I'm digressing a bit (as usual) but the ferry company's income used to be 1/3 fares 1/3 freight and 1/3 duty free. With the current political set-up of predominantly pro-EU MPs I cannot see us ever settling for less than Single Market access and all that entails including free movement of labour.

I'm looking forward to it. But who do I support? Those plucky loyal Northern Irish or the traitorous secessionist Welsh? Tough choice.

That will be debated for some time. There were some comments about the timing coming at a bad time for those in education what with exams and stuff. Personally I'm all for compulsory voting. Shall we take a vote on it?

Yes it is an awful place to live. Overcrowded (You should know about that but at least you can get out the country easily). Poor-quality infrastructure, high housing costs, high taxation, high cost of living. Ireland on the other hand... France even.

Give it a chance, we haven't actually left the EU yet. It's at this stage that I point out that constitutionally and legally this referendum was only 'advisory' although politically it is extremely difficult for the politicians to ignore. Be prepared for a few months of international wibbling and wobbling and hedging and fudging also involving Scotland and Ireland. Cameron's decision to not resign until October has bought some holding time before actually invoking Article 50 and there will be big upheavals in British politics before that occurs, if it ever does. We could very well end up with some form of 'associate membership' on offer and another referendum or, more likely, a general election based on a call for a new mandate.

The situation is not entirely clear apparently. Scotland hasn't seceded from a member state, it's already a part of one. There are no explicit rules to cover it.

And how many immigrants have been kicked out? How much more money is there today for the NHS? Let's wait a couple of years before we start smugly gloating.

I don't think you get it. For a change of this magnitude it was almost 50/50. Certainly less than half the electorate voted to leave, and much less of the population. This wasn't an election.

According to that logic you want them to undergo a couple of decades of hardship just like us. I also went through those years and I wanted my grandchildren to enjoy a prosperous and liberal future life. You've taken that away from them.

Millions of people are deeply unhappy with the result and have no way of changing it. It's not like a general election when the result can be changed in a few years. What form of democracy is that?

They can but there is a cost involved. Some just take the gamble and pay at the time, others buy all the money up front.

I see that you've cut off the bit on the left hand side. The bit where it crashed. The FTSE 250 is more of an indication of what's happening since the bigger companies are multi-nationals who are less influenced by smaller countries. Anyway. let's see where we are in 18 months time before we reach any conclusions.

I would call that lose/lose but I am quickly searching for my Scottish ancestors along with the Irish och ay the noo, to be sure, to be sure.
