  1. I’ll contact him over the weekend, he might have a student card. I’ve still got to get the ticket reassigned though. What proportion of supporters are going to have ID anyway?
  2. I’d like to know too. My other ticket is historically in my wife’s name but I usually take my grandson. For this match I paid the full price for the second ticket but the website wouldn’t let me allocate it against my grandson’s supporter number. I think I’ll have to give them a call. He’s 18 but I don’t even know if he has photo ID. How many people do?
  3. Napoleon would have had something to say about that.
  4. Better lock down now then since we’re going to have to lock down anyway. If you keep looking hard enough you’ll eventually find something. If this variant is more transmissible and less deadly then shouldn’t we encourage it? Besides, this year of lockdown has done more than enough damage already. Another one would result in riots and bricks through windows.
  5. I think you’ll find it was her choice
  6. NO You don't really need a reason why, surely?
  7. Er... actually we don't.
  8. Obstruction isn’t a specific offence any more but if you’re in an offside position when you do it it will be given as offside. The threshold for an offside obstruction is lower than that for a foul in normal play.
  9. Yes, that was a big and unpleasant surprise for me. There were a few examples back at the beginning of the season but since then nothing. The problem with insisting of strict adherence to the laws is that even though it’s legally correct it unbalances the game to the extent that forwards would rather win a penalty than try to score a goal. It’s also legal for the penalty taker to hesitate or make a jump in his run up but this temps the keeper to make a move and could cause a retake. I think that penalties have become too common and are worth too much. If they’re going to hand them out like sweets then I propose drastic measures such as downgrading them to an ordinary free kick or at least moving the spot back to the edge of the D.
  10. It’s not worth arguing over but theoretical it’s possible for an offside player to block the movement of an opposition player even though the ball is long way away. I can’t ever remember it happening.
  11. Not necessarily true. For example a player in an offside position might be standing right in front of the goalkeeper with the ball twenty yards away. Not relevant to Benteke’s goal though. Not offside in any way.
  12. Yes, sadly they pass away. My mother was born in 1919 and she is still going and her former neighbour is now 108 so there are a very few witnesses still around. I was born in 1949 and the Second World War was very recent. Lots of bombsites around, spent bullets all over our local mudflats and, if you knew where to look and when, flakes of cordite washing up in the surf. There was a shipwreck off Felixstowe of a collier that had hit a mine and a crashed Liberator in the marshes near Parkeston Quay. My father, born in 1918, had two brothers who had fought in WW1. What makes me feel old? Indoor toilets Bathrooms Refrigerators Washing machines Central heating Television, black and white Television, colour Plastic footballs Cars Cars that start in any weather Bicycle tyres that you don’t have to pump up every day. Realising that we won the World Cup after I first met my wife. Celebrating our Golden Wedding last year. When your eight year old grandson asks you what calculus is.
  13. Still a classic. I must get mine out occasionally and give it a spin.
  14. There was an American comedian who used to say, ”Everybody says they know where they were when Kennedy got shot. I know where I was. I was hanging out of a window in a book depository with a rifle in my hand.”
  15. He’s on loan from Tottenham at 1899 Hoffenheim. He joined Spurs in 2019 for a mere £25m. Might be worth a punt though at the right price or even on loan.
  16. Next Tuesday 18th at 18:00 I will probably have to collect my grandson straight from sixth form college. He is in the middle of exams of some sort,
  17. I am clearing out my children's books and came across Chicken Licken. Spoiler Alert! He gets hit on the head by a falling acorn and runs around shouting "The sky is falling in" until he and his friends get eaten by a fox.
  18. We are in row EE in the Itchen whcih is some way from our normal seats in central Kingsland but hey ho!
  19. I have probably seen and heard all the evidence more times than you have. Both bullets hit him from behind and on the same trajectory. I don't see what the other subjects you have raised have to do with this assassination. But there really was a Suez crisis and the Twin Towers really did collapse. Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem. - Occam's razor.
  20. Eight goals so far with three games to go. That seems pretty close to ten.
  21. No he wasn't. There were probably three shots two of which struck the President. One missed altogether and I have seen an analysis that seems to show that the car went out of view behind a traffic sign at the probable time of this shot. The sign was replaced and scrapped not long after but there is some photographic eveidence that suggests there was a small hole in it at about the place you would expect. The first shot to hit him went through his neck and hit Governor Connally in the chest, wrist and thigh and was later found on the hospital gurney. The second fatal shot hit him in the back of the head and the exit wound exploded his brains out in front of him.
  22. Historically the best goal scorers have operated in pairs - Shearer and Sutton come to mind.
  23. If we were to think of him as an attacking midfielder who pops up with a few goals does that change our appreciation of him?
  24. ? Not that it matters but it is off the B556 Bell Lane. Take the southbound exit of junction 22.
  25. On the other hand it will free up his wages which I don’t suppose will have been cheap.
