You are overrating Bednarek & Stephens. They are fine, but we really could do with better. Starting next season with them both is fine, whilst Salisu and perhaps another gets used to Hasenhuttl's tactics and all four can be putting pressure on each other which is healthy for competition.

If Vestergaard is sold we'd be down to 2 senior team centre backs. They'd need four for the season, so two additions required.

Those clubs may only have a passing interest and if they don't make a bid or offer regular gametime then the pathway to Saints is easier. Regarding wanting European football, would he get regular gametime for any of those clubs? He is only 21 years old, and he could use Saints as a stepping stone to such a team in 2 or 3 years time. I would have no issue with that. Better to have extremely promising young players for 2 or 3 years rather than plod along with players the top clubs will never want.

You overlooked this part... "In the same way" Saints are now more willing to go longer and then counterpress with the opposition disorganised high up the pitch.
