  1. Question: how much have we spent so far in this transfer window?

  3. Thanks for that. One of those Lancasters is based at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum - right here in Hamilton. A Twenty minute drive away. It often flies right over my house each weekend during the summer. You can hear it coming from quite a distance, because of the unique sound of those four engines. http://www.warplane.com/
  4. What is astonishing in Lawrenson's remarks is this statement: "Southampton's business plan seems to be to bring players in, train them up and sell them on, which is great when it works but it is a big ask to do it again and again." Does he not see that the large exodus of players this summer was driven by the players themselves, not a plan of the Club?
  5. From Lawrenson's comments: "they have still not answered the question of how on earth they are going to replace Suarez's goals - not just the quantity but also the quality of his strikes".
  6. Gram Parsons: key figure in American country rock. Played with The Byrds (he was the inspirational core of their LP Sweetheart of the Rodeo) and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Then he recorded two superb LPs with Emmylou Harris: GP (1973) and Grievous Angel (1974). He died in September 1973. He was a friend of Keith Richards - a big influence on the Stones flirtation with country rock in the late 60s/early 70s. Here he is - with Emmylou Harris: "Hickory Wind".
  7. Isgrove and Ward-Prowse off; Taider and Ramirez on.
  8. Hard to pick just one, but: July 15, 1972 at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens: The Rolling Stones with support act Stevie Wonder. Also superb: June 3, 2008 at Hamilton Place: Leonard Cohen Also memorable: Neil Young, Richard and Linda Thompson, The Animals, Lucinda Williams, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Bob Dylan ("The Rolling Thunder Review"), Joan Armatrading
  9. One of the most awesome runs of songs is Side One of Van Morrison's Moondance LP. Five superb songs in a row: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Crazy Love, Caravan and Into the Mystic.
  10. Neil Young - After the Goldrush The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet The Beatles - Revolver Miles Davis - Kind of Blue Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde [Didn't quite make it: Van Morrison - Moondance or Tupelo Honey; Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief; Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours; Beach Boys - Pet Sounds; The Who - Who's Next; The Kinks - Something Else; Andy Irvine & Paul Brady - Andy Irvine and Paul Brady]
  11. She doesn't deserve the attention. Just one example of scores of ultra right-wing pundits on US TV who vie with each other to spout the most outrageous, retrogressive nonsense they can come up with. She is also not very good with the facts - often making stuff up. Here's the transcript from an interview she did with the CBC's Bob McKeown, when she tried to convince him, contrary to the facts, that Canadian troops participated in the Vietnam War. "Coulter: We were on Hannity and Colmes discussing the...the antiwar protestors. Canada...used to be one of our most...most loyal friends, and vice versa. Canada sent troops to Vietnam. Was Vietnam less containable, and more of a threat than Saddam?... Host: (interrupting Coulter) No, actually Canada did not send troops to Vietnam. Coulter: I don’t think that’s right. Host: Canada did not send troops to Vietnam. Coulter: (looking puzzled) Indochina? Host: No. Canada...Second World War, of course, Korea, yes... Coulter: (talking over him) I think you’re wrong. Host: Vietnam, no, took a pass on Vietnam Coulter: I think you’re wrong. Host: No. Australia was there, not Canada Coulter: I think Canada sent troops. Host: (shaking his head no) Coulter: I’ll get back to you on that. Host: OK. Voice: (haughtily) Coulter never got back to us. But for the record, like Iraq, Canada sent no troops to Vietnam."
  12. Le Tissier. I thought James Beattie was excellent too - just as good as Lambert.
  13. The great Marvin Gaye live at Montreux:
  14. Ditto. His modesty was the key characteristic of the man. Quite rare these days - most individuals in his line of work are so full of themselves.
  15. You could have written 'typically long' - that would have saved two words.
  16. Everyone's been to school - everyone's an education expert. Everyone's played football - everyone's a footballing expert. Everyone's had a boss - everyone's a management expert. Everyone's felt anxiety - everyone's a crisis expert. Apparently ...
  17. Good, thoughtful post. Maybe we should just all take a break for the summer. Come back on here in late-July/early August.
  18. This board has been full this week of ultra-negative, presumptuous, and mean-spirited criticisms of the people running the Club. Much of it has not been based on any real facts; it's mostly sheer conjecture, highly-subjective impressions, and mere guesswork. Here's the chance to expunge all that negativity and to end the week on a high note. In this context, to worry about going "overboard with the thanks", just sounds like more of that negative vibe!
  19. I see: why be über-positive, when you've got the choice to be negative.
  20. Good luck, Rickie. Sorry to see you go. You have been a great ambassador for our club - combining success on the pitch with a down-to-earth, unassuming personality. Who could fail to admire your contribution to SFC? All the best.
  21. Or illiterately?
  22. How could you kill your own family member - a pregnant woman - on a matter of "honour"? http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/pakistan-stoning-of-pregnant-woman-by-family-totally-unacceptable-pm-says-1.2657880
  23. That was a tough set. I am an excellent speller, but only got 8 correct.
