Defensively strong but, Boufal aside, really little creativity. Still - 3 points, top half and level with Koeman and still only 4 points of 6th. Good to see JRod get 90 minutes for first time in 3 years and started to look pretty sharp. It is hardly entertaining stuff and we drop everyone behind the ball when the opposition gets the ball and then are very pedestrian when we get the ball back. Really very little to get excited about - I hope it improves as I would rather see attacking, exciting football even if we lose. This safety first approach is dull as f**k.

Superb goal........Boufal has shown his quality today.
-
Redmond for Tadic.......really?
-
I take it back - you're a total bellend. I would rather anything than watching this 'play' week in week out. It is utter crap and we are so defensive it is no wonder we don't create chances. Our midfield is expected to sit just in front of the back 4 which means Jrod is totally isolated and we are inviting them to come at us. Utter, utter garbage and I am sick of it
-
We get the ball and play it up towards Jrod....not a single player within 30 yards of him and all behind the ball when it is played!!!!! This is f******g disgraceful
-
I count myself as a positive Saints fan. But if you try and defend the crap we have been served up in recent weeks you are deluded. Defensive, dull, boring carp is what it is 1 shot on goal and no attacking threat whatsoever. Still if you're happy watching that, fair play to you
-
Quality is just not there......Boufal is trying to do too much and achieving nothing and our final ball just isnt there
-
Not a good start - passes going astray, Boro closing so we go back to our pathetic passing sideways and backwards
-
Martina is a total clown.....so far out of position and they nearly score as a result. Pathetic player
-
I would love to think we'll score 3 at home (as every team has done today) but 95% more likely to be a 0 after Southampton. We are gutless, toothless and have no-one who is clinical in front of goal - even Austin needs numerous good chances to put 1 in. Long, Redmond, Rodriguez - if you doubled the size of the goals they still wouldn't be able to hit it! And our prolific, sedentary midfield is not going to contribute.......... Incredible that recently the only time we have looked threatening up front is with VVD and Yoshida playing as CFs. The front line should be embarrassed to show their faces in public. And yes, the pathetic way we went out of Europe in the week still has me mad as hell. Still can't believe we played for a 0-0 and went out of Europe in such abject fashion. Everyone with half a brain could see in the summer we needed another striker.

He was not that good.....absolute disgrace tonight. Commentator over here summed it up perfectly when he wondered around in a daydream when the ball went past him but did not go out for a throw in. One said Redmond switched off and the other said "he switched off from the first kick off, he has been terrible".
-
Dull, boring, semi-comatose style of play. Add to that a pile of s**e up front (Long, Rodriguez and Redmond take a bow) and we are now offically an awful team to watch. Unless you want a cure for insomnia

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread

Its not good enough - playing for a 0 0 at home! We are so catious and defensive - yes we have a pile of crap up front but we actually look threatening when playing with pace. This dull, lethargic style of play just makes me want to weep. -

1 shot on target all game. This team and this manager is a f****** disgrace. How Nathan f***** Redmond starts for us I'll never know -

My god, this is utter, utter s***e. Have we forgotten how to run, how to play with passion and actually try to entertain/win games. This style of football makes me want to puke - absolutely F*****g awful stuff. Slow, ponderous and no threat up front at all. Redmonds 'shot' just about sums Saints up for me these days..... -
Sam McQueen signs new 4 and a half year deal
washsaint replied to Wimborne_saint's topic in The Saints
Congrats to Sam - sounds like you are related and, if you are, without knowing Sam he comes across as a credit to his family, Saints and himself. Sometimes in life, things taste so much sweeter when they are unexpected or when you think they are never going to happen. Full credit to everyone and looking forward to seeing Sam continue his progress at a club where he will be well looked after. He must be pinching himself to gave made his full debut at the San Siro! -
Yoshi has been better than Fonte this season and I really don't think it would be the end of the world if he moved on. Greedy ****. At 33 his best days are behind and if he won;t take 80K a week he can do one.

FA Cup 3rd Round Draw - Norwich away. Yawn.
washsaint replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Yep, memory playing tricks with me! I remember the whole away end going completely mental and a mass bundle/surge when Monkou scored and we made the front page of the Echo with the photo they took of the crowd celebrating/going mental. What a game - when we were losing 3-1 and looked done relegation would have been all but assured but that mental game gave us the belief to go on and stay up somehow. And yet today, we have huge amounts of posters whinging because we don't win any game. Back in the 90s, out style of play was poor, results were terrible but (Branfoot aside) I don't remember any mass grumblings over where we were, etc. -

Happy days....really fond memories of the 5-4 win up at Carrow Road with the MLT hattrick after being down and out and Ken Monkous goal to start the fightback. Great escape year and was a local game before me just before leaving the Air Force. -
What a toothless, pathetic display from this side. We so badly need a striker and JWP has been abysmal....but he is not alone there.

For me, a pretty strange season so far. If we are able to get 2 more results in the next week then we will be knock out stages of Europa, semis of League Cup and pushing for a top 8 finish again. If anyone had offered this in the summer I think everyone would have been over the moon. Puel is impressing but it has been strange. At times our football has been sublime - and at other times atrocious (Hull and Sparta spring to mind!). I think everyone would agree we are lightweight up front with Long and Rodriguez absolutely useless so far. For me the highlight is Puel having faith in playing the younger players and giving them a chance. I think it is no coincidence that their enthusiasm rubs off on the rest of the team. Still plenty of twists and turns to come I'm sure but so far Puel has impressed and the way he has the whole squad involved is pretty miraculous and seems to have everyone working together. Would be really interested to hear of Guan or any of the ITKs have any updates on what the mood in the camp is, what they really think of Puel, etc.

Is this the best depth of squad we've ever had?
washsaint replied to Saint Jude's topic in The Saints
Very strong depth in numbers - particularly with some of the younger players starting to shine and complete for places. Definitely think we are weaker in terms of up front - we are struggling badly in that area - but stronger everywhere else. -
We will lose if Cuco the Clown starts. The guy is awful. Really hope Sims and Reed get a chance to play. Not sure where the goals will come from assuming Austin does not play.

100% agree with VfTT......please don't play Martina (ever again). How he is a pro footballer when he can't defend and can't cross a ball under no pressure is beyond me. I would much rather have Yoshi at RB than Martina. Would hope that Cedric can play 2 games a week as he had a lengthy spell out. Be interesting to see who he goes up top with - Long/Rodriguez (who are both in woeful form) or Olamula?
