So in the striker department we're going into the new season with Shane Long and Austin who will be lucky to play 10 games. 1 striker. Plus we've got Europa League to think about. Hopefully I'm being too hasty and we are still looking to replace Pelle and Mane, but if we don't replace either then we've an arduous season ahead.

Yoshida has improved a lot, and despite having the occasional wobble (becoming more and more occasional) we won't find many better than him happy to play as back up. Gardos is handy too.

Oh I'd be so surprised if we kept Tadic. Fonte will probably go too and Bertrand another strong possibility. I don't think Reed will be happy until at least another 2 quality players are out the door.

The clubs ambitions and goals have changed. Pelle could potentially score the goals to take us to the next level which the board cannot risk right now. We've a new strategy and we can't possibly achieve those with quality internationals like Pelle and Mane leading the line.

How fantastic would that be! Alas, it's gonna be one tough and disappointing year ahead with the kinds of appointments we're making. Shame as I think we all thought the club would push on (again!) and really show their ambition. But if this is as far as the board want to take us then I suppose we need to be thankful for what they've already achieved and concentrate on building for the future. In fact I think when Puel and his team are announced that will be able to bring all of us some closure on what has been an amazing journey. You could say it's the hope of us continuing our progression which kills us. At least now we know that's completely finished and we can bring our expectations back down to survival each year and the occasional relegation/promotion journey. It's been an amazing ride though!

Perhaps Koeman was right about our lack of ambition. We had a chance to appoint Pellegrini and we turn him down for what looks likely to be someone with far far inferior experience. It's clearly not a shambles because it's all planned by the club, just a shame that it's now transparent that the people running our club do not want any more progression. Southampton turn down Pellegrini. F*cking hell.
