It’s the same the whole world over.

When Thatcher said “What we are doing now…” did she mean her government?

Something, but not enough in my view. Reactions like his set a terrible example to the grass roots game.

Let’s not exclude the possibility of international money ‘shuffling’

No contradiction at all. We have a playing style (allegedly). Someone or something concocts some figures that are suppose to relate to what actually happened. That does not mean that there is a correlation between what happened at the game and some numbers that were produced afterwards. As far as the betting world goes football is just a random number generator for them.
-
The alternative view up is that xG and xGA are rarely anywhere close to what actually happened and therefore must be flawed.
-
That's not what I'm saying at all, and well you know it. My criticism is of the obsession with irrelevant figures in the weird belief that they actually mean something. These are subsequent on, and not the cause of our playing style, if we actually have one at the moment.

It was desperation and it might have worked. He was the last turkey in the shop.

I was thinking of Comical Ali

That’s exactly where you are wrong. I don’t know if you saw my earlier posting about the source of these figures but if you had you would have seen that they bear no relationship to the way we play. Or any other team come to that. They are generated for the betting industry. Not for research.
-
Luckily we don’t have such a person.
-
Can you not see the irony in what you have posted? You do realise that these figures are produced primarily for the betting markets and bear no relationship to what actually happened?
-
Oops, I meant to quote you earlier but Revolution_Saint is right. It doesn’t follow that more possession should lead to more goal efforts. Just as probably the reverse. Is there such a thing as an xG table and for the love of God, why?
-
Yes, sorry. It should have somebody smirking instead of somebody revolting 🫢
-
What is it with you people and so-called statistics? xG is an abomination and bears no relation to what actually happens. There is only one table that matters and that is the league table.
-
You should stop reading stats. They are meaningless tripe.
-
Now you’re being ridiculous. Have a look at it again and admit you’re wrong.
-
Yes I am. Our mess is beyond the capabilities of any one player standing thirty yards behind them. What’s he supposed to do? Run around pulling them into shape? You can blame him for many things but an incohesive team is not one of them. Nor should it be.
-
So would I, but even he had his moments. That free kick at the Wembley final comes to mind.

Check with the manufacturers for tyre pressures. The wear patterns on the existing tyres will give you an indication of the correct pressure. Even wear all across is good. More wear in the centre is too hard. More wear on the edges is too low. I would never buy a car without a spare wheel. I had two BMW 5 series estates which were great but when I went to buy another they didn’t and couldn’t come with a spare wheel. I asked how far I could go on a flat run flat. “50 miles sir” Towing a caravan? “About 25 miles sir” So I’m on a French motorway and I have a flat and I can’t even get to the next exit? No thanks. Add to that in France I believe you can’t even get these run flat tyres and have to wait to get them imported. And also in France both tyres on the same axle have to have a similar amount of tread. So I bought a Mercedes E350 estate which came with a skinny spare and bought a full spec wheel and tyre that I could put in the boot. I have also seen many cases of BMW wheels where the rim has become completely detached after a hard impact on the road. They are not suitable for British roads.

So why aren’t they? The cost is less than minimal.
-
There you go with your meaningless statistics again. And your strong implication was that he was responsible at least in part for our defensive mess, otherwise why bring it up?
-
Why all the criticism? Just feel the love

As Danny Blanchflower said, "...The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

And I think you are overstating the importance of the goalkeeper in organising the defence. Our organisation has been woeful no matter who is in goal and if anything McCarthy was worse. The defence and midfield should be cohesive and organised no matter who is behind them. True, a more experienced goalkeeper can help but only a little. You may not like Bazunu and I don't particularly care either way but to start blaming him for all our defensive mess is stretching your case too far. I repeat. last Saturday it would not have made any difference to the thrashing whoever we had in goal.
