The January 2013 HCDAJFU thread...
Matthew Le God replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints

He was the right choice to get Saints out of the Football League, the next level in the Premier League is Cortese's new aim and clearly he doesn't feel Adkins is right for that.
-
Cortese paid for Peter Reid to have a holiday in Barcelona?
-
He was the one that made the training ground and academy status a priority and got it done. Planning permission for Staplewood went in as a League One side and construction started as a Championship side, for a facility that wouldn't look out of place at a Champions League club.
-
And without SMS we would currently be struggling in the Championship or League One. I'm not a Rupert Lowe fan, but give him his credit he improved the club's infrastructure. Many said similar when Cortese sacked Pardew. Give Pochettino a chance.
-
Can add this to the list... Plus category 1 status for the academy. Setting us up for years to come in terms of infrastructure.
-
I mention it because it is a current example of a home crowd over a number of games creating a negative atmosphere and it seemingly effecting the players on the pitch. If we aren't careful the same could happen at St Mary's.
-
How do you know it is damaging to the club? The last time Cortese made a decision to change managers worked didn't it? Do that not allow for some trust in him to make decisions for the long term of the club? You speak of "potential damaging for the club", if a negative home atmosphere leads to Southampton performing poorly in home games like CHelsea are, is that not damaging?
-
"People like me" All I've said is I want the best atmosphere for Saints so they can beat Everton. Negative chanting doesn't help achieve that. It is you advocating creating an atmosphere like Chelsea currently have at home, and they are currently struggling to perform in a negative atmosphere. Fan in wanting his team to win shocker!!!
-
So you are willing to create a negative atmosphere even if it runs the risk of effecting the team not to perform as well as it could if the crowd were behind them? Just look at Chelsea and anti Benitez chants in home games.
-
Ultimately it won't change a thing, but what it might do is make it harder for the team to perform. I'd rather the team do well against Everton, not sure why you would want to do anything that might harm their chances. You only have to look at Chelsea at home in a negative atmosphere with the crowd against Benitez to see what a negative atmosphere can do on the pitch.
-
And what will that achieve apart from a negative atmosphere in an important home game?
-
But is it worth doing that if it risks the team not performing in a volatile atmosphere? Chelsea have struggled with the home fans being negative, is that what you'd like to see at St Mary's?
-
It wasn't just Nigel that left - Andy Crosby, Dean Wilkins and Jim Stannard also went today. That leaves Saints with nothing in the way of senior coaches and Vince Bartram as the development team goalkeeper coach the closest thing we have to a senior keeping coach. With senior goalkeeper coach Jim Stannard going it may leave an opening for the club to let Kelvin Davis have a long term future at Saints as an extra keeper if needed and goalkeeper coach for Boruc, Gazzaniga and Cropper perhaps? I'd guess we'll see a number of Spanish and/or South American coaches join the club soon, but would be nice to involve Kelvin.
-
So you want a Stamford Bridge style atmosphere which affects first team performance in home games? You may not be happy with Adkins sacking, but remember without Cortese/Liebherr we may not have a club or at the very least be in the lower leagues still. Force Cortese out of the club and I'd guess the Liebherr estate would sell up. People were starting similar threads when Pardew was sacked. Cortese made a good decision then, maybe he has this time aswell even if it seems very harsh now. How about we get behind the new manager and don't sing about Adkins or Cortese in order to provide a positive atmosphere for the team to win on Monday vs Everton?
-
No, Corns is thanking them because they are leaving. Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and Stannard are the only ones to leave.

Matthew Le God replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Only Adkins, Crosby, Wilkins and Stannard have left. -
Is what I said not true then?
-
No, I say it because without him we wouldn't be in the Premier League wondering why we sacked a manager. We'd either not exist or still be in the lower leagues. People were like this when Pardew was sacked, Cortese's plan worked then, why rule it out working again so quickly?
-
"An idiot" who helped save the club from oblivion or years in the lower leagues and instead guided the club to the Premier League 3 years after taking charge.
-
The standard of English teachers on Portsea Island is appalling.
-
Ok, "No protesting during the game", plan b?
Matthew Le God replied to UpweySaint's topic in The Saints
We had similar reactions and threads after Pardew was sacked after beating Bristol Rovers away 4-0. I think people are now happy with Cortese's decision aren't they? He now wants to move us onto another level. He could well be right again. What won't help is undermining the new manager during games with chants about the man he replaced or Cortese. The players won't play well in a negative atmosphere. Just look at Chelsea under Benitez at Stamford Bridge. -
It means a video interview and article about the interview will go on the OS and Saints Player later today.
