At least with us selling Mané, Pellé and Wanyama we still have quality in the squad, and have signed what looks like decent players. Swansea have left themselves with no strikers. Even if they sign one or two before the season that is a very risky strategy. Granted they'll get good money for Williams considering his age but he's a good player and has been a mainstay of their defence for years. A quick glance at their forums and they're talking about "asset stripping", which holds echoes of this forum a few years ago. Maybe they'll be ok, but it's a shame as they're seemingly a well run club, or have been until now.

I have Swansea as struggling against relegation this season. Williams gone, Ayew going, Gomis gone, and I'd be surprised if they kept hold of Sigurdsson.

Been linked with Liverpool all summer according to various sources. Metro factfile: http://metro.co.uk/2016/06/01/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-liverpool-target-samuel-bastien-5917348/

If everyone on this thread were politicians, my vote would be with Saint Tex. Echoes my thoughts exactly. If we only sign an attacking midfielder and a back up keeper, I'll be perfectly happy. I think we will too. There is a serious lack of chill going on here...

I was having a quick read on this guy, his stats are impressive. With the right coaching he could be a bargain for Stoke, similar to Mahrez or even Mané, being sold for big bucks in a couple of years. Or equally, he could flop. But at no more than £5 million I'd say a decent risk. (Like with Juanmi)

God knows at this stage. Still time to impress Puel. My team depending on fitness: Forster, Cedric, Fonte, VVD, Bertrand, Clasie, Hojbjerg, Davis, Redmond, Tadic, Long. Subs: Gazzaniga, Martina, Yoshida, Romeu, JWP, Austin, JRod. But I suspect it very much won't be that...

I thought there'd be Work permit problems. Hence why he's been surprisingly linked with Wolves. Apparently a work permit would be easier to achieve if he started in England in the Championship. So I read.... I can't see Liverpool needing him. Lallana may find himself out of there. And, controversially, I'd have him back here. (Tin hat on)

On what date will we make another signing?!
SNSUN replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
28 July. The underwhelming signing of a back up keeper. Cue meltdown # 43 of the summer. This is followed a day later by a huge marquee signing of an AM. Put your house on it. I am not ITK. -
£60 million for Wijnaldum and Sissoko sales - someone at Newcastle is working miracles. For a relegated side to get that much money for their players is unprecedented. Gone are the days relegated sides used to get pilfered on the cheap.

Nacer Chadli up for sale for £15 million. I said HCDAJFU last summer and I stick by that. Scores goals, tons of experience and only 26. Linked with Swansea so far. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/swansea-make-move-nacer-chadli-8457481

Stoke are seemingly starting to get desperate. I wouldn't say Allen is worth that, even in this climate.

IMO, At this juncture, I'd say we're 3 players light. Perhaps more, but we don't want to flood the team with senior pros if we're going to try and use youth throughout the season. The positions I think we need are back up keeper, Defensive midfielder rock, and an attacking goalscoring midfielder. For the back up keeper, I'm not sure about Gazzaniga. Maybe the club think he's ready at last but I'd be nervous to see him as no.1 if Fraser got injured. Bring in a decent back up keeper and let Gazzaniga have a year's loan somewhere. Then we'll know if he's ready. As for the rest of the defence, I think we're sorted for now. The centre back 4 + the youngsters are strong, the left back slot is perhaps our strongest position of all, and I can't see us bringing in another right back when we have the youth players to back up a confidence-rich Soares and Martina. For the DM, we need to replace Wanyama properly. I know nothing of Hojbjerg but from what people have been saying it seems he's more of a Schneiderlin than a Wanyama. Get a proper rock of a DM in and we should concede very few goals. Finally as for the attacking midfielder, Mané needs to be replaced like for like, not hoping Redmond can come in and do it or even hoping someone like Isgrove can make the step up. This is where the big money needs to be spent. Ziyech would be perfect. Siggurdsson would be perfect. Someone that can create and score goals. I think the club will, it will be exciting to see who. Finally, I would have said we needed a striker but with Long, Austin and JRod, when we only play 1 up front anyway, should be enough. Maybe the club will bring one in anyway, that'd be nice. Especially as Seager is out injured long term. I think the club will bring in an attacking midfielder and a back up keeper for definite, but after that, who knows. Maybe a striker.

Decent run to set up the penalty. Was that McQueen?

All social media blocked in Turkey https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/15/facebook-twitter-and-youtube-blocked-in-turkey-during-reported-coup-attempt/ Crazy stuff. Curfews? As in 'stay in doors or we blow your head off?'

I'm sure I read his release clause was £20 million... Crazy money again for a bit part pace merchant. I think WBA are struggling to bring people in. They need Berahino off the books for the money.
-
Not even if we didn't pay him a salary. His legs went ages ago. He'll do someone a job back in League One, maybe the Championship if he's lucky. A bargain, even if he doesn't have much experience. Well done Bologna. Agree, while contracts aren't worth much these days, the six year contract he signed at least shows he's happy here at the moment. That said, there's so much silly money being flashed about, if an insane amount got offered to Saints, and then an insane amount got offered to VVD, he'd probably go. After all I bet Saints didn't think they'd get £13 million for Pelle, and I bet Pelle didn't think he'd be the 6th highest paid footballer in the world! It could happen to anyone.
-
They probably hate Saints this summer because we beat them to Redmond, and by some accounts are also interested in Berahino and Tello which are also their targets. I guess Hughes' stream of Barcelona rejects has run dry...

CONFIRMED: Graziano Pelle Joins Shandong Luneng - Undisclosed Fee (12-15M)
SNSUN replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
Pellé's overhead kick against QPR is still the best goal I've ever seen live, and he'll be remembered for a long time, but he's replaceable. I think the deal is good for all sides and we'll replace him appropriately. I never thought we'd make a profit on him. Thanks Graz, enjoy the millions... now let's bring in someone younger. -
Swansea! No, wait, they sold the winning goalscorer...

Signed for Saints the same month as Otsemobor, Seaborne, Barnard and Puncheon. Surely one of our all time best transfers.

I know nothing of this player, but the majority of you lot seem pleased, which fills me with confidence. Seems Liverpool were linked this summer too. http://www.90min.com/posts/3271260-liverpool-tipped-to-sign-mario-gotze-s-bayern-munich-teammate-pierre-hojbjerg

Yep, with nigh on 2 months of the transfer window to go and already a signing behind us, we should throw in the towel. I'll take 17th personally. #dalek

Wonderkid on FM2011, the edition I'm currently playing, but I guess he's not quite stepped up.
