A clue might be to look at the League Table. They are above us, have more points than us even with 10pt deduction. Simple fact, they are game for game better than us. Why is that so shocking? (OK I know its hard to believe Swindon are better than Saints but thats how it is and why we won't be promoted this season)

The FL is already a shambles, so having npower sponsoring them would be appropriate. Biggest bunch of cowboys, would not touch the thieving bastards with a barge pole, and npower are no better.

So who's received their wembley tickets in the post yet?

My 3 tix arrived this morning (after I left for work). Block 529. -
Just seeing Mawhinney backing up this vote makes the point that this is crap. I do hope we boo Mawhinney at Wembley. Will it be the Tory **** who will present the trophy? I fecking hope not.
-
No they're not, 1 win in last 4, 0-4 home defeat against the Gas and 1-2 against MK Dons. Lucky to get 1-0 at the Withdean yesterday where Brighton can't win, hardly a great run. Still I also think we will beat Swindon 3-1. It would be good to wipe the smile of the local mongs

Optimism is fine but in reality there isn't a hope in hell of us closing a 16 point gap in 12 games AND for the teams immediately above us also to not be able to take advantage if one of the top 6 does have an absolute nightmare. The final nail in our play-off aspirations disappeared in the mud of St James Park and with the results that went against us that day. To answer the original question posed, who will get promoted, Norwich, Leeds and Millwall. We will finish 7th.
-
No. Simply won't happen. It has been beyond us since the Exeter draw and the way the results went against us that day. We will get close, because we will probaby win most of our games, but it won't happen. I have upped my predicted finish though from 8th to 7th. Of course if I'm wrong I will be delighted

Not quite, its all about winning as many games as possible the rest of this season to get that winning mentality and also winning the JPT. Play-offs are out of the question but the winning mentality thing is vital for next year, we need to show how dominant we can be and put the frighteners on everyone else.

Any feint hopes of the play-offs ended in the mud at St James Park a while back now.

Quite clearly this is not the case. See the mail below which included a reply to an email. The effective number of tickets available was 81k. 7 weeks ago Saints requested 44.5k and Carlisle requested 24.5k. It is actually quite clear to me that Saints have been surprised by the number of tickets they could have sold. It would seem if they had asked for 50k 7 weeks ago they might have been allocated 50k, but hindisght is a wonderful thing. Once allocated plans are put in place and thats where the inflexibility lies. It seems then that there are going to be 12k empty seats that could have been sold if the 2 clubs had requested more. If the final had been against Leeds it is clear that ironically we would have received less tickets, 40.5k max as far as I can see. And to those who speculate why can't Wembley just add some segregation netting read the response again, the issue is that the empty seats are directly ABOVE the Carlisle supporters. Thats the issue, in other words they are concerned that "missiles" can be dropped on the people below, no way to prevent this with the stadium design as is, it seems it is not a problem with the concourses in general but due to the various levels. It is a shame that there will be a large number of empty seats but in my view the reasons are to some extent understandable.

Sorry but have to disagree bout Ted, his best signings were Mick Channon and Ron Davies. TP would be #3 for me.

I'm sure Tiss will do his best...

Its all about pride So its a **** pot trophy, but we don't have too many items in our cabinet at the moment.

I don't think the Skates are appealing. Most of them are ugly as ****

Glad that we havent given up chasing the playoffs
VectisSaint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
It was always a mistake to say we had 2 games in hand for the play-off places, Millwall were equal on points with Huddersfield before last week, so we still only really had 1 game in hand on them, and we still have. A point a few were making before all this bull**** about having 2 games in hand. Thats why the chances of the play-offs were far more remote than some were trying to make out, people were focusing on the wrong target. -
No real need to know the songs, just tell them to sing "Pompey" frequently and they will soon fit in.
-
Interesting idea, make up a point a game, and find ourselves 2 short of the playoffs. We are 15 behind with 13 to play and we only have 1 game in hand over Millwall. The (distant) dream of the play-offs ended in the mud at St James Park. Nonetheless we should enjoy a good run in with lots of wins, and that will be great and should set us up well for winning the League next season.

Think you will be proved wrong. There is one huge difference between RL and most of the players you mention/types of players you refer to. RL is English. Most PL teams (whats this EPL thingy) only buy foreign players, because they don't think English players are any good. If a PL team had wanted to buy Beckford they would have done in January, they didn't, that speaks volumes. There have been a few (very few) players who have made the jump from 3rd division to 1st division recently, our own BO for example, as well as Zamora, but really not many. Any player with something between their ears will realise that bench warming is not all its cracked up to be. If I was a betting man I would have a small wager that RL will still be with us next season. I would not however bet against Lallana or Spiderman leaving, they are not AP's men (they weren't signed by him) and probably would not have the loyalty to the man that his signings would.
-
Actually there are (at least) 2 Newcastles, try looking around the Potteries area "under-Lyme"
-
Lambert is not good enough for the Prem, Championship at best, thats why he is still playing in the 3rd Division. Why would he hand in a transfer request if what he is looking for is a big pay day, handing one in means goodbye to your cut of the transfer fee. Rickie will not go anywhere until at least the end of next season.

Ever so slightly more successful I would imagine, no offence to Leon.

I thought this was something to do with the Mirror Newspaper, but the level of questions seems more like something from CBeebies. Think Mr Pardew would have been suitably embarrassed answering questions like those and rightly so.

Are we as fans now obsessed with Pompey..?
VectisSaint replied to Thedelldays's topic in General Sports
You really think people from Tranmere would go out and but Pompey shirts to wind us up? That would be obsessive in the extreme. I enjoy the rivalry from a distance, but really couldn't care less about them. Maybe because I am older I always felt that Spuds were our real rivals. I have several family members who are Pompey supporters, we have a laugh but generally its all good natured. I really wouldn't have a problem sitting next to a Pompey supporter at a game, as long as it wasn't the Bell Ringer, anyone who is a genuine supporter and not just a thug looking for a fight is fine by me. The days of violence at footy belong in the 70s/80s and we are well rid of them. Some people need to grow up and be a bit more tolerant. -
Would this ex Saints side be competative in Premier?
VectisSaint replied to Weston Saint's topic in The Saints
Any team that includes Quashie would get relegated, he is utter crap. That's probably why he does not play in the Premier League and therefore would not qualify for your team anyway. He is currently doing his best to shaft QPR. I imagine Warnock will suss him quickly and move him on asap.
