So we sell Rickie Lambert for £4m and replace him with Shane ****ing Long for 3 times that. Can't believe how many people think this is a good signing! We are in for a long difficult season.

Gutted, a brilliant comedian and actor. How someone who has brought so much joy to people and added so much to the world can suffer from depression just shows what an insidious and dangerous disease it is. It could affect any of us. RIP

Mido - Had a few moments but overall was a bit of a flop for both Boro and Spurs. He was no loss to us.

I particularly remember a 2-0 defeat to Rochdale the first season in L1. That was pretty bad although I guess it doesn't count for this thread.

That was dreadful that game. Bloody freezing, horrible atmosphere and I swear we didn't string 2 passes in the whole game

I'm sure he knows full well that the fans of the club he spent 14 years at think he's a dickhead.

The voice of reason has spoken. Ok mods, you can close the forum now.

Walked past the store in West Quay this afternoon and had a look at it close up. Looks smart and most importantly, looks like a Saints kit. I like the diagonal striped detail on the red stripes. They've got it just about right, simple stripes, no messing around with fancy collars or anything and back to the normal badge. Only thing against it is that the material looks a little plasticky and cheap but that's just from looking at it; it might be better once its actually on your back. Not sure about the socks though..

I would so love to watch one of these scumbags have to rot in the reserves. Yeah we miss out on some cash, but it would start to shift the balance of power back to the clubs and away from the greedy players and agents that are destroying the game. Football needs to change, this is getting ridiculous.

Lallana completes move to LFC for a fee of around £25m
Joneth replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Gutting to hear that from a player I previously considered to represent everything that we'd done right in the last few years. No class at all. I'll quite enjoy watching his career disappear into obscurity if/when he fails to secure a regular first team spot. He won't get a good reception from many at St Mary's, but then I doubt he gives a stuff. -
Chambers v Shaw - am I deluding myself...
Joneth replied to Legod Second Coming's topic in The Saints
As good as Shaw is, there's one area he needs to improve on defensively; his positioning at the far post defending crosses. He was caught out a couple of times letting strikers get goal side and it happened again last night for England (albeit it was arguable more Smalling's error than Shaw's). He'll learn that as he progresses. Chambers looks like he could be a very useful player in several positions. He could well play centre-half but equally he could go further forward as he has great technique and pace. I can take losing Shaw if we keep Chambers. -
If you go into the Saints store right now there are 'shedloads of home shirts they can't shift even at £15' on the shelves.

Veho announced as new main club sponsor of Southampton Football Club
Joneth replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I have a Veho Muvi, its a good little cam. A fraction of the price of a GoPro and does an alright job. Why is everyone getting upset about a sponsor? If it had been Google or something - does that mean we'd be winning the league next year? Im all in favour of the club working together with its fans and now they are. -
Yep, vertical red/ dark red stripes and more white (perhaps white panel under the arms / side) would look good.

Stoke worked hard for that point in the second half, we didn't create anything to deserve any more. Stoke haven't changed under Mark Hughes, they're still a difficult, determined team of pretty limited talent that we will struggle to beat with the style of football we play. Excellent game in the first half, terrible game in the second.

Signed, all the best to Coventry, hope they get rid of those mugs.

My take on the situation: Katharina wants out, Cortese (+ A.N Others) wants in. Katharina wants £Xm for the club. Cortese is only willing to pay £Ym. If Cortese leaves then the club is destabilised and more difficult to sell and is therefore only worth £Zm on the open market. Katharina then has a choice between a guaranteed £Ym or a speculative £Zm. Cortese adds a lot of value to the club and he knows it.

Agree, just watched it back again and he knows what he's doing, its a class bit of play. Also he created the space for that goal by dropping back a touch. This pulled the fb towards him and the cb got caught between tracking Lallana and Lambert. The issue with Ramirez is that give him 10 opportunities and he will create something once. The problem is what happens the 9 times he loses the ball. Without a player like him we'll pass the ball around with 65% possession and draw 0-0 but with him we look much more vulnerable defensively but more likely to score ourselves.
-
He got an assist for the only goal of the game. What more do you want from him?
-
There's two points that Boruc has earned back since the Arsenal game. Ramirez might be half useful after all. Excellent win, abysmal game.

With the exception of the second halves of both Chelsea games, we have not been outclassed at any point this season. In terms of performance I don't think theres been a lot of difference between the first 10 and the second 10 games. I think we've been a little unlucky recently (or maybe lucky in the early part) and losing some key players hasn't helped but I don't think we're far off being a very comfortably decent side. We need better cover in defence but other than that I'm pretty happy with what we've got and don't really feel there's much for anyone to be blamed for, we're 9th!

People saying Fox wasn't that bad need to look at his positioning, he just seems to make the wrong decision every single time. Many of the mistakes that Hooiveld makes come as a result of being caught between covering his own area and the covering the space Fox has left. Don't get me wrong, Jos had an appalling game yesterday but Fox's total lack of defensive common sense left him badly exposed. Those two playing together are an utter calamity.
