  1. You can use whatever sounds the more natural. None may originally have been an abbreviation of no-one but it is a separate word in its own right.
  2. Either is ok. With words such a 'Manchester United' or 'the government' then either the plural or the singular is used. Common usage is what counts here, I prefer using what sounds right. 'Manchester United is the biggest club in the world.' 'Manchester United are about to sign...' Etcetera.
  3. Good point. Ed is the best weapon the Conservatives have.
  4. No, they're not, but they have the best view of anybody, are a lot closer and have a stereoscopic view. There are a lot of other clues as to what goes on, things that the players have said, where their eyes are looking, that sort of thing. That link doesn't work on my iPad, I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks.
  5. I find it very depressing that anybody she had think that TV gives you a better view of the game than being out in the middle of the pitch a few yards away from the action with a full view of every little action that a player might take and with a history of the way that they have behaved previously in the game. I really can't see the problem with the present system and r the need to change anything. The thing that does need changing is the education and attitude of the media.
  6. Not me, I've seen too many of 'em. I might even go to bed early. That way you get the result quicker because it's there as soon as you open your eyes.
  7. The trigger was in the U.S. Financial markets but other economies were built on weak foundations. I think you'll find that we have been consistent over Labour's role in it. They overspent and left us exposed to external factors.
  8. Funny place to have a nipple.
  9. I think Batter's reply was lost in the great corrupt database scandal. He found his special tool so panic over.
  10. Yep. The whole concept of bonuses is disgusting and disgraceful.
  11. Which, kicked the ball up in the air or had a go at Maya? I miss the old-fashioned indirect free-kick in the penalty area. Always good for a laugh
  12. The root of the problem was in the US as is the case with many things and goes back to Clinton's efforts to give loans to the poor so that they could buy property. The collapse of Fannie Mac and Freddy Mae set in motion a chain of events that coupled with peculiarities in the American banking system started the dominos falling. http://spectator.org/articles/42211/true-origins-financial-crisis
  13. You can't let that influence anything, it's not the fault of the game. These vast sums are paid for the game as it is. One of its big attractions is the continuous ebb and flow and any extra stoppages will spoil this.
  14. Not, that one was pretty obvious. You can't kick a ball at head height and expect to get away with it. Dangerous play all day long. As The9 says earlier, it used to be indirect, now it's direct. If you want to blame anybody have a go at Maya for heading the ball straight up in the air in the penalty area.
  15. It was a lot more complicated than that but people will believe what they want to believe.
  16. Very true, you should hear me speak
  17. More UTC than GMT these days. The abbreviation comes from the French Temps Universel Coordonné and is a compromise between TUC and CUT.
  18. A demonstration would probably be clearer
  19. Hitler was a good orator. That didn't mean that he was right. (Can we apply Godwin's Law now? )
  20. Of course they make mistakes but I maintain that they're not as 'clear' as many make out. I presume you meant to say 'not neutral' there?
  21. Let's have Suarez and Neymar as well whilst we're at it.
  22. That's despicable, trying to make political capital out of people's deaths.
  23. It happened during the war, but we don't want another one of those.
  24. Indeed. Who can forget this man?
  25. Don't clubs in Europe skip the early rounds anyway?
