  1. If you can't stand the heat, keep out of the Itchen? I'll get me coat.
  2. Au contraire, mon ami, au contraire. Going to the match with your son or daughter is one of life's great experiences, and a valuable lesson for the youngster. I once remember coming away from Old Trafford or some such ground after we had been right royally stuffed and a father was saying to his disconsolate kiddy 'that's what it's all about, son'. Besides, who's going to take you to the game when you're old and past it?
  3. What I find is that closing the north car park means that I have to walk further and so by the time that I get round to Britannia road I meet all the away fans coming out of the ground. If it's against human rights then why have I been kept behind at Fratton Park and Ninian Park for over an hour on more than one occasion?
  4. What crime might that be? How can you possibly prove what was going on in someone's head several years ago? Why are we even talking about it at this stage? Oh
  5. So was Churchill.
  6. Why don't you stand for election?
  7. There was a header before that which hit the keeper. We were unlucky not to score.
  8. Er, there aren't penalty shoot outs in regular league games. At that time Ivan Golac was one of my neighbours and he didn't have Sky so he came over and watched the game at my place.
  9. It's something to do with FIFA regualtions, and sh!t. 40,000 for the groups and 60,000 for the semi-finals.
  10. Wouldn't the ground need expanding first? 42,000 or something?
  11. Before they got rich there were a couple of wins at Chelsea. I remember a midweek 2-0 to Saints, MLT got at least one. I was aslo at Anfield for the 3-2 (funny, I always remember it as 3-1!) and there was a fellow sitting next to me with his girlfriend. She came from Southampton but he was originally from Liverpool and he was telling here how he used to go as a kid and stand on the Kop and what a great club it was and all that stuff. When our third went in he got up in disgust and dragged her out. As she went past she whispered to me "actually I was quite enjoying it".

  13. Because of violence by visiting supporters?
  14. The referee is the sole timekeeper. Having said that, he has a responsibility to be fair to both teams and I am sure that most observers would say that nearly 6 minutes of added time was excessive where there had been no significant injuries.

  16. The exact phrasing in the 'Laws of the Game' is 'handles the ball deliberately'.
  17. The answer's yes - why don't you give it a go? http://www.thefa.com/GetIntoFootball/Referee.aspx
  18. I though he had a point, TBH
  19. They all looked good decisions to me (like the 'handball' ). For most of them he was at least a couple of yards offside.
  20. I was walking past at the same time and I saw a couple of police piling in but I had a bus to catch so I just kept walking. 50 yards up the road I heard a few shouts of 'green army' and some drongo was mouthing off to the effect of 'how are the mighty fallen' (not his words) and how pitiful it was that we could only beat Yeovil 2-0. Most people were just giving him a strange look and walking on by. These days most of us are grateful for anything we can get.
  21. It's not really fair to judge him on today's showing. It looked to me like he was too eager to make an impact and maybe that's why he was offside so often. I'm sure that the coaching staff can curb his enthusiasm.
  22. I counted at least five Yeovil headers where they could have scored. I'm sure it's something that will be worked on. At least our defence must be quite intimidating when seen from ground level. We must give away less free-kicks, although it doesn't seem fair to criticise. The referee gave them a lot of free-kicks when all our players were doing was standing their ground.
  23. We sit in the middle of the Kingsland. Not one of us would have given the first and for the second I was the only one who saw the ball skid up off the grass and glance off the defender's arm. None of the players appealed, there may have been a half-hearted shout of 'handball' from someone in the crowd and even the assistant seemed to pause for a second before waving the flag about and sticking it across his chest. It was definitely his call and normally the referee's instructions are not to flag a penalty unless you are 150% sure. The referee can't ignore his lino without making him look silly. For me, it was definitely ball to hand but it wasn't my call to make, was it?
  24. I'll take the win, even if it was a bit embarrassing having the two penalties handed to us on a plate. I'd have been even happier if we'd scored a goal from our own efforts and the midfield didn't look quite right to me but the defence looked solid, except from the set pieces, and things are slowly turning our way. I sincerely hope that Papa is not going to spend the rest of the season offside. 2-0 to the referee.
