This is a great signing, I'm very surprised to see so many people being so negative. He is the sort of player that we've been calling out for for years and we've finally got one - and he's free! I hope the "formalities" of the work permit are sorted soon, perhaps in time for Saturday if he's fit enough. Does anyone actually know for definate that he's been training with the squad?

Without a doubt. It's a crying shame Pardew can't see it. Gillet would (and has been with Blackpool) class in League One. He can do it in the Chamionship which he showed last season, so he'd do it down another league. Having Gillet back in the team would be like a new signing, come on Pards give him a f'ing chance.

You need to be 17 drive unfortunately young man. Only a few years for you to wait I'm sure, then you can drive all the players you dislike anywhere you want to.

Today wasn't special. It's just the last available day to make permanent transfers until the next opportunity. It's not as if all signings made today are half price. It's the same as any other day which has past over the last month or so, except that it's the last day of the window. Fans and media outlets make it out to be special and over-hype it, but it's not. As Saints fans we should be used to and expect this disappointment better than anybody! I'm also a little disappointed that upon returning home from work (something most posters on here should consider going to ) it appears that we haven't signed anyone, but I don't think we can blame the OS for this. If we'd made a signing, they'd have announced it.

Never heard of Franks. Has anyone seen him play? If true though it's another youngster learning his trade which is not what we need. Would obviously support him but if that's all we get then up front we are looking horribly weak.

I don't mind Liverpool or Benitez, in fact I'd love it if they won the league. However, they won't because of the following: Voronin, Insua, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Lucas, Ngog, Johnson. Ie. too many average players near their starting line up. And I think everyone would agree with you Crab Lungs that Gerrard is overrated. Good player? Yes. Best midfielder in the world? Nowhere near.

Although I can barely make sense of your post, I agree with you. If we can turn some of that passion they showed at the end into decent performances we might be alright.

I haven't read this thread so I've no idea why everyone is getting so upset about it - but anyone who says it's simply "bad luck" that we always, constantly, consistently and religiously let in late goals needs their head checked.
