  1. I'm quite shocked people think we'll be going out and spending money on a Downes understudy if we've got other glaring problems with the squad. As someone mentioned above, we'll probably go for another more advanced type of midfielder (O'Riley or similar) and maybe they can do a job if needed but the idea we'd spend money on someone like Reed and sit him on the bench half the time isn't going to happen (IMO). Might get someone like Ghoddos in a on a free or nominal fee but that's probably it.
  2. Yeah, loan would make sense although I'm not sure teams are likely to loan out many players valued in that kind of bracket. They'll be the ones that the parent club are hoping to move on for a permanent fee (like Sulemana) but unable to shift and will accept a loan in the absence of anything better. The ones who need more opportunities and game time will probably be at a lower level (at least initially anyway).
  3. Striker is a tough one. What do we reckon our budget for that is? I can't see us going much above 30M and even that might be pushing it (plus we're getting into the territory where the player is likely to have more attractive clubs in for him if valued at that sort of price). Obviously 30M doesn't guarantee much, I thought Scamacca would be great at 35M but he didn't do so well for West Ham, Broja apparently is valued not far short of 30 and a lot don't fancy him for that price either. Could always go down the young foreign route but that's asking a lot of a young and relatively inexperienced player and again at those prices the likelihood is that a bigger club would probably snap them up. I'm thinking it might be better to go for someone like Brereton-Diaz (think Sheff Utd were quoted 6M for him if they stayed up), and then another gamble on a younger player either from a big club and frustrated at lack of opportunity / foreign / Championship level (for maybe 20M) Gamble either way really but think I'd be happier with a couple of options rather than all the eggs in one basket. A lot will depend on Che and I guess we could use the loan market which might be the better route.
  4. He was back at Palace before Jones took over. He got unlucky and got injured around the time Palace had injuries to Olise and Eze so missed a chance in the first team. Will see if Palace bloke at work knows what’s going on with him.
  5. Think he's more of a winger? Pretty sure he played on the wing mostly for Charlton, he looked good whilst he was there though. Palace fan at work was raving about him last summer and thought he could be the next big thing.
  6. You could have said that last summer.
  7. Honestly can't see any world where we sign Sugawara and keep KWP. Would imagine wherever KWP is going it's virtually done. Good news on Downes and if it's rising to 18M then that's probably about right. Midfield still looks pretty lightweight to me so would be nice to get another in soon.
  8. Well it's YouTube so it's hard to judge - I wouldn't stick my neck out and say definite based on watching a few clips. This bloke seems to think he's Kante, Busquets and JWP rolled into one: https://khelnow.com/football/2024-01-world-football-lamine-camara-profile-scouting-report
  9. Well there we go, two people see completely different things so maybe somewhere in the middle wasn't too far off. I thought he was probably a bit more defensively minded but for the national team played a bit more forward and carried more of a threat.
  10. He looks alright on YouTube. Seems to have a bit of everything. Only really played a season in France and still only 20 so not exactly experienced. Our midfield looks really light at the moment so definitely need to start seeing some coming in. I wonder whether he's viewed (in an ideal world) as well as Downes and O'Riley or if he's considered next best for one of those positions. Would appear to be a bit of a risk asking him to play the Downes role and doesn't carry the goal threat of O'Riley. I guess if we go with 3 CBs then there's less need for an out and out defensive midfielder (and Downes was far more progressive when we switched last season).
  11. TBF trenches weren't designed for glass people. Although, thinking about it, glass people are ideal for that kind of warfare - that kind of transparency would make them far harder to hit. Unless he's made of stained glass. Is he made of stained glass or just usual glass?
  12. Yep, when we got relegated I didn't worry too much because at least we'd tried to get Gakpo and Ramos.
  13. I doubt he'd prefer struggling in the premier league to playing european football in a team that's just finished fourth in Serie A.
  14. I guess Stewart could be the big lad up top - got the height at any rate. The clips I've seen don't really show that physical side of his game but maybe he's called the Loch Ness Drogba for a reason. I've not exactly written him off but it's almost a jump of two divisions after 18 months injury layoff so I'm not expecting anything fantastic from him but who knows?
  15. Yeah, wouldn't be great relying on Delap but that's probably the budget we've got to work with. Fair play if we can find better and more experienced for the same or slightly more. Miovski looks a decent and clinical striker but I'm not sure he's got the physical presence to hold the ball up and bring others into the game - if we're going with three at the back then we'll need that. Brereton-Diaz looks like he could do that and proved he can score at premier league level. Both should be reasonably priced but outside of that I'm not sure - punt on a young player overseas I guess.
  16. I thought it was Harrison Reed. Wouldn't be against it but would still need Downes or someone else as first choice.
  17. People who forward on to you a long email trail without any summary of what they want and expect you to trawl through it and decipher what the fuck they're asking for. Lazy stupid cunts.
  18. There's a precedent for that with Alec Douglas-Hume.
  19. Wasn’t that through that transfer app thing that Rasmus’s brother runs?
  20. To be fair Torino were supposed to be interested, he's only 23 and he's played 113 times for a decent team in Brazil. You'd like to think that there's something about him that would justify getting him in.
  21. Ha ha, yeah, I was being polite. Don't really want to slag the bloke off without having seen him but even when you go onto YouTube it's hard to see anything particularly good.
  22. I was under the impression that unemployment was relatively low so could just be we don't have enough people (of working age/too poor to retire early/fit to work)?
  23. This was posted earlier in the thread: https://targetscouting.com/2024/05/01/welington-sao-paulo-scout-report/ It's not that promising.
  24. Liz Truss, yellow bellied coward
