Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 4-1 Hull City
Charlie Wayman replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
How can you not love them? Now do you believe me that WE are GOING to win this league! -
...but I do understand modern football and its cynicism which is the basis of my earlier commentary and of course you are quite right on all counts but how does one become uninvolved? It's not so easy or indeed agreeable for most fans just to 'walk away' because they don't like what is going on with their club. People don't decide to become fans on the spur of the moment like deciding they fancy a take-away so why not? For most it is a lifetime's emotional involvement instilled in early formative years by well meaning but misguided parents. Even the disenchanted and disenfranchised Man U fans still turn up in green & yellow scarves every other weekend. One suspects the only remedy will be when fans are priced out of the market, the ultimate disrespect that is coming to every club near you soon when many fans will have lost their option to attend games. What would be the point of boycotting Saturday's game? Even if we did it to a "man" (& women) it wouldn't be fair to players who are as much pawns in the game as fans and in any case understand and relate to fans in a way that Clubs long since forgot how. No, we should remain engaged by carrying on supporting our team for the good things it does but make it very obvious to the powers that be when we think they are doing bad things. The FA & Football League should impose multi-year bans on clubs who take the p*ss with their cup competitions and ensure also that winners get a European slot automatically with less gongs on offer to the PL.

There's nothing at all subtle about what we did, it's what all top clubs do but with the rather obvious and laughable difference that we have not yet proven ourselves as a top club! The only hopes we have of winning anything in the short term is to challenge for and win the cups. Parodying the top clubs is so paralytically stupid that we will end up with what we absolutely deserve, SFA! The club may have big ambitions and big ideas but some decision makers are in danger of becoming too big for their boots. We the fans, the true heartbeat of Southampton Football Club would like the glory of actually winning something before the man with the big scythe finds his way to our addresses. Using cup games as a ruse for a training match is disrespectful of us and SFC and brings the whole game into disrepute. It disappoints, frustrates and sickens me in equal measure.

Well, it wasn't difficult to see why these defenders can't break through to the first team. Lots of useless passing around mid-field as per usual but same old cluelessness in the final third. We can't score at any level except from set plays.
-
Don't you just get sick of Saints always fielding English players, our management just don't get it! I mean all those home grown hoofers... I want to be entertained.
-
It is possible, you know, to watch football as a neutral and enjoy it. But don't get me wrong, one of my lads lives almost next door to the place so we end up there a couple of times a year spending "quality time". He was and is a Saint through and through.
-
Nah! The top 1 is moving away nobody else.
-
I've never had a problem getting into the Emirates, always tickets available. Saints won't be a sell out even if the away allocation is over subscribed. Plenty of Gooners will sell you their seat for the day.
-
Utter garbage.
-
You're wrong on all counts. What,s your point of making up nonsense like this?
-
You cannot be serious! Not sure anybody cares one way or the other. Can't see any of our lads queuing up to get picked for a cold night up int frozen norf!
-
How can we not turn all that possession into wins? Something wrong up front needs sorting out if we are to win this league.

David Armstrong & Matt Le Tiss are appearing at AFC Totton.

Just need to be more thougtful in your use of "Legend". MLT maybe... -
Kiss of death, new era or no new era. I do agree 'though that it is high time Mauricio spoke English or are there deeper politics at work? What about the other coaches, how's their English coming on or daren't they admit it publicly?

He was truly awesome on Saturday and one wonders how Pochettino could ever leave him out. Automatic pick in my book

Would scare the life out of me that's for sure, especially if I was a Stoke player and had watched MotD.

They'll roll over at the first sight of a Saints shirt, 2-0 to Saints.

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-0 Fulham

The most complete Southampton performance I have seen in my life time of watching them. They will win the Premier League this season surely. -
I think we can safely say Gaston will feature on Saturday.

Very lazy reply. Irony is obviously lost on people like you. -

Nobody else is able to find a way through and stick the ball in the net so why not Ramirez. I mean any forward who isn't scoring goals is worthless so he can replace anybody more or less. lLt's start with Ramirez, Guly and Lee... why not? Can't be any worse than Osvaldo, Rodrigues and Davies? -
Ticket Sales - Still not a sell out this year yet.

Well just remember our best crowds ever were only just over 30k at The Dell and at SMS. Moral seems to be we have catchment of around 300,000 people and for 10% of those to turn up for every game is a big ask indeed. Agreed, 40k go to Wembley but those are rare special occasions. It proves regrettably that our capacity is about right and that Mr Lowe was not quite as daft as we paint him - he also signed Morgan! Cortese is not into vanity projects so the dream of a super stadium in the South will ever remain just a dream. 28/29k for Fulham is more than our visitors deserve. Attendances are falling everywhere with our penniless poor and bankrupt middle, soon only idiots (like us) will deem it worthwhile to spend money on footie rather than food. -
Although Fulham ran out easy winners against Palace last night they did not play particularly well or with much assurance. They tried to play a passing game of sorts but it was slow, not instinctive and often wayward. The speed and accuracy of our game should have them on the back-foot from the get-go. I honestly cannot see them scoring, on the other hand we're not much better in the 18 yard box and will struggle to improve on the odd goal bundled in in a goalmouth scramble so for me 1-0 to Saints, maybe 2-0 if they are generous enough to give us an own goal.
-
Oh Dear! How sad is this suggestion? Why do we need a blo.ody song for every occasion. Embarrassing!

Why do some posters revel in players/managers doing badly?

Surely the whole point of this website is to talk ballocks and moan about trivia? Why else would anybody log in? Cortese out!
