sunrise and sunset - around 8am - 4pm.

Sure I accept there are some industries / services it wouldn't work for without some kind of government intervention. I suspect that if a £10ph minimum wage were introduced it would save on benefits / bring in new taxes to sufficient extent to be able to create tax breaks for socially oreconomically important ventures.

He does. The encouraging part is that 15 olds who have grown rapidly are usually uncordinated colts whose brain / muscles havent yet worked out how to control those new long limbs. If his ball skillls are good now they'll only improve as he fills out.

Most food goes to people who really need it, but clearly they are open to abuse and it is a very inefficient way of getting money to people in needf. Raise the minimum wage incrementally to £10ph whilst giving tax breaks to employers who export would transform the social conditions of millions whilst cutting the benefits bill and raising tax revenues. Projections show it wont create massive unemployment (though Louisiana Fried Chicken will probably go to the wall, no bad thing) others who pay their staff better already will thrive.

There was an interview with her brother in the Sunday Times. He is a lorry driver, talked about how they were both brought up in council flat and he cant think of any one less snobby. Looks like social media claims another easy target but misses the real villains.

I used to go there a lot around Christmas time (ex was Swedish) and loved it. A few degrees difference in the weather can turn Stockholm from being cold grey and damp into crisp, white, bright and magical. Either way all of these things are well worth doing whatever the weather: http://www.vasamuseet.se/en/ http://www.stampen.se/ http://www.ardbegembassy.se/ http://www.stromma.se/en/Stockholm/The-Archipelago/Day-trips/Archipelago-tour-with-guide (book it with lunch) http://www.stromma.se/en/Stockholm/Sightseeing/Sightseeing-by-boat/Stockholm-Winter-Tour/ http://www.skansen.se/en/kategori/english ps its really not that expensive either. Sure things you are used to being cheap like Macdonalds and beer in bars are expensive but hotels will be far cheaper in January / February than most other capital cities and you can get a great lunch in places like this http://www.bistrobestick.se/ for about the same price as a big mac. imo it doesnt matter if beer is £8 pint if you can get a central 4* hotel on the waterfront for £80pn. You should go to Uppsala too, beautiful old university city about 40 mins by train from Stockholm or about 20 mins from the airport.

Tolerance and not being judgemental is also accepting older people grew up with different norms. My mum still wont talk to Germans because they bombed her school and were responsible for her being evacuated away from her parents an siblings for 18 months. Im not going to challenge her and tell her shes wrong every time I see her and nor should anyone else.

Passenger miles travelled have doubled but ticket prices have trebled, requirement for public subsidy quadrupled and punctuality declined. How on any measure is that a success for privatisation?

So you reckon congestion and car ownership isnt at record levels and the Government hasnt announced a very belated attempt to do something about it?
-
Thats the whole point. Network Rail is the publicly owned body that is responsible for infrastructure. Thats where the big improvements have been. The consistent ****ups - late, overcrowded trains using old stock for sky high prices have been in the private sphere.
-
Because the roads are ****ed? The point is we give the industry four times more public money and have allowed them to triple ticket prices. Even challenged monkeys aka GNER and National Express could make that work - oh actually they couldnt and had to be relived of their duties by a state run company that promptly turned it around and started making big profits for the UK taxpayer. https://fullfact.org/factchecks/taxpayer_subsidy_train_network_nationalisation-3391

Obviously I dont know your particular circumstances, but if house prices in the area you chose to buy in haven't changed for 18 months whilst the rest of the outer metropolitan are has risen by around 17.6%, doesn't that indicate something a bit worrying?
-
Much better, along with most other public spaces. The public subsidy to railways is four times what it was in the days of BR and the capital spend around 10 times. BR was always starved of capital and prevented from generating its own. There is nothing inherently better about private companies running the trains, as numerous ****ups testify. The East coast mainline is a case in point. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/oct/26/east-coast-mainline-why-privatise

Just your nouse then? Nothing to do with across the board house price inflation in an under supplied market, especially in the London TWA then? Righto. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/houseprices/10428918/House-prices-to-soar-in-Londons-commuter-belt.html
