Burnley (h) Villa (h) West Ham (a) Newcastle (h) Norwich (a) A bit of a break after the Spuds Cup game, but then we have 5 seemingly winnable League games, starting with the team that got our season off to a bad start. What do you reckon we’ll get from that lot? IMO playing our best we could get all 15 points, but we’re Southampton and never do things easily. So 9-11 points is my guesstimate. A lot of it rides on whether Ings stays fit. Theres a tougher 5 games following them though (Arsenal, Watford, City, Everton, United) so we need to make the most of these fixtures.

Even ex-Skate Johnson says we’ve been the better team (through gritted teeth). How I’d love us to score the next goal and make this interesting...

Heads up lads, not over yet.

I think there will be a definite split in results if people were asked to rate the window. For me I'm disappointed to see two senior players go and only one young guy come in, but as it seems that the club's primary objective this season is safety (either that or they think what we have is good enough for Europe), and we will almost certainly achieve that, then getting big wages off the bill now may give us more budget in the summer. I do think it's a shame that we haven't signed players to push on, but as Ralph said it's not a good time of the year to source players at reasonable prices. KWP is the unknown factor. He could be crap, he could be great. But Cedric has one assist all season and no goals, so attacking wise maybe he's better. We'll see... Is there a chance that the January window could be gotten rid of one day? I liked the days when you could sign players whenever (Berkovic/Ostenstadt/Lundekvam stick out) but I guess these days you'd have City buying the League every year. Maybe what you have in September is what you have all season?

Jacob Maddox on loan with view to permanent signing in summer
SNSUN replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
I read an article that said he passed his medical, I just assumed as he wasn't a big signing it was being kept quiet by the club and we'll find out in a few days. -
Jacob Maddox on loan with view to permanent signing in summer
SNSUN replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
TBF Obafemi plied his youth trade all over the place until he came to us, and now he's one of our 4 Premier League strikers. Young players can get overlooked, and as we've seen from some of our own youngsters, development ages vary greatly. -
Good shout, in that case Sims and Hesketh we’re both here as youngsters too. And McQueen.
-
Unless you include Kelvin on the staff.

Underwhelming deadline day then. Any late business to come? New contract for Shane Long and a 6 month deal for newly-released Ki Sung-Yeung perhaps would keep us talking until the early hours of the morning...

Jacob Maddox on loan with view to permanent signing in summer

Throw enough **** at the wall and see if it sticks. Still risk free and might find a gem. Obviously someone has seen something in him. Crocker? -
So he’s staying then? Up to 4th choice. 3rd choice if Vestergaard has another bad game. I’d still like to see him play centre back against someone crap like Norwich.
-
The complete opposite of what Cedric is. He's described Bertrand there not Cedric!
-
This I was not expecting! Wow leaves us short at CB. Good luck to Maya... was never going to be the best centre back ever but a loyal servant and plugged gaps when needed. And he did improve as he aged. Sad about this one. Surely someone else in?
-
I like sourcing players from the top 6 teams, especially Chelsea, but I mean the likes of Christensen, Batshuayi, Alonso etc. Second XIers, not unwanted ex-youth players! Is he better than Sims, Hesketh or Slattery that we've loaned out? Obviously someone at the club thinks so. All hail Jacob Maddox! Well not knowing what he's like, I can only trust Ralph's judgement on this! Some minor excitement on deadline day too?
-
Lawrence Shankland? Doesn't seem like he wants to leave... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51309102. Maybe in the summer...
-
If we were still in the relegation zone, then yes I'd be arguing the same and this window would have been a disaster (although realistically we may have seen some incomings if relegation was still likely) but we're pretty comfortable in 9th requiring a relatively small points total for at least another Prem season. If we don't sign quality in the summer though, that will be the time to kick off.
-
Although if he turns out to be crap, Sheffield United are lumbered with an even worse failure than Carrillo.
-
No one dared to do a Deadline Day thread then!?!?!?
-
This. Disappointing window but it’s barely weaker. The question is whether we’d have been out signing players had we still been in the relegation zone? The run of form seems to have changed the minds of the board as to our need for players. Maybe the £35 million the media quoted was the fund we had to fight off relegation but they’ve decided to keep it until Summer. Maybe wishful thinking, but we’ll find out come the summer.
-
IF we do win, it'll be a result heard around the world...
-
The summer budget will be higher when you include the £35 million we haven't spent this window, the £50 million we'll get for JWP and the £40 million we'll get for Ings. But the good news is that Long and Yoshida sign new contracts for 4 years apiece.
-
6-0 to us, Own Goals by Lallana, Ox-C, Van Dijk, a double by Lolvren, and an Ings screamer from 40 yards. MOTM Walker-Peters. If Carlsberg did perfect games...
-
Maybe Cedric has asked for the move to happen? Until Arsenal were interested it doesn't seem like we had any intention of letting him go this window...
-
Arsenal consider move for Southampton's Cedric Soares
SNSUN replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
He’s Also injured. This one will divide the fan base but I think taking the money is the better option. That’s a whole player knowing our budgets! Vote! As a player though he’s been OK, tough act to follow after Clyne and Chambers but Martina was often picked ahead of him which says something.
