Think Matsuki has played for all the under age groups but not the full national side.

Didn’t we also agree a fee with Man City for Delap? Presume it would have been on the same terms. Clearly not ideal for Ipswich but a fuck load better than signing BBD and Archer
-
No way? Really? I never knew that

All about opinions but if Onuachu is better than Stewart then Stewart may as well give up. FWIW I disagree, Onuachu is slow, immobile, lacks stamina and, for a tall fella, pretty poor in the air. Sooner he's out of the club the better. Bit early on to judge Stewart but he won most of the aerial duels against Arsenal and got about the pitch well enough. Injuries is the big thing with him though so I wouldn't be relying on him.

Sounds like he's got quite a bit of premier league interest. Only time I saw him was the two play off games and he was OK but I wasn't massively impressed. Small sample size mind.

Cheers for posting, I'd watched that last week and couldn't find it again. Agree, it's a much better insight into what he's like as a manager and far better than the interviews he's done. Comes across as far more assertive than he does in anything else I've seen.

Fuck me, his name is going to get bloody annoying, isn't it?
-
What did you expect on a Russell Martin thread? This thread perfectly mirrors his style of play.

I'd love to sign one of those tall rangy forwards with a bit of a presence. Someone with the same sort physical profile as Tammy Abraham, Broja, Toney (no, I'm not suggesting we could sign any of them, just someone who shares the same characteristics). Not sure we will and we'd need to shift on at least BBD and tall Paul. I actually think we'll see a lot more of Archer because he's the best finisher and he probably isn't going anywhere. He's relatively quick and (sometimes) has decent movement - pretty similar to Balogun and Still did a decent job with him. I think we're more likely to see changes and additions in the wide areas than strikers.

I'm not massively up on US sport but from what I can gather, while they may not have relegation in a lot of sports they do have strict controls on trying to make the competitions as fair and even as possible with things like the draft system. So I guess another question would be would you accept no relegation if a level playing field was enforced and each team was, for example, limited on transfers and wages? That, in theory, would give everyone a realistic chance of winning the title based on merit, not the wealth of owners. Obviously there's the enforcement angle and I doubt it could ever be properly implemented so it's a bit hypothetical but makes the argument a bit more interesting. Personally I think I'd still have promotion and relegation.

Purely speculation but Will Still changed his mind on becoming Vincent Kompany's assistant once he saw the setup and what was required of him. He seems like a bloke who goes with his gut feeling and it wouldn't surprise me if he agrees a deal in principle and then has a change of heart once he gets a look and feel for the club. Total speculation based on pilchards twist post, nuffink more.

Yeah he did, scored quite a few goals but Monaco snapped him up for 40m I think.
-
Yep, I’m the same. Get the squad right and any of the candidates will probably be fine.

I don't really know that much about Will Still so watched a few videos last night. First one is a long old watch and it's a couple of years old but gives you a bit of an idea about his experience: Have to say I wasn't that impressed. Comes across as a nice enough bloke but doesn't appear to have that aura about him, commanding presence whatever you want to call it. Maybe he just isn't good at these types of interviews (he pretty much admits as much). He's clearly better when he's talking football though: And finally here's another overview and analysis of him and takes down the argument that he got where he is by playing football manager: I'm not necessarily against his appointment and he sounds like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to football but not sure he's the type to instantly take charge of the dressing room. Maybe that doesn't matter so much anymore, or maybe that side of things doesn't come across in the interviews. Oh, and his missus graduated from University of Southampton so at least she'll know the area.
-
So he's about the same as Mark Robins then?
-
Yeah, I'm the same as you. Surprised anyone knows the supposed candidates well enough to have much more than a casual opinion.
-
Fernandes for me too.
-
What's a Leipzig? Sounds like some kind of truffle hunting pig.
-
Yep, I'd like to see RM get the Leicester job for a number of reasons. One of them being that if we plan on a big overhaul of players then it's more likely that he'll want to take some of the fringe players we don't want.
-
You must be gutted we didn't get a free trade deal with the US then?
-
One player I definitely wouldn't take is Roberts. Thought he was supposed to be decent when we were linked 2 years ago but based on both games against Cov, I thought he was rubbish. Constantly cut inside and kept losing the ball. Small sample to judge him on but didn't impress at all.

Yep, I think so. Would be interesting to see how many seasons there's only been 3 teams with parachute payments. Can't be many.
-
And if Sheffield United win then another team with parachute payments.
