  1. Actually the whole consideration of the value of wealth is fundamental to the story of Robinson Crusoe. We used to have the largest economy in the world but a lot has declined since then. With the recent fall in the value of sterling I doubt that were even fifth today. It's not that long ago that we were fourth, just above Italy. But all this is history, it's where we shall be in the future that matters.
  2. Not much use if your choices are limited. Robinson Crusoe had absolute sovereignty over all he surveyed and a fat lot of good it did him.
  3. That's nothing, I'm nearly 67 and I can never remember Everton winning anything. If you asked me for a list of the great English clubs then their name would not spring to mind.
  4. The whole politic is determined by the power of the veto. To get any new deal through you would need to get positive agreement amongst all 27 countries so even if some other countries are in favour it only needs a couple of dissenters to scupper the deal.
  5. Over 85% of the cars made at Burnaston are exported to Europe. Do you think that would continue?
  6. There is no logic whatsoever in that conclusion.
  7. Very true. Perhaps they should pay back all those that they have received.
  8. Really? Can we have a frinstance?
  9. Likes a high press but tends to fade after 80 minutes.
  10. I was just being silly, I wasn't serious. In fact I rarely am
  11. So his contract included a release clause if Everton came calling but not Barcelona? Okay.....
  12. I assume you mean 'wouldn't be unhappy with a top ten finish'? I agree with you, just as long as we finish above Tottenham, Liverpool and of course Everton.
  13. Unless the Sun comes in with an offer that matches his ambition.
  14. Yes, good luck to him. I guess him leaving makes room for somebody else.
  15. Ouch, that's nasty. What do they call it, puce? (Pronounced puke)
  16. We won't accept a cheque?
  17. I lasted 2. For some silly reason I though it would be Portuguese or something. How long do you think Rongone will be able to put up with it?
  18. The commissioners are chosen by the member governments. Our ministers are chosen by our Prime Minister, whom we also do not choose. We have no say in who is the leader of any of our political parties and the only choice that we have once in 5 years is to tick a box alongside the name of somebody who represents the party that we dislike the least. We have no say in the choice of any of these people. If there is a vote for Brexit then cameron's position would be seriously weakened and his judgement in ever calling a referendum would be severely criticised. We could do without all this unnecessary diversion, it is preventing the government from performing its duties and it is costing the economy an enormous amount of suffering. I would think that the loss of revenue so far would more than pay for next year's EU contribution.
  19. I think Cameron is finished whatever the outcome. I can't think of any replacement who isn't scary.
  20. Phew, that's a relief. Anything as long as he's not sleeping with the fishes.
  21. #wemelton Pity. If you think that a great work of art is something that stimulates public discussion and encourages the viewer to see the world from a different point of view then perhaps it should have been saved as a reminder of what can happen when there is a failure of supervision and an artist is allowed to let his imagination roam. I always thought that if it was melted down they could have produced a limited edition range of desktop miniature statues.
