The Southampton Pirelli site was ruled out because it is reclaimed land. I don't know the significance of this, maybe it would have made a large structure expensive because of the need for extensive foundations. That area is low-rise at the moment and a West Quay is closer to the original land. I never did find out why.

Wanyama Transfer Rumours - Summer 2015 Edition
Whitey Grandad replied to brett24's topic in The Saints
At a referees meeting when Strachan was in charge he came to talk to us and I asked him for his views on the transfer window. He said that he was in favour because it meant that he had to concentrate on coaching the players. If one of them came to him and said that he thought he was worth more than he was getting then he could be told 'fine, get on with your job and we'll see who comes in for you during the next window'. -
Yes, that would have been a problem and one of the concerns in Eastleigh has always been to maintain a separate identity from Southampton and to vigorously maintain the physical separation of the two with some semblance of countryside or green space. The fear was that once one block of this space was filled with developments then the rest would be filled in very quickly. Let's not forget that it wouldn't have been just a stadium, the proposals included a host of retail and leisure facilities. At that time I had regular contacts with Eastleigh Borough Council and we often talked about these proposals.

CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal

We have just over three days to wait. I'll wait until Tuesday evening before wetting the bed. -
Me too. I have a nostalgic affection for the older grounds that nestle amongst rows of terraced houses.

It might seem counter-intuitive but one of the problems with the Stoneham site was that it was right on a motorway junction and would have caused big problems at the end of games. St Mary's is fine and it only needs the rest of the area to receive several billions in investment to transform that part of the city, which I doubt that I shall live to see. The club could have had the Pirelli site in Eastleigh if they had waited but I expect there would have been some local opposition, there always is.

Nothing wrong with the occasional long ball, it keeps the opposing defenders on their toes, but doing it all game long is tediously ineffective.

I've just got back home after one two-hour flight, seven different trains and a total of eight miles of walking. I've met a whole mixture of different Saints fans, many of then based in Denmark, and who had travelled to the game in all sorts of different ways. It was great to meet you all and I hope to do something like it again one day. Somehow I doubt that MK Dons will be quite the same.

These are simplistic calculations. There are lots of other fees involved and we'd only get the true figures by examining the accounts. Don't believe everything that you read in the papers.

Isn't the big TV money next season? Or was it next season last season?

League stages are separate from knock - out. Whichever, we don't need him for Europe any more.

You have to spend if you want to score, even in a brothel (so I believe ).

Regression to the mean, do you mean? Perhaps the loss of Paul Mitchell was more significant.

I would think that going out of Europe would mean less need for new players. -

After tonight's performance this has to be a strong suspicion. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -

Yes, we tried to find out how many tickets couldn't be collected but no joy. It was open seating there tonight so there may have been some bunching. I was slightly to the left of the Saints fans as seen from the tele, behind the left - hand post of the goal. Unfortunately I could see the whole match clearly. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Thanks for the recognition. I'm glad I came to this one as I had a feeling that this might happen and I also have a feeling that it's going to be a long while to the next. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Just got back into the hotel. This is what I feared after last week's result so I'm not disappointed with the outcome but some sort of fight and spirit would have been welcome. It was very clear which team wanted it more. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -
