Shaw has played nearly 60 Premier League games at the age of 18. Bale didn't have anything remotely close to that experience, he played for us in the Championship and took a long time to break into the Spurs team. Comparing them both at 18, Shaw has significantly more experience and proven at a higher level.

The two players you mention are 3 years older than Shaw! I think you underestimate how good Shaw is for his age, he is the 1st choice left back for a top 8 Premier League team and has a senior England cap at the age of 18. I think he looks more impressive than Bale did at the same stage.

Very rare in modern top level football for a manager to have sole responsibility for transfers. Things are done by transfer committees of CEO's/chairman/head scouts/DOF's/managers.

Let alone next season's TV money, selling Osvaldo and removing Sharp, Forte, Barnard, Hooiveld etc from the wage bill which will fee up money to be used elsewhere. They also should be able to get a better sponsorship deal than they had with aap3.

Illness or injury, who knows...? Maybe a journalist at the press conference will ask a question about the game and find out? You'd think if a journalist was going to a pre-match press conference they'd do some research beforehand, look through the training photos/videos on the Thursday and see who wasn't present and ask questions about it. All they do is ask constant questions about Shaw/Pochettino and then appear surprised when they get the same (lack of) answer week after week.

It normally does indicate they weren't in full training that day. 72 photos is quite a lot for someone not to appear in at all if they were present, even if just in the background.

In the last two seasons since returning to the Premier League Saints have spent... 2012/13 - £37m 2013/14 - £36m Both whilst under the ownership of Katharina Liebherr. Saints don't have to sell Shaw, and are likely to spend in the summer regardless of Shaw going or not. If Shaw goes for £30m that is additional money on top of circa £17m prize money, the huge amount of TV money, sponsorship money etc.

This whole discussion is about if we sell a player for £30m. So yes, if he is sold when we don't need to sell him, then why not spend £8m to 12m on a replacement?

Any other clubs outside those 8 are already behind Saints in terms of player quality (we've already overtaken clubs the size of Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa etc in terms of player quality). Plus left back plays quite a pivotal role in a Pochettino team and its important we get a high quality replacement if Shaw really does leave this summer. It is teams like Newcastle and Everton that Saints will be looking to both overtake and/or stay above in years to come if it is to progress from its current 8th position.

tbf our three fullbacks have similar qualities to wingers and are often found in very advanced positions with midfielders covering them for large parts of the game. Plus Chambers and Shaw both have histories of playing as wingers in their youth careers, I think Clyne may have as well.

I doubt any club looks to stand still, even if Rupert Lowe is in charge. Getting above 8th is extremely difficult but I doubt Saints won't be trying to achieve that.

Why not? If Shaw isn't sold we'd still need to sign a striker and possibly a centre back and keeper in the summer. If Shaw is sold for £30m we'd need a high quality left back. Hard to find someone even at the level slightly below Shaw for under £5m. What is your definition of the top 4?
