Isn't Mayotte also a département and a part of the EU?
-
Er... I think that's the whole point?

I feel for you. I had made a couple of short visits to Ireland but last September my wife and I made a grand tour going clockwise around the coast from Rosslare to Larne and we were very smitten by both countries. What really impressed me was the total absence of any border between the two states and how easy it was to move between them. I can fully understand why you and Buctootim would consider getting an Irish passport and I only wish I could have the same opportunity. I wish you and your folk all the best for the future and I hope that all works out ok for you.

Queen Victoria?

Inevitable, wasn't it. If France or Germany get their acts together and offer a few hints about fast-tracking their application to join then They'll be off like a shot.

Ooh, this is fun, let's try some other quotes: "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven." "Now came still evening on, and twilight gray Had in her sober livery all things clad;" "Came not all hell broke loose?" Or even Luke 23:34 ? "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do"

That graphic bears a striking resemblance to Farage.

No improvement in a year is very poor and it's the longer term movement in the £/$ that you need to look at. Until late 2014 it was around $1.60 and has fallen steadily to around $1.40 which is beginning to threaten our status as the world's fifth largest economy. Short-term trends can be overlooked but it's where it will be 18 months from now that is questionable. Much depends on the forthcoming negotiations but any uncertainty is unhelpful.

And the end of the booze trip to fill up your car for a wedding, funeral, bar mitzvah or something. That might have got a few more votes.
-
I suspect that you may be underestimating the significance of this complete farce.

I agree with your appraisal apart from the bit about Farage. He has fought strongly to create this mess and is now backing away as fast as he can. If you really believe in conspiracies then you might argue that Corbyn was a plant designed to bring about an early general election at which the Labour Party would enjoy some success.

That all depends on what kind of situation we end up with. If we stay in the Single Market with the associated free movement of labour then employment conditions would be unchanged.

Fixed it for you

And the Daily Mail, don't forget them. And yes, the Great British Public really do believe all that they read.

But it can leave you permanently crippled with wounds that will never heal.
-
The trouble is that it would take a generation to recover from all the mess.

Cameron? Oops, wrong thread -
That was inevitable. He will always be remembered as the one who took Britain out of Europe and very possibly broke up the Union. Who are we going to be stuck with now?
-
We just have.

They'll all need work permits.

Everyone in Europe just got 10% more expensive.

We've voted to leave Europe so sorry, we shan't be going -
Oh FFS. What kind of people do we live amongst? 52% is no kind of mandate for such a disastrous constitutional change. Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit. And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

Isn't it always dull in Winchester?

But do they have two good legs between them? -
Well gentlemen, It has been an interesting and stimulating few weeks (months?). I think I shall take a break from the debate for this evening. An early night beckons methinks, and that way I shall know the result as soon as I wake up. It does save all those tedious hours of waiting up through the small hours. Whatever the outcome I rather suspect that the debates and arguments will rumble on for a long while yet. My advice is to have a few beers and watch something else. Shame there's no footy tonight.
