  1. My sister once went out with a saints youth player (Paul Harper) and Harps met Sir Alex in the tunnel at the Dell. He asked SAF who he would buy if he had his choice of any player in the league (this was 1991/92) and he said it would be MLT, but that it was well known in the game that his wife wouldn't let him leave Southampton. Later that year (I think) he signed Cantona from Leeds, who I thought was quite similar to MLT. I often wonder how he would have turned out if he'd gone to Man U - and how England would have done in Euro 96 with an integrated Le Tiss - (though well aware that we would have been in League Two or something -oh). there's a video of Berbatov on YouTube saying that MLT was his hero growing up by the way - a great watch but I've looked and can't find it now. It might explain his game, 80 minutes of seemingly not much, a few flicks, then a hat trick
  2. He's on the Saintlist for sure - met Herbie a few times, and did the stadium tour with him when it opened. He's a top, top fella
  3. Worth trying to book the Isle of Wight hotel on Phillip Island isn't it for a bit of a Hampshire connection?
  4. He is compared to Hilfanhaus ;-) Up the saints!
  5. Not Saints, but another one that did turn uncomfortable was when I met Bryan Robson while ****faced in Manchester. He came over to talk to our table and I thanked him for being manager of Middlesborough. He said no problem and was I a smoggie and I replied "no mate, I'm a Saints fan and if they had a decent manager we'd have gone down". Didn't go down too well
  6. heh, I lived in Manchester for a year in the 90s and had Teddy Sheringham open a toilet door in a panic as I was obviously about to puke - fair play to him he checked I was ok. Also saw Ryan Giggs and that Jenny girl from "No Limits" in a ****ty nightclub near the airport on a Thursday night. Best Saints story for me is when we partied the night away with the team in New York New York after our 6-3 against the Mancs in '96. Got in as I sold my shirt to Claus in the queue so his mate could get in (he didn't have a collar - what sort of day was it when a Southampton bouncer would turn away a Saints player after beating the then Champions 6-3 - ****). Anyway, bought another shirt, got in and got very very very drunk. Only awkward moments were telling Jim Magilton to leave it out with my sister (again) and talking to Tore Andre Flo's sister (tho she was introduced as Jostein Flo's sister) who was at the Institute and my mate turning to my now wife and saying "****ing fair play to him, he never chats up birds that good looking". Good days

So, I tipped my business partners on ARM in Jan at 100p (I once made a pretty penny on Acorn shares at 8p - sold out at 100p when they became ARM, they are now at an equivalent 1200 thanks to splits etc. - my old man still has his - best 250 quid ever invested). Anyway, they're 420+ now - did I buy any - no. arse A fundamentally good company who for reasons only known to the analysts I worked with at BAM tracked Man U's share price back in the day.

I heard a debate on Radio 4 as well (sorry) and Peta, 23 from Essex turned out to be intelligent and quick witted, and totally owned Kathy Lette, the unfunny Ozzie *****. it was good to hear. I seem to remember Peta, 23 from Essex was on Top Gear as well
  11. Still? Still? Did we ever?
  12. this sums up offence best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAGJpISVERg&t=3m27s
  13. That 3rd goal summed up his domination of the Inter defence. Receives the call, looks up "I've got the beating of you", puts the ball 40 yards in front of him and runs the defender then puts in a perfect cross that I could score from (if I'd been goal hanging). He was immense last night - makes you think about where we'd be if we hadn't gone down - though by now he'd have left anyway.
  14. Is it really going to happen then? It all comes down to if the crook makes more money through liquidation or through the admin exit plan. That we don't know but all will be obvious Tuesday. Do you think they need closure Tuesday / Wednesday as this is pay day perchance?

  18. **** off.. ho ho
  19. so, new manager wants loads of new players and has no time to buy them, January he goes mental so our reserve squad goes through the roof pushing overheads up. Players have no idea who is in charge in the mean time. ****ing stupid
  20. cheers for that email - I'm in the web business and FLi spoke to me about 3 months ago about doing a review of Perform - I think I'll call them back
  21. at the game
  22. is it possible to start one thread on this site without it turning into a ****ing slagging match? Personally, I'm pleased we're trying to address the midfield where we know we have issues - it means that AP and NC can see the same problems as us and have moved to get a tall, pacy, skillful attacking midfielder. What more can we ask for?
  23. I was in the car behind when this happened, and called the ambulance while my wife (a nurse luckily) attended to the lad. First things first, the lad should be ok - he had a suspected broken leg and had cut his nose when he hit the deck but the traffic was doing about 30 and he was clipped by the wing mirror. Once the police and ambulance arrived they told us to leave so we did. As the the road being closed, basically he ran out between the stationary cars approaching the bridge without realising the traffic was moving the other way. The driver of the other car couldn't do anything about it and can't be at fault. He was on the crossing but the lights were green. If the road was shut then yeah, he wouldn't have been hit but he wouldn't have been hit if he'd have been paying attention either (his dad, who was livid, said he had form for this as well). Key thing is that he looked like he'd be ok.
  24. 4 more going now, taking my kids to their first games - a bit worried about my son during the minutes silence as he's only 4 and doesn't take orders (like his dad) - concourse for me then.
  25. I think HMRC are clutching at straws a bit to be honest and they seem to have changed their argument recently as well (or maybe clarified it). I think Lampitt being in charge will make a big difference and that HMRC will lose today.
